Re: Detroit Tigers, Volume 6: The Al Kaline edition

Iglesias just left the game after taking a pitch on the left hand.

Re: Detroit Tigers, Volume 6: The Al Kaline edition

That did not look or sound good.

Jhonny Peralta just might be our next shortstop.
Sounds like it's just a contusion.

And I just love watching Big Boy run. Safe this time... although, on replay, he was tagged out. In the face.

ETA: I should say he was safe, but should have been out. The ump couldn't see the tag.

5-4 final.

Re: Detroit Tigers, Volume 6: The Al Kaline edition

If the season had ended last night, the Red Sox would get the winner of the wild card game and the Tigers would be traveling to Oakland.

Is that right?

If so, I do not like that scenario for Detroit if that's how it turns out 10 games from now.

And, what do you all think about Jhonny Peralta out in left field?

That is correct. Oakland holds the tiebreaker (h2h) on the Tigers, so Detroit has to beat them in the standings to have home field in the best of five.

BTW- Selig has changed the format, so it would be 2-2-1 now instead of 2-3 which gave the 3rd seed an advantage if they won on the 2nd seed's field.

As far as Peralta: Tigers need his bat and they got away with Delmon Young tip toeing out in LF last season. Dirks, Tuey and Castellano have not been the answer. It would be a risk with Peralta's range and his arm, but not a significant downgrade from what is trotted out there now.

Magic #: 4.

Castellanos is 21, not ready, and shouldn't be relied upon yet. Tuiasosopo is reverting to his career history, and Dirks looks lost at the plate. Peralta can't be too much worse.

Agreed. Offensive production from LF has been a disaster- even smart baseball like trying to move runners into scoring position with less than two outs, or a simple sacrifice fly has been a trainwreck.

Re: Detroit Tigers, Volume 6: The Al Kaline edition

Even though we got 2, I still don't like leaving the bases loaded.

2-1, end 1.

Re: Detroit Tigers, Volume 6: The Al Kaline edition

Okay now, Max. Just because we staked you to a 7-1 lead, that does not give you carte blanche to commence letting baseballs go bounding over buildings.

MARTINEZ!!

11-3, bottom 5

Eat hole, Hawk.

12-5 final.

Max Scherzer now has 20 wins.

Magic Number: 3

Re: Detroit Tigers, Volume 6: The Al Kaline edition

Good for Max, although he isn't as unhittable as he was in the first part of the season.

Dirks comes through with a big two out hit for once. It's nice wiping our feet on the Sox like a rug, considering they owned us for about ten years up until 2006.

Garcia is doing his best to say, "trade me, huh?"

Season series is lopsided (12-5?) after gang banging Cleveland, too. KC was 10-9 against us, though and I am not sure about the record with the Twins- I think it is pretty close, like 8-8 or 9-7.

Max = Cy Young?

Just when Dirks gets hot, we'll have to see Jhonny trying to get back in the groove. I think we should just stick with what we've had since Peralta's been gone. But, who knows and we shall see.

Tigers record vs Twins = 9 - 7

I'm really glad we've had Torii Hunter this year! Seems like he's been good for the team on and off the field.

Re: Detroit Tigers, Volume 6: The Al Kaline edition

Wow, Bondo has just given up 3 runs on 4 hits in the ninth and, mercifully, there's a pitching change.

Sox 6 : 0 Tigers

Porcello pitched a pretty good game...and got no support.

But, of course, Sale pitched a very good game and that's the short story.
