Dartmouth Hockey 2016-17 Season

Yes Davis Rink is to Dartmouth what Snively is to UNH. IIRC Davis had bench seating just on one side. Very minimalistic but functional. Thompson was a major upgrade to a storied program, kinda!

Another storied program from Cow Hampsha with no hardware?

Trivia question: Which of the two teams has been in more NC games?

IIRC the design of Thompson Arena was cited as a (the?) model for how they constructed The Whitt.

Thanks to eddieshack23, snively65, e.cat, Chuck Murray, and HockeyRef for posting on the Big Green thread!

The Big Green has a big game this Saturday when UNH comes into Thompson. It will be big from these standpoints: they will see if they can rebound from tough weekend before in the North Country and also provide a big lift heading into Christmas/Holiday break before coming back and hosting the Ledyard. I am expecting a solid effort in all three zones backed by some improved specialty unit play both on PP/PK.

Thanks for the dining tips earlier. If I can get to Hanover early enough, will check out Molly's. But, may need to head straight to the shuttle parking lot, and try my luck with the chowdah again.

You have a good time up there tomorrow night!!! I will be "watching" the game from a Christmas party I'd really rather NOT be at...sigh. Will have to hit Molly's another time. Go 'Cats!!

Ps...you are a most gracious host Big Green...looking forward to visiting Thompson Arena another time!

I'm pretty sure we (UNH) are a part of the holiday tournament next year, that is why we played the last two seasons in Durham. Will be fun to go back to Thompson this weekend having grown up in Lebanon and gone to many games there. Always a hard game to be a fan at though as I do like both teams.

You must be referring to the Ledyard Classic if I have that right...love that part of the state; have a good friend who lives in Norwich (house sits for one of those amazing estates up there). That probably takes the place of us playing Maine as next year there will be no Verizon game; it's up in Portland...

HockeyRef and deltabravo62,

Not sure on your end but yes we host the Ledyard Classic every year right around New Year's time. This year we will play host to UMass Lowell and Army with Colgate being the fourth team, playing them as well. Good luck but not tonight! lol!

Yup, that's the one I was taking about. I think it was last year that I heard UNH will be in next year's lineup for the Ledyard classic.

Agreed, BG looked really good tonight, including your goalie. Good stick work and forechecking, breaking up UNH passes all over the ice, especially in the corners. And, BG capitalized on UNH mistakes to get the 4-0 lead, although I figured that it was game over after second goal to begin second period.

I guess the hosts needed a cupcake or two to munch on at their tourney. UNH "aced" their audition tonight. :(

deltabravo62 and Chuck Murray,

Looking forward to UNH being part of the Ledyard for next year. And Chuck there are no cupcakes or gimmies in D1 hockey, just asked Q this weekend. LOL

eddieshack23 and Snively65,

Last night was just our night after a big road swing being gone for over a month, meaning sleeping in their own beds, routine, etc. Thanks for the nice compliments and I whole-heartedly agree you on our 3rd line; imho they have been the most consistent all year with their trademark of most playing below the dots in the O zone. Here was my post last week:

As you can see if the Big Green had success in those areas they would fare very good, last like night.

From an outsider's point of view, it seemed like everything time Kelleher had the puck either in the neutral zone and especially in the O zone he purposely waited for support to make a play and the your guys just weren't getting open or reading him to get open, which I doubt because you can tell he is a playmaker. Additionally, I thought our gap control all night was pretty good especially holding the blue line and especially when Kelleher had the puck or on the ice.

Re: Dartmouth Hockey 2016-17 Season

Here's hoping everyone had a most wonderful Christmas and Holidays! Now that the break is over, it is time to get back to some hockey. As far as the Big Green goes, hoping that they can build on that impressive 5-1 over UNH at Thompson right before the break and that it carries over into the meat of the season and into Lake Placid again. Admittedly, many improvements need to place place, most notably special teams play...it is double-whammy when you cannot score on your PP while the opponent scores on your PK. Like I stated many times over, 5 on 5 the Big Green has looked good more often that not, controlling more of the play. For the Big Green, many times that is the difference in the outcome. Soooo my Christmas/Holiday present is a much improved specialty unit!!!!!

Re: Dartmouth Hockey 2016-17 Season

So the Big Green came up short in finals against a very good U Mass Lowell team. They were the best team we played a year living up to the high ranking. I cannot state this enough as special teams play continues to be the Achilles heel for the Big Green as I believe U Mass scored on three PP goals while the Big Green were blanked again on their PP chances. The solution would be either stay out of the box or work on their PK....probably a combination of the two. The third line does it again as they have been the most consistent line all year with Kilistoff and Warpecha and spotting in another forward. Let's now make our run in to Lake Placid again in 2017
