Re: Detroit Tigers, Volume 7: The George Kell edition

Kinsler hits a go-ahead double and makes a binoculars hand-motion at Chris Sale in the dugout.

6-1 final.

Sale was cruising until he melted down over Martinez. Tigers tacked on three insurance runs in the bottom of the eighth inning, which most importantly, was enough to sit Nathan back down in the bullpen.

Re: Detroit Tigers, Volume 7: The George Kell edition

In the playoffs if Seattle loses tonight.

With the way the wildcard is now, I don't really consider making the play-in "in the playoffs". You basically just earn a coin flip for the right to go to the playoffs. Just win the division.

(Yes, I'm still scarred from being at Game 163.)

Re: Detroit Tigers, Volume 7: The George Kell edition

Sale dotted Martinez because he thought someone had binoculars relaying signs to him.

Ausmus with the reaction: "Did we have someone at US Cellular Field when Victor hit a homer off of him there?"

Yeah, weird sequence in Martinez's prior at-bat. On at least one of the pitches, the catcher sent up way inside and then at the very, very last second, moved way outside for the pitch. Sale ended up striking Martinez out to end the inning and as he came off the mound, he sarcastically tipped his hat towards center field twice. Next time Martinez came up, Sale drilled him.

Like I said, it worked out great for the Tigers. They couldn't touch Sale, and it had all the makings of a 1-0 loss. Instead, he fired up the Tigers, and was out of the game by the sixth inning.

So, next years promotional giveaway at Comerica Park for first Chicago White Sox series: Chris Sale binoculars for the first 10,000.

And, how many fans will be attending with their binoculars next time Sale pitches at Comerica?

Re: Detroit Tigers, Volume 7: The George Kell edition

Binocular Night at Comerica Park is a perfect idea for the first home game against Harrelson's Heroes.

VICTOR!!

2-0, 2 out.

No binoculars necessary. And someone got some free tires.

In his pregame meeting in Chicago before the White Sox face the Royals, Ventura reacted strongly to Tigers manager Brad Ausmus characterizing Sale’s actions as “weak.”

“He’s not weak and we don’t do weak things,” Ventura told reporters. “And Chris doesn’t do weak things. He should probably worry about his own team and invest a little more on his own team. Don’t worry about my team.”

Yeah, Mr. Ventura. Ausmus does need to worry about his own team. His team is playing past this Sunday. Who do the White Sox play...oh...never mind. Now go say hi to Nolan Ryan for the rest of us.

79 through 4 for Max. Headed for a short night for him.

MIGGY!!

3-0, bottom 4.

You know the rest...

Re: Detroit Tigers, Volume 7: The George Kell edition

101 pitches thru 5 for Scherzer. That's enough.

Re: Detroit Tigers, Volume 7: The George Kell edition

And Max immediately gives up a single to open the 6th. I don't like this one bit.

Re: Detroit Tigers, Volume 7: The George Kell edition

I know I'll regret saying this, but I'm starting to feel kind of confident in Soria.

Re: Detroit Tigers, Volume 7: The George Kell edition

I think Kinsler just got picked off 1st to end the inning.

Aw, ****. Fat Joe West is working this series?

4-2 final.

That is insensitive. Please refer to him as "circumferentially challenged". Wait, Joe West is still kicking?

I may be off-base (:D), but I'm not sure why Sale didn't get tossed after his binoculars impression, after he'd beaned Martinez. Couldn't one of the ump crew put 2 and 2 together and figure out this was intentional? Unless of course he got a pass because it was retaliation for the Unwritten Code being violated.
