Denver at UNO - Saturday 3/3/2012 Final Regular Season Game

Re: Denver at UNO - Saturday 3/3/2012 Final Regular Season Game

Try this on for size:

Jay Zee scores on a wicked wrister to make it 4-0 in the first as DU sets a school record for scoring four goals in 93 seconds.

Sounds good to me and Jay is back on Pio Vision

0-0 a little over 5 minutes left in 1st.

Sammy saving the bacon, DU needs to tighten up on D.

Re: Denver at UNO - Saturday 3/3/2012 Final Regular Season Game

On the Zucker/Zooker issue. Clearly the NBC guys were told to call him Zooker, no harm there. Its probably what the family wants.

Gabe Gauthier changed the pronunciation of his name when we went up to Canada to play juniors and decided he liked the French pronunciation.

I suspect that Zucker will become Zookur when he plays in the NHL.

That's certainly possible. Although we're getting more than one story about that. It's just those NBC guys were so obviously ill prepared, they don't generate a lot of confidence. How many mentions of the infamous "bubble" last night? 10? 110?

Part of what's called the Golden Triangle: Port Arthur, Beaumont, and Vidor. I believe it's Vidor that's the state headquarters for the Klan. No black person living there until very recently. Some who moved in almost immediately moved out.

Golden Triangle= PA, Beaumont and Orange. Am presently writing an article on Nederland (which sits in the middle of the Triangle) for a nat'l publication. Used to have a secretary from PA, she told stories about how all the kids went out and played in the mist behind the nightly spraying from the DDT truck. Nice As for Vidor... oy. The whole world knows how they escorted blacks out of town there... with chains and a pick'em up truck. Not a pretty thought. The whole area is indeed the anus of the earth. Who did you pi#s off to be stationed there, OP?

Oh yeah, I forgot about Orange. I was working for Clear Channel and was heading to their major blowtorch in San Antonio WOAI. They stashed me in PA 'til they'd made their, uh, personnel adjustments. And don't forget Bridge City, named after the Rainbow Bridge, which is the scariest structure I've ever driven over. Back in my day it was only two lanes wide. And nearly 190 feet high. Glurg

To put Vidor in some perspective, a kid who'd volunteered to be a "traveling companion" for a couple of gay truckers, woke up one morning at a nearby rest stop and decided he had to "escape" and that required killing the two guys while they slept. The kid became an instant hero for some of Vidor's more intellectual types. House wives were bringing him cakes, cookies and other home made treats to him in the jail. After all, he'd killed a couple of qu**rs. Don't ask any embarrassing questions about the details.

The bridge into Galveston scared more than a few. Back in the day when the Texas flag pole sat on a slight incline so the Lone Star flew above the Stars and Stripes

Per Chambers, "not sure about David (Makowski) that's a tricky deal." What does that mean? Concussion symptoms???

The Rainbow Bridge was constructed to accomodate the tallest ship then in the Navy. And I had to cross that thing twice a day because I was working in Port Arthur but living in Lake Charles, LA. The original bridge was only two lanes, one in each direction, wide. And these were narrow, 30's type lanes. The thought of some sort of problem on that thing, not being able to see on coming traffic, pretty much had my guts in a knot every trip over it. They have since build another, separate, bridge. And brought the lanes on the old bridge up to modern interstate standards. There are several videos on you tube of people crossing that sucker. And even with both lanes going the same direction, it still scares me.

Texas has a unique way of looking at things. They were planning to build a giant obelisk at the site of the Battle of San Jacinto, where Sam Houston beat Santa Anna and Texas won its independence. The plan was to top the obelisk with a giant "lone star" and that it would be taller than the Washington Monument. Federal regulations prohibit that, so they built the obelisk, with the star, and extended it several stories underground!
