Re: Days Since Last Mass Shooting: 0

For the record: The gunman was legally able to purchase and carry the weapons used in the shooting.

As first reported by Red State, it appears as if Omar Mateen had two separate licenses to carry firearms in Florida. According to the state’s publicly available database of concealed carry licenses, Mateen held two different licenses: a Class D license, given to security guards, and a Class G license, which is a general concealed carry license. Both were set to expire in September 2017. An ATF spokesperson confirmed today that Mateen was able to legally purchase guns, and bought both of the weapons used in the attack within the last week.

I quote a tweet by the Texas Lt. Governor"

"Do not be deceived, God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows"
-Galations 6:7

Look I get it...you think the world is 6000 years old and that Jesus was a white Anglo Saxon...but here is hoping if God exists he sticks the firey sword of death up your *** and twists. You are below pond scum and are everything that is wrong with religion and humanity. Please cease wasting carbon and oxygen.

Saw the bottom line for the gun debate on Twitter today.

In retrospect Sandy Hook marked the end of the US gun control debate. Once America decided killing children was bearable, it was over.

Truth.

As for this scumbag today (last night). His dad knew something was going on and didn't say nothing. Just his kid having a spazz about what he saw in public was a teachable moment and the Dad blew it. Hope you enjoy the rest of your life being the father of the ultimate scumbag.

Re: Days Since Last Mass Shooting: 0

The gun control debate is not over but it did go into a coma after Sandy Hook. The right government and the right Court will enact and uphold sane regulation. This is a short term hostage situation with the gun lobby, just as cancer sticks and coal plants and oil companies.

And Sanford swimming rapist's Dad thinks his son is a musunderstood lad. I understand that he is your kid, but if he screws up by the numbers, he has to face the consequences . I don't think Omerta applies to everyday families.

Re: Days Since Last Mass Shooting: 0

Once again, it's not the guns, nor the laws (in general, more on that in a minute). It's the mentality of the people owning the guns.

I am for stricter background checks, mental health checks, etc. If everything is A-OK, then go ahead, buy a gun. BUT, as it SEEMS in this case, you won't catch all the nutjobs. And banning all guns is an impossibility at this point in time. There is no way you can eliminate all firearms in this country, and that may even include the option of becoming a full-on police state.

My guess is we're probably close to about 80 senators and 400 representatives away from "the right" government as I suspect you mean. I don't even know if the NRA actually wields the kind of power our congress fears, but I do know that the vast majority are too spineless to even begin to hint at taking them on. It would take a hundred Sandy Hooks and 50 Orlando's and probably at least a dozen Gabby Giffords before they decided that getting re-elected is less important than taking a principled stand.

No one will ever convince me that you need an AR-15. No one. Just like I don't need a grenade launcher, I don't need an AR-15. The laws in this country are stupid and asnine. This guy was investigated by the FBI and still was able to get permits to own and carry guns in Florida.

So, we're not even weeding the riff raff during that process.

Ban the bribes, then elected officials will have to vote the will of their constituents.

About 80% of NRA members want sane regulation of firearms. The reason we have the Wild, Wild West is the bribes from the gun lobby.

Pretty sure that in general, you cannot legally arm yourself with a fully operational grenade launcher. And, feel free to correct me on this, but an AR-15 is no different than any other semi-automatic gun, other than looks. The appearance of the AR-15 is what freaks people out.

You know after the fifth or sixth mass killing those arguments start to ring hollow...especially since we know stricter laws are being shot down all the time, often by the people who pretend to support them. False placations arent helping the issue. The more we pretend there isnt a problem beyond just the people who have the guns the more we are enabling this crap. Stricter background checks probably isnt enough to prevent this and you know it...

And sorry but blaming the mentality (I am sure there are now multiple reports of this guy being mentally ill) of the killer is a cop out. Not every mass killer is insane no matter how much the media likes to pretend they are. Such generalizations do nothing but paint a wide brush on the mentally ill. (because that is what people always seem to assume these murderers are) Anyways, these killings are becoming more and more frequent, sooner or later it is not a few bad apples ruining the bunch, the bunch is rotten and needs to be trashed.

I amend my referring to this guy as a nutjob. He apparently is (if the reports are true) a religious extremist. There is a difference, and I think we all know this. I apologize for lumping them all in the same basket. I do support stricter laws in GETTING a gun, but make them reasonable, and no gun registry. I am fully against the latter. I am for making it more "difficult" to get a gun.

Re: Days Since Last Mass Shooting: 0

The largest mass stabbing in modern history had eight deaths.

Did you miss the part where I said that at this point in time that banning all guns is an impossibility at this point in time? I'm pretty sure you did.

Re: Days Since Last Mass Shooting: 0

Let's ban all pointy things. Or is 8 deaths an acceptable number? Ban fertilizer/nitrates/bomb making stuff, too.

Anything can kill anyone if used in a creative manner.

Pretty sure the smallest thing in the world that can kill 50 people that fast is the AR15. Let's start there and not get ****ing stupid.

If you banned the retail sale of them or manufacturing of them for anyone other than military/police, they would eventually become less common. But god forbid we do something that requires looking ahead farther than tomorrow.

It's different than most semi-automatic pistols. But then pistols generally have smaller clip sizes, too.

You don't have to use a gun in a creative manner to kill someone. That's kind of its intended purpose.

I've never, ever handled a weapon with the intention of killing "someone". Killing animals (birds, deer), sure. Otherwise, strictly targets.

But yes, a guns lone purpose is a man killing hunk of metal, absolutely.
