Re: Democratic Challengers 2020 - 12: The End of the Beginning

Please stop perpetuating this generalization. It's part of the problem.

Demonizing Sanders supporters is exactly as lazy, inane, and counterproductive as demonizing Warren supporters.

When are those that don't fit the stereotype going to make their presence known?

Biden is the best the left could do? Good luck with that

JT - you're a good guy but this is at best a silly comment given his opponent is Trump.

Re: Democratic Challengers 2020 - 12: The End of the Beginning

He's certainly not going to bow out right now. That would be ridiculous. Biden was dead two weeks ago. Sanders is dead now. Biden could be dead again in two weeks.

Once the writing is on the wall then he should horsetrade a bit with Biden on cabinet picks and then be a good soldier. Until then, no. Biden's not entitled to anything any more than Sanders was last month.

Either of them could be literally dead with NCOV. Hell, I'm not convinced Warren doesn't think she could be the only one who literally survives the primary season. Then again, she's in the same boat (too soon?). ;)

What is your major malfunction? Do you want to win or do you want to do your shtick?

I feel like a parent with brats in the back seat. Cut the sh-t. Impress us with your rapier wit after the election.

Why are you on my case? Like 4 other people have posted the same thing.

Re: Democratic Challengers 2020 - 12: The End of the Beginning

Bernie now has a great opportunity thrust upon him. How many people are truly given an occasion to save the country? All he has to do is to convince his coalition to support Biden as enthusiastically as they have supported him. If he achieves that, he will be deserving of permanent accolades as a true American hero.

not happening - he spent last night attacking Biden. He should be attacking Trump and saying why HE is the best person to take him on. Don't alienate people that support other candidates and don't brainwash your supporters to hate them.
In '16 he did the same thing. He got more aggressive with Clinton as it got closer to the convention in '16, before finally endorsing her, but by then his supporters were rabidly anti-clinton.

He said "I like Joe, he's a good guy, we just have different visions."

What a bloodthirsty attack!

I don't care about them, they are goners.

I want them to be even more abrasive and delusional at the July 4th cook out and the Labor Day picnic. I want them full blast in their neighbors' and families' faces. If you think Bernie Bros were off putting, wait until the Braying Nazis come a-callin'.

If we trigger them correctly they could be our best canvassers this Fall.

Neither do I. But any humiliation or denigration they have to suffer won't be enough.

He said "I like Joe, he's a good guy, we just have different visions."

What a bloodthirsty attack!

then hammered him about the Iraq war and a bunch of other **** that encouraged his supporters to boo Joe

I said brats in the back seat. I understand the usual selfishness of message boarding -- I indulge in it frequently myself. But it's pretty raw to read "Sanders supporters are this..." 165 times a day by people who are just saying "yay my team, yay meeeee!!!"

The mission is unity. So f-cking be friends. See? Friends!

Even if he was attacking him, I kind of understand that. We didn't know how the final results would play out when he spoke. People weren't even done voting for cripes sake. I don't blame him.

Sleeping on things and reassessing in the morning can lead to a world of difference.

yeah, I just think he needs to start toning it down a bit. He should absolutely continue to campaign but it just seems he has the tendency to convince a large swath of his supporters that Clinton, Biden, etc are the enemy. Trump is the enemy. Make the case why you're be best to take him on without demonizing your primary opponents (and convincing your supporters to hate them). At some point you'll need them or they'll need you.

Well, Kepler is doing so now. So if Rover could stop being a twat for 5 seconds it would help.
What fun would a message board be if that happens

Re: Democratic Challengers 2020 - 12: The End of the Beginning

When Sanders' rallies boo a Democrat, Sanders should stop them the way McCain stopped that crazy person who thought Obama was a terrorist.

Especially now that it has gotten such extensive coverage I expect Sanders to throw cold water on that. Not only is that booing bad for the party, it also is hurting Sanders himself by reinforcing the Bernie Bro narrative.

And it has to be Sanders himself. Put yourself in the position of an attendee who doesn't want to boo. If a few people start booing what are you going to do, boo them? That will only make it sound like more people are booing Biden. Physically restrain them? Obviously not.

Yeah, it might not be enough when everyone on the right is giving their full support to a man who is everything they teach their children not to be.

Are you sure they're teaching their children?

I mean, in general, it would be great if people during a primary could focus on just the other party and not attacking their own party. And also, I'd like a pony. If it were possible to make all of that happen, it would have happened by now. The best we can hope is that any of them (not just Bernie) keep it to a dull roar.

And while I understand people feel that Bernie should see the inevitable coming and thus have more reason to discourage, we're still a long way from over here. Biden has a 50 delegate lead with still more than 1500 needed; yeah I know he has the momentum; yeah I know with Bloomberg out that clears a better path; but it would be dumb for people to expect him to be packing his things now; I wouldn't; and mind you, I voted for Biden yesterday and I'm saying this.

In short, everyone is blowing everything out of proportion. All this has happened before in primaries; all of this will happen again.

Exactly!

However there is a more important point beyond that you're all here for my amusement. Sanders and his people got handled with kid gloves 4 years ago because everybody wanted his supporters to come on board. A lot of bad behavior usually not tolerated was overlooked in pursuit of that goal. That can't become the norm (My candidate or bust, vicious social media attacks, etc) without any pushback. If the party is a bunch of people like trix, we'll have trouble putting together a coalition broad enough to get elected dogcatcher, let alone President.

I think Sanders was a lot closer to this nomination than history will recall when looking back on it. But, I can't help be curious if the reason why an unprecedented amount of late deciding voters went Biden's way wasn't because of some fear of Sanders the candidate or his electoral prospects, but because people just couldn't bring themselves to have to deal with the rampant a ssholery of far too many of his supporters. I myself like the old codger. But from his surrogates to his rank and file backers its like having to sit at a family dinner with pokechecker on one side and tica on the other.

I don't think so. 95% of people don't give a **** about politics until the week of. They don't go on twitter to digest politics or look for detailed 538 analyses.

All they care about is "What did <Celebrity> say this time?!" or "OUCH MY BALLS!" ( ;) )
