Detroit Tigers, Volume 6: The Al Kaline edition

Re: Detroit Tigers, Volume 6: The Al Kaline edition

Certainly not the Tigers' fault, but it's just bizarre to me that there's a WS caliber team that needs a SS and Stephen Drew is working out at the Boras complex. Don't know whether this is a case of a player committing suicide or an agent who can't admit defeat.

With all of the injuries the Tigers have right now even before Opening Day, can we really say that the Tigers are WS contenders right now???

Speaking of Boras, Scherzer turns down Tigers' offer which would have listed him among the top pitchers in the game. The odds of him repeating that season are.. so yeah.

Re: Detroit Tigers, Volume 6: The Al Kaline edition

I've been down in florida watching the tigers as I usually do this time of year. Saw Verlander, Lobstein and today Smiley. none were great, Lobstein was terrible. Jacob Turner was impressive for the Marlins.
Castillanos, don't put him on your fantasy team.
Hernan Perez was pretty good. They had a large number of non roster invitees that they are running thru to fill the holes. Not really one guy with the inside track. Chamberlain pitched today,.... good velocity but his fast ball has no life. Best tigers pitcher I saw was Reed.
Apparently they play quite a few early series vs the NL in April and miggy will be playing third on those days. he played third well today. Don Kelly got hurt in the first inning and was taken out. The guy they traded for was in the line up today, he played good in the field and hit the ball hard several times, but right at people. Albuquerque pitched today as well and did a good job.
When was the last time you saw danny worth hit a home run? not only that, but off a guy throwing 98 mph.

generally a lot of fun. I had never been to Dunedin before and the park is real nice. not swanky but nice. At the braves was terrible. A hamburger was 11 dollars, and most of the seats are in the sun the whole game.

Re: Detroit Tigers, Volume 6: The Al Kaline edition

Tigers announced today they have traded Lombardozzi to Baltimore for a 36 yr old shortstop named Gonzales. might be an upgrade. Gonzales known as a good fielder. All of these guys are pretty much clones anyway.

Re: Detroit Tigers, Volume 6: The Al Kaline edition

I just hope one of them hits more than .225.

Danny Worth's not long for this organization. The writing's clearly on the wall.

Good fielder. Hurt all the **** time.

Re: Detroit Tigers, Volume 6: The Al Kaline edition

He'll fit in perfectly, given this spring.

Tyler Collins has probably made this team. Perez and Worth have been sent down. It's become quite obvious that they don't think Worth can play at the major league level.

Collins was pretty good and has power. You have to remember that Iglasias was good field and not much hit.

I was pretty unimpressed with Chamberlain and I think he will get lit up. Putkonen .... same.

Re: Detroit Tigers, Volume 6: The Al Kaline edition

The more I look at our SS acquisitions, the more I'd rather have Danny Worth. Gonzalez could very well be done, and Romine's career OBP is higher than his SLG. I'm not making that up. He has 3 XBH (all doubles) in 152 career at bats. He makes Neifi Perez look like George Freaking Brett. Danny Worth can't possibly be that bad.

Miggy close to a long-term extension.

Reports are a 6/$180 extension.

Jon Heyman says it's done.

Meh. A 30 y/o isn't signing a 6-7 year deal. The other option is some other team offers the same.

Re: Detroit Tigers, Volume 6: The Al Kaline edition

I look at it this way. You can offer 8/$248 extension now to get to 10/$292, or you can **** around for two seasons and have to pony up 10/$325-350. Or walk away with a 1st round draft pick and your junk in your hand. Your choice. You go pay for the best hitter in the game, or someone else certainly will.

The going rate now for top-rate hitters is a 10 year deal. A-Rod somehow managed to get two of those. Pujols got one two years ago, and so did Cano this last offseason.
