All right. Greene has given up 4 bombs in and inning and change. By the grace of God, they've all been solo shots. This is ridiculous.

PUJOLS!!!

7-1 Angels, bottom 2.

Five bombs in 1.2 innings. **** it. I'm using the homer light on the other team.

Wasn't that the first time ever in the history of MLB that a pitcher had given up 5 homers without recording 6 outs??

Re: Detroit Tigers, Volume 8: The Doc Cramer edition

I wouldn't mind moving to the NL if it meant only playing in Anaheim once every six years.

Re: Detroit Tigers, Volume 8: The Doc Cramer edition

Daniel Fields has been called up. Rajai Davis is out for the birth of his daughter.

Re: Detroit Tigers, Volume 8: The Doc Cramer edition

Interesting. I thought we'd send a pitcher down to make room for Simon.

For those keeping score:

Daniel Fields called up to replace Rajai Davis, who is on paternity leave for a couple days
Alfredo Simon returns from Venezuela, from bereavement leave, as his father passed
To make room for Simon, Hernan Perez was placed on waivers, as he was out of minor league options. Perez was claimed by the Brewers.
Buck Farmer sent to Toledo.
Josh Wilson has been recalled from Toledo to replace Perez.

I'm not overly concerned about losing Perez. He was expendable. A 26 year old utility player who did not fit into long-term plans at either 2B or SS, especially with Dixon Machado hitting better in Toledo. By the time there would have been room for Perez, he was going to be 28-29. At 28-29, you're not a prospect.

Also, Verlander will pitch on Saturday in Toledo in a 2nd rehab start. My guess is that after this start, he goes again on Thursday. For the Tigers.

Re: Detroit Tigers, Volume 8: The Doc Cramer edition

So apparently we called up Fields just to watch. *shrug*

Re: Detroit Tigers, Volume 8: The Doc Cramer edition

I think Perez suffered because he sat most of the time. I think milwaukee will play him, and he will be not great, but serviceable. It would be good if Kinsler could get a hit here and there.
What a travesty the fielding has been in this game. wow.

Well, Nesbitt just dropped a bomb on the whole thing.

Re: Detroit Tigers, Volume 8: The Doc Cramer edition

To say the least. I bet if I got 34 plate appearances against MLB pitching, I could at least manage three hits.

Even if you couldn't hit water without falling out of a boat, we still wouldn't be much worse off.

Re: Detroit Tigers, Volume 8: The Doc Cramer edition

Yup. This team looks dead. With minimal help on the horizon. Victor's not right, and he's not going to be right for a while. There isn't a bat in the farm system that's busting down the door to get to Detroit. Verlander is likely to be back late next week, but that's not going to help this lineup score more than 2 runs a night.

After tonight's debacle, we're 1/3 of the way through the season. We're 28-26. That doesn't cut it. I think Brad Ausmus is in some trouble here. Now, I've made it known that I'm no fan of Brad Ausmus, but if we fire him, then what?

Re: Detroit Tigers, Volume 8: The Doc Cramer edition

Oakland is 11 games under .500 right now. And they've paddled our asses over the last week. Take away the sweep Anaheim just gave us, and they're under .500 as well. The White Sox might do the same coming up this weekend.

We're in big trouble here.

Gardenhire?

I wanted Brad, he was 100% my first choice and I was happy when we got him. I figured being a catcher, and only a couple years removed from the game he'd be very in tune and would really just be a younger version of Leyland. Unfortunately, he doesn't seem to have that same "IDGAF, we're doing it my way" attitude, built up over years of smoking and Clark Bars.

What I don't understand is two years in a row this team has jumped out of the gate on pace for all-time greatness. I feel something like that can't be random. It's like he builds up all of Spring Training crafting the perfect strategy, which apparently works, but as soon as something changes, like injuries or slumps, it screws up his formula he doesn't know what to do.

Re: Detroit Tigers, Volume 8: The Doc Cramer edition

Here's the problem: What's Plan B if Gardenhire says no?

Here's problem #2: Say we get Gardenhire. Castellanos looks so lost he couldn't find first base without a seeing eye dog and a GPS. Kinsler has been non-existent for the better part of two weeks. Gose and Iggy have cooled off, looking like reversions to the mean. Only McCann, Miggy, and Cespedes have been what we have expected, more or less. What do you do here?

And we haven't even started to address the rotation, where Greene and Sanchez have been getting shelled as of late, with Simon also due to cool off in the next month or so.
