Detroit Tigers, Volume 6: The Al Kaline edition

Re: Detroit Tigers, Volume 6: The Al Kaline edition

It's going to be a short postseason if we continue to get bullpen help like last night. Pathetic, and I'm not blaming Benoit.

I may even level part of this on Leyland for not leaving JV in another batter or two and extending Al-Al. Neither Smyly or Veras had it, at least he yanked themjust in time.

The Twins B lineup, as Price was mentioning on the radio, should not have been in this game.

Of course, with Cabrera banged up and LF production spotty, Oakland (or Boston) pitching is licking their chops, let alone Twins pitching.:mad:

Re: Detroit Tigers, Volume 6: The Al Kaline edition

By the time he went to Benoit, the save was all but blown. I'm amazed we got through the 8th with the lead in the first place. I'm glad I didn't see the end, even though I had a feeling I knew the end result.

If it wasn't for the back of the upper deck wall, that ball that Dozier hit would still be orbitting St.Paul.

Re: Detroit Tigers, Volume 6: The Al Kaline edition

The Tigers are going to skip Verlander on Sunday so he's rested for the playoffs, right?

Re: Detroit Tigers, Volume 6: The Al Kaline edition

If they win the division, they won't play again until Friday. He'll probably go on Sunday.

Re: Detroit Tigers, Volume 6: The Al Kaline edition

Bases loaded, 0 out...and we don't even hit the **** ball out of the infield. Pitiful.

Re: Detroit Tigers, Volume 6: The Al Kaline edition

What in the actual **** was that? Torii chucks one out of play, scoring run, with lots of help from Avila, and the runner ends up at 3rd.

Re: Detroit Tigers, Volume 6: The Al Kaline edition

3 bombs in the top of the 4th. All while I was playing around on ITunes.

If they're going to do this, I'll go back and play on ITunes for the next couple hours.

Re: Detroit Tigers, Volume 6: The Al Kaline edition

Hmm....

Don't say anything yet. No, it's not about a no-no. Just leave it be until it's done.

Re: Detroit Tigers, Volume 6: The Al Kaline edition

****ing Christ on a cracker.

Harrelson's Heroes led Cleeeeeveland 4-3 with two outs in the 9th. Former 'Roid Monkey Jason Giambi hit a two-run walk-off bomb to give the Tribe a 5-4 win.

Re: Detroit Tigers, Volume 6: The Al Kaline edition

Now I guess it's our turn to **** down our legs.

JFC, Fister, half this board could have hit that 400 feet. 85 MPH, pecker high, over the heart of the plate.

Re: Detroit Tigers, Volume 6: The Al Kaline edition

Yep. We clearly have our willy in our hand now.

Nice toss, Omar. You were 60 feet from the bag and only missed Prince by about 8 feet.

4-2 final.

Magic number is 1. We've clinched at least a tie for the AL Central.

I'm not going to respond to all of your posts last night, but you were in rare form. ;)

Being that I was listening to Dickerson and Price again while engaging in some home renovations... I'll offer some of my own rants...

"The art of pitching" count was at least 8

We all agree that certain umpires have generous strike zones on one night and keyholes the next

Dickerson blew my eardrums out on the Jackson poke (think Magglio's ALCS homer in 2006)- I hate it when he screams into the microphone

Price nearly started bawling on the air when that ".188 hitter" drilled that homer off of Reed for the walk off

That was right after they were literally pouring the champagne in the booth after the Sux came back in the 9th.

So... I get that Comerica has a large investment into the Tigers.. but I'd like to stick that clarinet up someone's poop pipe. They must play that same commercial 20 times over the course of the game.

Yes, Eli, it is fair and yes, the 3b should have made the play after the ball came back on the line. (You would think they have more than one "Rules of the game" commercial.)

It's painful, but I guess this is what we have to overcome to be fans when we can't watch it.

Re: Detroit Tigers, Volume 6: The Al Kaline edition

I think Eli has two of those commercials, but I think the Call Sam commercials drown them out. I can't believe they still put Eli on the air. Talk about hanging on to the past. I guess when you can't do the pregame show for Tigers '85 on Channel 4 this is what you're left with.

Price has gotten much better since they quit letting him do play by play. He's also gotten much more critical when we've messed things up the last two years.

I was not happy for a little while last night. That and I absolutely detest both Cleveland and the White Sox.

Yes, I have heard the other one, too. I'm sure there are quite a few youngsters going, "who in the H#ll is Eli?" I don't know how he sustained himself all these years... he really blew it when he left the plum job at channel 4 for NY and bombed and then got replaced by Bernie. I guess the Yaldo Eye Center pays pretty decent (?) I'd still give anything to hear George Kell utter... "back to you Eli..." again.

I like Jim Price (geez I remember him from '68 and then after his career when he did sports for channel 2.) and I do agree he has gotten more comfortable, much like Al Kaline did on tv. But, he's got A.D.D. when it comes to PBP. I also think he crafts his criticisms carefully (like the other night when Verlander was going to 3-2 counts and he said, "JV throw the heater and stop dancing around with these guys you should blow away.") but for the most part is a homer that throws far too many bouquets out.

The "nice area" thing for Zubor is annoying too.

I can't say I was happy Monday night. No excuse for losing 8 games to the Twins this season when they basically gutted of most of their offense. (Span, Kubel, Morneau, Mauer on the DL.) It's like the Tigers are out of gas. I wouldn't be surprised, even with our starting pitching, that we get swept in the first round.

I agree with your sentiments about Chicago and Cleveland. I experienced enough of both fanbases (regardless of sport). They are d*&k$ even if there isn't a condom small enough to fit either one of them.

Re: Detroit Tigers, Volume 6: The Al Kaline edition

I'd like to hear George Kell utter anything, but those days are gone. :(

I've got Game 5 of the 1968 Series on DVD. That will have to suffice.

Re: Detroit Tigers, Volume 6: The Al Kaline edition

Apparently, Iglesias might be back for the postseason. But, I suppose there's no guarantee of that--he's still struggling with the range of motion in his hand. I know that contusions, bone bruises, or stress fractures (whatever you want to call them) can be pretty difficult to recover from.

So, when is Jhonny's first game back?

And, when are we going to win this division? ! ? ! ? !
