DON'T SEARCH MEATSPIN.

How's lemonparty doing nowadays? :D

That needs to be redoubled for both meatspin and lemonparty, unless you bat for the other team. Good lord!

Les, if you make the mistake of searching those, they are basically sites that have gay porn GIFs and accompanying music as a prank to those who aren't expecting them. I don't know of any other way of explaining it.

Back in the day, when you could hide the sources for a link, you posted those under some clickbait headline/whatever. Then the fun ensued when someone clicked on said link. :D

Exactly, which also led to things like the "Rickroll" meme with Rick Astley's music.

Ahhhh, the teacup references.....
Thanks for that in my head before I head off to try to sleep with a clean mind! :D

There was always the crazy Dutch children's show, too, with alternate subtitles (phonetic subtitles)(NSFW under no circumstances):

Holy crap, I completely forgot about this. Has to have been 10 years since I saw it. Definitely not NSFW, but still funny and with no naked parts. Quite funny, if you don't mind making fun of how other languages sound.

The internet has many lost treasures, due to its growth. :D

Dutch and Danish are so ridiculously different compared to standard German, despite supposedly being cousins. I'm still trying to figure out how exactly the 'ø' is pronounced.

I found I could pick up Dutch ok with my German ability. Of course it probably didn’t hurt that I was sleeping with a hot Dutch guy at the time.

So I got stuck in AMS overnight on my way back from Berlin (Delta's fault) a couple months ago, and I'm looking at all these extra vowels and the letter 'j's on the condiment bottles (sorry :p) in the hotel they stuck me in, and I'm just like, "This does not even seem close". But from what I hear, the native Dutch don't have much problem understanding German, but NOT vice versa?

I've heard this about the various dialects of India, too. Hindi speakers can broadly understand Bengali speakers (same language family), kind of understand Telugu speakers (not the same language family, but still enough similarity), and barely understand Tamil speakers (almost a completely different language), but not the other way around, and some/most of the details might get lost.

Re: Dead Thread 2019-???: Yep, They're Still Dead.

The funny thing is, I've watched a lot of cycling races in Dutch over the years, because that was the only way to see a lot of the spring classics back in the old days. And I can't make heads or tails of that guttural dialect, but then every once in a while, there's a complete English phrase stuck in the middle of the race commentary, such as "grrrgghh grrrghhh derrrggh verrggg over the top grrggghh grenm"

Always struck me as very strange.
