Re: Detroit Tigers, Volume 9: The Carlos Guillen edition

Gotta do no worse than a split the rest of this weekend.

Re: Detroit Tigers, Volume 9: The Carlos Guillen edition

Zimmerman was dreadful in his big league return. I swear, the Tigers have never won a game I've been able to watch on MLB Network.

Re: Detroit Tigers, Volume 9: The Carlos Guillen edition

Kinsler leads off with a bomb, but maaaan, the Tigers blew their opportunity this weekend. This weekend's results were the worst possible scenario. 7 back of Cleveland and 2 back of Baltimore now. Anything less than 5-2 this week, and we're probably dead.

Last two games against Baltimore aside, they've played pretty well, but have gotten zero help to make up ground.

The good news is that 7 of the next 10 are against Minnesota, so there's definitely opportunity to go on a run, even if they have to mix Pelfrey back into the rotation.

That's nice that we're up against Minnesota, but going 8-2 in that span is probably only going to make up no more than 2 games in the standings to Cleveland. As for the WC, we're 2 back in the loss column, and we've got company, as the Yankees have shown up. It's getting late, and quickly. There's only 20 games left.

Down 2-1 and Upton left the game. They might be dead by the end of this series.

Re: Detroit Tigers, Volume 9: The Carlos Guillen edition

Tigers score two runs by a total of about two inches. And Iglesias might have been safe by three inches.

4-2 win, and they gain a game on Baltimore, the Yankees, and potentially Cleveland.

I don't think they can catch Cleveland at this point. It would take an incredible run, and I don't think the Tigers have the depth to do that at this point. The wild card still seems very doable though. A four-way race with Toronto Baltimore, Detroit, and New York for two spots. There's a lot games between the other three and they've got tougher schedules.

Re: Detroit Tigers, Volume 9: The Carlos Guillen edition

We're 6 back of Cleveland with 19 to go. That mandates absolutely no worse than 5-2 against them the rest of the way, and even then we'd need some help. 6-1 and we might screw around and win the Central. If we do any worse than 4-3, we're in trouble on all fronts. If Baltimore plays 10-9 the rest of the way, we need 11-8 to catch them. If we get our asses kicked by Cleveland again, our margin for error for ANY playoff spot is next to zero.

We've still got a series with KC left, too. 7 with Cleveland, 6 with Minnesota, and 3 each with KC and Atlanta, of all teams.

EDIT: The more I look at this, I think we may need a 12-7 finish to get in. Boston, Toronto, Baltimore and NY are going to eat each other over the next two weeks, so for the most part, they're going to come in around .500 the rest of the way. SOMEBODY in that group is going to win at least 10 more games. We're not going to be able to back our way into this one.

And we might be right back in the same place we started with last night.

Re: Detroit Tigers, Volume 9: The Carlos Guillen edition

Boyd's got nothing. And not much of that, either.

Re: Detroit Tigers, Volume 9: The Carlos Guillen edition

It's 7-1 now. Someone else can drive. I'm done for the night.

Butt ****er pitching for Detroit.

*** happened to Sanchez? He cruised through the order the first time around, I change the channel for a minute, and now they're down 5-2.

Interesting way to win a game 9-6. Baltimore won and Cleveland will win, but Toronto and New York lost.
