Re: Detroit Tigers, Volume 5: The Hank Greenberg edition

Apparently the Tigers are working on a contract extension with Miggy.

MIGGY!!!

2-0, top 3.

Re: Detroit Tigers, Volume 5: The Hank Greenberg edition

and... they choke. Chalk up #10 that Smoking Jimmy has given away.

Re: Detroit Tigers, Volume 5: The Hank Greenberg edition

I'm not sure I understand the logic. Looked to me like we just didn't hit the ball.

Lineup.

Fister pitches and he gets no run support, although he couldn't protect a 2-0 lead.

Besides, the default for frustration is always to target Leyland.

Re: Detroit Tigers, Volume 5: The Hank Greenberg edition

I didn't think the lineup was bad last night.

Now, I'm not a fan of tonight's lineup, so watch, we'll score about 6 in the first.

I get ****ed at Marlboro Jimmy when he does dumb stuff like batting Raburn 2nd and Kelly 3rd, saying that Raburn "might hit a 3-run homer". That and bringing in Phil Coke to pitch to 3 righties in a row with the bases loaded.

Re: Detroit Tigers, Volume 5: The Hank Greenberg edition

The problem with last night is that they were connecting with the ball--lots of fly outs, some ground outs, 8 LOB--but only Miggy's 2 RBI HR.

Re: Detroit Tigers, Volume 5: The Hank Greenberg edition

Oh, dear God, Tommy Brookens, that was horrible. He was out by 35 feet.

Re: Detroit Tigers, Volume 5: The Hank Greenberg edition

Left them loaded to end the 7th. That's probably the ball game, guys.

Re: Detroit Tigers, Volume 5: The Hank Greenberg edition

Or not. Martinez drives in Miggy with a sac fly in the 8th.

Re: Detroit Tigers, Volume 5: The Hank Greenberg edition

NOW we're going to get someone up. Too ****ing late.

Re: Detroit Tigers, Volume 5: The Hank Greenberg edition

That was one hell of a frame job from Avila.

Re: Detroit Tigers, Volume 5: The Hank Greenberg edition

And now Butler just got tossed, 2 minutes after he got back to the dugout.

Re: Detroit Tigers, Volume 5: The Hank Greenberg edition

Help wanted:

Closing pitcher position for the Detroit Tigers. No experience necessary.

Anything would be better than Papa Grande at this point.

Tigers lose today 3-2 after Valverde blew a 2-0 lead in the ninth.

Re: Detroit Tigers, Volume 5: The Hank Greenberg edition

On Facebook, the Detroit Athletic Company has a question posted: What should the Tigers do with Papa Grande?

I'm so tempted to answer "Introduce him to Donnie Moore"

Re: Detroit Tigers, Volume 5: The Hank Greenberg edition

This is enough to make our ace go to the Brass and say, WtheF. They can't possibly keep Valverde after two blown saves of this variety in two weeks.

Re: Detroit Tigers, Volume 5: The Hank Greenberg edition

Here's the kicker: Marlboro Jimmy thought it was a good idea to bring him in after one guy was already on base.

After the homer, Miggy dropped a ground ball and Prince dropped a pickoff throw. We're lucky we made it out of the 9th. Then, listening to the 10th, we were checked out mentally. We were done once Half-Blonde-Beard-Boy f-ed things up in the 9th.

It was like pulling teeth to get last night's win, too.
