Re: Detroit Tigers, Volume 5: The Hank Greenberg edition

You know, people can boo all they want about Victorino trying to throw guys out at 1st from right field, but these plays are closer than many realize.

Didn't know that was an "unwritten" rule. I generally like to follow all those types of rules, but come on, if you're too lazy to outrun a ball hit to the outfield then you deserve to get thrown out.

That's my only beef with Cabrera. Rod Allen calls him one of the smartest base runners in the game, which he is, but he's also one of the laziest. Very rarely is there a close play at first with him, he's the king of the jog-it-out ground ball.

Great game tonight. Scherzer is getting more run support than anyone else (.5 runs more than Verlander, about a full run more than Sanchez and Fister), but he's also making sure not to waste it.

This. A thousand times, this.

This, too.

I don't think it's an unwritten rule, it's just that people aren't used to seeing a right fielder throw a runner out at 1st.

Doubront struggling early. Let's not go fishing here, Miggy.

Re: Detroit Tigers, Volume 5: The Hank Greenberg edition

Miggy goes Miggy, but not full-on Miggy. Missile to dead center for a ground-rule double.

75 RBI for Miggy now.

Re: Detroit Tigers, Volume 5: The Hank Greenberg edition

Hell of a play by Ellsbury. I thought we had another one there.

Re: Detroit Tigers, Volume 5: The Hank Greenberg edition

Martinez is 6-2. He wouldn't have caught Infante's throw if he was 7-2.

Re: Detroit Tigers, Volume 5: The Hank Greenberg edition

~110 pitches from Verlander to get through 5. *shakes head*

4-3 Red Sox, mid-5. It's going to be a long game.

I'm beginning to think that it might be a good idea to skip Verlander for his next start or two. All the pitches he's thrown over the past 3 years, its got to be wearing on him some.

Re: Detroit Tigers, Volume 5: The Hank Greenberg edition

That's a catch. Garcia should be out.

Somebody's getting tossed before this is all said and done.

Re: Detroit Tigers, Volume 5: The Hank Greenberg edition

And there it is. Farrell tossed. And he's got a legitimate beef.

Re: Detroit Tigers, Volume 5: The Hank Greenberg edition

You know, I thought Boston would get that call after the ****ing they just got in right.

Re: Detroit Tigers, Volume 5: The Hank Greenberg edition

Now it's a matter of whether the bullpen can hold on.

Re: Detroit Tigers, Volume 5: The Hank Greenberg edition

Did the Red Sox trade Andrew Bailey to you? Wouldn't worry then. :)

7-5 final.

We were THAT close to having a mess in the 9th.

Re: Detroit Tigers, Volume 5: The Hank Greenberg edition

Should Jim Price be called on the carpet?

A moment before Ricky P. gave up that home run vs. Baltimore in his previous, thus beginning his meltdown, Price announced that he had "reached that next level". I guess he's reached that next level.

Re: Detroit Tigers, Volume 5: The Hank Greenberg edition

Marlboro Jimmy left Alvarez in 1 batter too many.
