Re: Detroit Tigers, Volume 2 - The Charlie Gehringer version

On the drive home the idiot DJ Man on the flagship said there had not been a rain delay in Texas since May, and we just got 2 within an hour.

Re: Detroit Tigers, Volume 2 - The Charlie Gehringer version

And Ricky Porcello is going to go in the bottom of the 5th inning.

Re: Detroit Tigers, Volume 2 - The Charlie Gehringer version

Two hours and two pitches later, Avila drowns the bases loaded to end the 5th.

Hooray. We're dead.

Re: Detroit Tigers, Volume 2 - The Charlie Gehringer version

Extremely impressive performance tonight from Perry. Probably the best outing of his career. Too bad we've wasted the best chances of the night.

Re: Detroit Tigers, Volume 2 - The Charlie Gehringer version

Wilson Betemit: Not very intelligent in the batter's box.

Re: Detroit Tigers, Volume 2 - The Charlie Gehringer version

Texas' pitching looks much better than I remember. Needed our horse to come through and he didn't. Sadly, Dirks isn't the only one on a milk carton. Seems like the entire offense just joined him. Oh well, sounds like tomorrow could be a washout.

Re: Detroit Tigers, Volume 2 - The Charlie Gehringer version

After the rain delay, the Tigers made 13 outs, 8 of which were via the strikeout. It's tough to get anything going offensively when you can't put the ball in play. Ironically, I didn't think Betemit's at-bat was terrible. Those pitches were right down the heart of the strike zone; he just sucks and can't hit them. Avila's at-bat with the bases loaded was absolute horse****. He's batting 1-for-18, the pitcher has just come into an extremely tight spot, and Avila bails him out by not waiting for a strike. I understand not wanting to a waste a decent pitch, but if you get up 2-0 in the count with the bases loaded, you're going to see another good pitch.

In the 9th, Santiago makes a nice play by not trying to do too much to get on, and the next three guys try to swing out of their shoes when, if just one of them can get on base, the best hitter in baseball comes to the plate with a runner in scoring position. If you want to break a slump, force a pitcher to pitch with a 2-0 count every once in a while rather than swinging at every ****ing pitch.

Re: Detroit Tigers, Volume 2 - The Charlie Gehringer version

Betemit looked like he was swinging at a pinata instead of a baseball. It looked like he even had the blindfold on, too.

We left the bases loaded twice last night. There's your ballgame.

Re: Detroit Tigers, Volume 2 - The Charlie Gehringer version

We lost game one to the Hankees, too. Oh, well.

My satisifaction level of the team went up Thursday. Well, all of the alds. This is gravy. Keep playing hard, Boys.

Re: Detroit Tigers, Volume 2 - The Charlie Gehringer version

At least they had the brains not to schedule it for 8 pm.

Re: Detroit Tigers, Volume 2 - The Charlie Gehringer version

And now Magglio has re-fractured his ankle where it broke last year.

And now Magglio has re-fractured his ankle where it broke last year.

Mags hasn't exactly been a spark plug this season. But now we're suddenly running very short on outfielders (and he brought a lot of important playoff experience), which has to be a concern.

Re: Detroit Tigers, Volume 2 - The Charlie Gehringer version

Young replaces Maggs on the roster, and is in the lineup this afternoon.
