He's probably a great guy. It's a matter of style. And the judgements are completely subjective. Who knows, maybe DU fans really like him and I'm totally wrong. There is no job in broadcasting which brings out more fan opinions than PBP. And most of the people who have opinions about the PBP guy (with a few exceptions, ahem) couldn't accurately describe taking a leak. Put a mic in their hands and 99% of 'em would blow into the thing then say "test, test." The trick is not describing what's going on. It's describing what's going on NOW. On the plus side, he's very enthusiastic.

I've talked to him. He is just as goofy as he is on the air. Nothing personal. He just has a pretty low level understanding of the game. When Rycroft joins him the quality goes up many fold.

That line he uses (too) frequently about "flying solo," is totally inside baseball. I understand how much harder he has to work without someone else's input. And help during the intermissions. But the audience doesn't care. It sounds pretty close to an excuse.
