Re: Dartmouth @ RPI - Saturday, Feb 2nd

My analysis of the game, since I wasn't on the air, but watching right next to Kurt. RPI came out in the first and second a little shaky, but thy obviously corrected that real fast. I though Dartmouth did the better job of getting to the loose pucks in the first period, but in the second and third it was RPI with that advantage. LeBeouf was in the right place at the right time on the almost Dartmouth goal in the first, after a great save by Kasdorf. RPI is en fuego, they are playing with al the confidence in the world. I never got the feeling that Kasdorf would give up a goal, he was in total control of the game. I'm glad that I never have to see those uniforms again. Even if I was someone who bid on jerseys, I would not have bid on those ugly things.

Just got back from the game and I couldn't agree with you analysis more. Kasdorf was fantastic. His stick work during the scrums in front of the net was great. Our freshman class is unbelievable. They all played great all night.
I don't get a vote, but if I did, It would be player of the week, goalie of the week and freshman of the week to Jason Kasdorf. Outstanding.

Re: Dartmouth @ RPI - Saturday, Feb 2nd

Great weekend for us but I am a little scared of how good Kazzy has been lately. If he keeps playing this way I am fearful we may lose him early to the Jets. He made some really good saves tonight but also give credit to his D who save at least two goals from going in. I can remember at least one where it was a wide open net and some how the D kept it out. I think it was in the first period. Again awesome weekend for us and I hope we keep it up. Do have to say I think Haggs may be trying a bit to hard these past two games instead of just going out and playing hockey. Could be the reason he was shut out on the score sheet. Just my opinion.

No love for Miller? That's 3 goals for him this weekend - I think he should get some consideration as well. Hell, let's sweep the awards!

Guys-trying not to go overboard here. Remember-harvard was a very depleted team that is stuck in 12th place. Dartmouth is a very good team that played a very tough OT game the night before on the road-and was just a bit off last night. How many flubbed shots, missed keep ins at the point, and fall downs? Don't get me wrong-I think we played fantastic-Kasdorf has a knack for puck management that we have not seen here in a while. The defense covered for each other and made less mistakes than usual. But-we did not have officials out there calling all sorts of little questionable penalties and we got away with the few defensive errors we did make(several times not being able to clear our zone because of waving at the puck instead of shooting it out). Even our little habit of waiting for the puck to reach us instead of skating to the puck did not hurt us last night. We had a good night-a very good night in some respects. But i will wait until the North Country trip is over before I get myself all ready for the playoffs.

Doc, I believe that the flubbed shots and missed keep ins are just the breaks of the game evening out over the course of the season. Earlier in the year, I felt that we had no puck luck at all.
We are not all the way there yet, but we continue to improve and Dartmouth had one heck of a fore check, and we did a great job of getting the puck out of our zone. I think we learned a lot last night and won at the same time.
As for the officials, it was the best called game I have seen in years. They did not insert themselves in the middle of the game and let all the questionable calls go for both teams.
It seems that I knock the officials on a weekly basis, I would like to congratulate the two referees in last nights game.

Miller's goal last night was one for the highlight reel. He was great this weekend, but when was the last time we had a goalie shut out the ECAC competition for a weekend?

Not in my memory-and i go back to the Bill Sack days. Admittedly Kaz had an easy time friday night. But as you correctly point out-shutouts are just not all that common for us, especially against ECAC teams.

And as i originally posted at the time-the Miller goal was a highlight reel play.

Pretty much what i had said. The officials did not inject themselves into the game. DC is a big, fast, talented team-but i felt they had a bit of an off night-perhaps the late finish at Union and being on the road made a small difference. They were not as sharp as they were the night before. We played well-but we benefitted quite a bit from some sloppy DC play also. Also-had to add-some of the defensive play of Curadi by taking the body helped clear some room. This DC group of forwards has a way of pushing defenses around and our defensive size and strength was extremely important in keeping things tidy in front of Kasdorf. i agree 100% that we are not all the way there yet-in spite of going 6-0 in goals over the weekend-we have got to find a way to put one extra goal per night into th enet. It does not sound like much-but it is HUGE. That is the difference right now for us. other Parts of the game are all falling into place very nicely. Congrats to SA for having this team ready to play and making whatever adaptations were necessary.

reminds me of what I heard earlier in the week while watching the Blues. Darren Pang, when talking about the great start by the Blues' D-men, talked about a conversation he had with Blues goalie Jaraslov Halak, Halak said he now gives much more credit to Brodeur for being able to stay focused (for years) when the D was limiting teams to so few shots....said it's so hard to get any rythym & focus when seeing so few shots.

Re: Dartmouth @ RPI - Saturday, Feb 2nd

Laing makes sense. He had a lot of shutouts in his career. I believe, even with York in the mix, that he was the best goalie RPI has had since I have been watching ('93/'94). JMO

My vote goes to Laing also. He came in unheralded. All he did is play solid almost every time in net. Actually I felt he could have made more of a mark in the pro ranks-saw him play once ( I think it was in Wilkes-Barre) and he was fantastic. But he may have lacked the size that many NHL teams prefer in their keepers. It is a bit too early for me to say but in all my years of following our team-Kasdorf seems to show me more as a freshman than I have seen ever. And i go back to when the freshmen were not playing on the varsity team. I never saw Bill Sack as a freshman but from then on I have seen every goalie come into Troy. Kasdorf just seems so confident in his play and almost always makes the right move. I suspect it has helped him alto to have a coach who played the position.
