Re: Dead!!!!

Our daredevil trifecta is complete. Cirque du Soleil performer has a safety harness failure and falls to her death during a performance of Ka.

Have seen Ka. The part of the show in question involves a big chunk of the stage floor rotating to vertical and leaving a big pit for the bad guys to fall down (they even play a nice discomforting "boom" noise when someone falls down it.) She must have missed the pit and went whack against what's left of the stage.

Re: Dead!!!!

This is just horrific. When I read Young Men & Fire about the Mann Gulch fire, it was overwhelmingly sad. And this is much, much worse.

Nineteen years ago this Saturday the South Canyon Fire erupted just outside of Glenwood Springs, CO and took the lives of 14 hotshot firefighters.

We had just moved to Glenwood that week and were downtown when the sky turned red. After 21 years as a cop I thought that I'd seen it all. Wrong.

A year later I hiked up to where the fire overran them. It was so steep I could barely stand up.

There's always a lot of good natured animosity between cops and firefighters, but these wildland crews do an incredible job under the worst conditions imaginable. They are true heroes.
