Doesn't make my point any less valid, that hobknobbing in Academia is no more relevant to understanding the average voter than being in the C-suite of a fortune 500 company.

1. As a symbol. Born in Somalia, refugee. Comes to America, faces the hideous derp of the bigots and goes to Congress. She is the embodiment of the American Dream.
2. For her words and attitude. Strongly rebuking the fear and hate of the right. Clear, intelligent, aware of her importance and using it.
3. For who hates her. Give me somebody who "worries" pundits and apparatchiks in the Center.
Why do you like anybody? You like their demeanor and their stance on things. Much like Sanders, Members are very tightly constrained in what they are allowed to get done, but they can embody virtues and espouse causes which eventually become mainstream. We would not be pushing for universal health care without Sanders. Having people like AOC and Omar in public positions fighting back against the derp is healthy -- they are America's antibodies against the lethal virus of the right.

I think she says stupid stuff, but she is vocal on all the right issues and is in league with the right people in the Progressive Wing.
She wont be primaried successfully because that area is not very "Clinton-esque" so unless a full on Socialist runs as a Dem against her she is fine. The U and Somali Town alone will guarantee she is good to go.

We don't believe the things we do are truth because they're truth. We believe them because that's who we are. And we could be wrong.

Handy is not the center, Handy is left. He has repeatedly stated that he sides with Bernie on the issues, he just dislikes the "Bernie or Bust" types that you don't believe exist in substantial numbers.

My issues with Omar have zero to do with her Progressive stances...in fact that is 100% why I will always vote for her no matter who runs against her. My issues with her are personal stances and things she says that are outside the political realm.
And I am more than 3 SDs away from Rover...I just also understand there are repercussions to the politics I have. For example I supported LGBTQ Rights to the hilt, would die on that hill all day long. But I also knew when that became a big time issue the blowback would be awful. Understanding the risks is how you succeed.
I also understand that incremental change is better than no change...which the Berners and the rest of the "Burn the System to the Ground" crowd never understand. I also know you dont win elections by alienating half the people who will vote for you. The trixs of the world dont understand that which is why they always lose. Nancy Pelosi may not be Progressive enough...but I would want her all day as Speaker against people like Trump or Dubya because she has the balls to fight them and she has arm twisting ability to get the Party behind her. She gets politics...they dont. As such her kind will always win, and they will always be on twitter sharing memes talking about how "Only X candidate can win" even though X loses every time.
I love true believers, and I admire their passion and agree with 99% of the stuff they stand for...but this century so far has shown that "The Lesser of Two Evils" will always be acceptable to the alternative. If Gore wins in 2000 the world is a better place. If Hillary wins in 2016 the world is a better place. Until they realize that they will never truly be a movement. This includes Bernie...who is the only politician I have ever donated to. (twice)

The funny thing is, if Sanders like progressivism was winning around the country, I'd be at the front of the line saying how I was with him all along.
But as I've said repeatedly, and as the primary thus far has borne out, show me the swing states and districts where Bernie style lefties are winning races? The answer is nowhere. I had trix try to tell me Sanders winning in Vermont was a sign of swing state popularity 
as well as AOC even though her district is like 99% Democratic. Don't ask me to charge that hill and assure me there's millions of people behind me, only for me to turn around and find they all stayed home to smoke dope and play video games instead.

I dont doubt Maher will try and broach the subject though. His big fear is a repeat of 2016 which is why he was pimping more moderate candidates as we got closer to the primaries. He doesnt want Bernie sticking around too long and dividing the party.

I don't know if Sanders has the same ability to divide the party as in 2016. Back then a common theme from his supporters was "is there really a big difference between Hillary and Trump?" 4 years later, the answer is clear and decisive: Fuk Yes. Every incompetent move during this coronavirus crisis and every time Chump runs out another dumba ss relative to run something that they have no business being involved in just furthers the point that we need competence in govt over ideological purity. Biden can be the transformational leader that everybody longs before in spite of himself by just being a normal guy making sane decisions.
