Detroit Lions 2016: I'm Bad, And That's Good.

Re: Detroit Lions 2016: I'm Bad, And That's Good.

Having to root for Dallas in this game is an unsavory experience.

8 minutes to go. I cry uncle. I'm done for the night.

Re: Detroit Lions 2016: I'm Bad, And That's Good.

So next Sunday's game is "win or stay home."

Typical Lions.

Unless NYG beats WAS, then we clinch the 6 seed no matter what.

If WAS beats NYG, though, THEN things get interesting. Loser of GB/DET is eliminated, but if there's a tie both GB and DET get in.

Wrap your head around this one: score tied in OT, 2 minutes left, Lions have the ball at their own 20. WAS has won. Lions get in with a tie, but the NFC North title is 80 yards away. Do you drive for the division, the risk being a fumble/interception/three-and-out/incomprehensible Lionsesque reffing decision that could knock you out of the playoffs entirely?

This could be the Lions Moment to end all Lions Moments.

Re: Detroit Lions 2016: I'm Bad, And That's Good.

I haven't been able to find it anywhere. If NYG beats WAS, both Detroit and Green Bay are in, yes?

Twitch, while that is interesting, it's fantasy. We are talking the lions

It is far more likely that we will get blown out.

Yes, unless Tampa also wins and their ten scenarios happen exactly as it should, then Sunday's winner gets the division and the loser gets the #6 seed, although putting your hopes and dreams on the shoulders of the Giants is a risky proposition, no matter what their record is.

Re: Detroit Lions 2016: I'm Bad, And That's Good.

Lions TD ties it up at the end of regulation. The PAT to win it is blocked and returned for 2 points and the GB win.

Broncos actually already did that this season. I think someone else did too.

I'll go with "game tied at the end, defensive facemask as the clock expires, Stafford turns it over on the untimed down and GB runs it in for six."

Re: Detroit Lions 2016: I'm Bad, And That's Good.

I'm trying to find new ways for us to crap the bed. We've already had the TD on an untimed down. A while back we had the holder drop the tying XP in the Baggy Dome. We've done the kick return in OT for a TD. I mean, it can't be a boring pick-6 or a fumble recovery. We've been there, done that.

Is a kick that rebounds off the goalpost into the field of play in play?

No. Remember, the base is out of bounds, so the crossbar and uprights are as well.

IIRC, I believe it's also illegal to goaltend on a FG/XP as well:

http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2012/09/14/nfl-details-key-officiating-issues-from-week-one/

— Goaltending is against the rules in football, not just basketball: A player who jumps up and touches a ball as it is about to go through the goal posts in an attempt to block a field goal is flagged for goaltending, a 15-yard penalty.

Safety on an untimed down would be pretty close to maximum fail. Bit of a convoluted setup to get there though.

Re: Detroit Lions 2016: I'm Bad, And That's Good.

I will predict neither the outright blow-out, nor the last-second heartbreaker.

I figure it's a duplicate of the game vs. Dallas. Lions are competitive after the first half - tied, or within a touchdown, or maybe even leading by 3-7 points. Then, they blow it in the second half and lose by 2-3 touchdowns.

Per Facebook discussion, I'm changing my vote to "Lions fall victim to the first 1-point safety in NFL history."
