Dartmouth Hockey 2016-17 Season

Re: Dartmouth Hockey 2016-17 Season

Hello WolverineTrumpet!

Looking at your impressive list of arenas visited and Thompson will only add to that stature! You always go hiking if you are up to it but as far as things to eat, try this:
Breakfast Lou's (probably be a line but well worth it for this mainstsay, featuring pancakes with Maple syrup)
Lunch Boloco (slightly higher end Chipotle
Lunch/Dinner Molly's (probably the most popular of all the bar/eateries)
Lunch/Dinner Canoe Club (another popular hangout)
Lunch/Dinner Tuk Tuk Thai
Dinner The Pine in the Hanover Inn (most elegant sit down)

Better yet, these restaurants are all on Main St (main strip) for Hanover.

Good Luck!

The Big Green plays Harvard to 3-3 tie with Harvard winning the Shootout as agreed upon by the coaches. I do not know if this games answer much due to all the penalties being called that certainly disrupted the flow of the game, unless you wanted to work on your PP, PK, or 4 on 4 due PP's being nullified. Coaches played all their upperclassmen with the most ice times: D Yau/Shoup, Hartley/Rymsha, and Toor/Roth with a floating 7th D-man F Crema/Hesler/Kalk, Jasiek/Ernsting/Opperman, Neiley/Kilistoff/Warpecha
and the remainders of the forwards each getting some ice time. As stated previously, it would be foolish to draw any conclusions other than the Big Green tied a very good Harvard team, minus Vesey

Re: Dartmouth Hockey 2016-17 Season

I thought Harvard outplayed and controlled the game early on, but it was much more evenly matched play in the latter half or so. Dartmouth certainly did a great job of capitalizing on the (deserved) major penalty to turn the game around. The Crimson has lost more than Jimmy V, but has some solid additions as well for this year, particularly on D. It was nice to visit to my home town and see the scrimmage, and I look forward to at least two more Harvard-Dartmouth matchups this season.

Now go beat Michigan!

So the regular season finally starts tonight the Wolverines parade into town. They are coming off a loss to Vermont last night! Will they be the tired bunch or come out with a renewed vengeance? They lose ton of points, Connor (Winnipeg Jets), Motte (Chicago Blackhawks), and Compher (Avs farm team) from last year's potent offensive team. The Big Green is coming a tie/loss to Harvard last week as they get their bearings. We just hope they build on those positive experiences moving forward.

Re: Dartmouth Hockey 2016-17 Season

Way to go Big Green! The better team 5 on 5 won last night with more offensive pressure and zone time despite a disallowed goal late in the game prior to Crema's last minute heroics. UM may be more individually talented as shown by Kile's PP goal but the Big Green hung together as a group and persevered. The line of Kilistoff/Neiley/Warpecha looked very good for a 3rd line...exactly what a 3rd line should do, forecheck, hit, and frustrate. The D looked good overall with no major flaws. Buffalo also looked good although rebound control could be a little better.

Re: Dartmouth Hockey 2016-17 Season

Thanks Crimson On The Glass! Can they even put that out even after one game? Either way, we will take it for now, with now being the operative word. BTW Congrats on two big W's in the desert. If nothing else, you guys got some nice weather.

Re: Dartmouth Hockey 2016-17 Season

Well here it is...the start of conference play! The Big Green host Cornell and Colgate this weekend. Just remembered that Cornell looked like a defense-first team with big jolly green giants (red probably the better color to use) on both defense and offense. They were big and lumbersome. Whereas as Colgate was the opposite with good transition through the neutral with smaller players possessing speed and skill. So we'll see how this plays out playing two different style teams. Can the Big Green (coaches on down to the players) adapt from game to game?

Re: Dartmouth Hockey 2016-17 Season

A good result weekend for the Big Green! If only they could have pulled out the a W instead of a tie, that would have capped a great weekend. Couple of thoughts: Buffalo was an absolute stud all weekend as he only let in one all weekend albeit an important shorty for Cornell. Without him, it could have been easily 1 and 1 or worst case 2 losses. He was the MVP for the weekend. The D core played a efficient yet unspectacular game with Yau/Shoup pair getting the most TOI. IMHO the best O line was the Kilistoff/Neiley/Warpecha line as they kept possession down low with great cycling and got a couple of scoring chances, more importantly did not yield much against them. The top line of Hesler/Kalk/Crema has shown flashes but needs to "lead" and show more consistency while the line of Ernsting/Jasiek/Opperman needs to do more. If there was a down note, it was the ineffectiveness of the PP units. It seems as though entry is a problem compounded with losing puck battles deep in O zone to gain possession and set up. This will undoubtedly be huge this year based on the amount of penalties called thus far. This PP/PK can/will win or lose the games for you as 5 on 5 the Big Green has been the better team thus far.

Hey QUAlum2004,

Thanks for the scouting report on the Big Green and it is pretty much spot on. Good luck tonight!

Re: Dartmouth Hockey 2016-17 Season

Well, the Big Green and Buffalo came down to earth. Q was the better team with much more fire-power, players that can make plays than the Big Green and it showed both on even strength and PP/PK. We lost our D zone responsibilities and coverage; Q's offensive talent contributed much to that. Too much pressure for even Buffalo to handle. I thought Warpecha looked good and Strong has shown a knack for scoring in tight thus far.. Two freshmen! Specialty units continue to haunt us; allowing PP goals but more importantly coming up empty on numerous PP including a pivotal full 2 minute 5 on 3 in the third period. Absolute killer in momentum! This was a quote of mines previously.... It seems as though entry is a problem compounded with losing puck battles deep in O zone to gain possession and set up. This will undoubtedly be huge this year based on the amount of penalties called thus far. This PP/PK can/will win or lose the games for you as 5 on 5 the Big Green has been the better team thus far.... and it certainly continued to play out although Q was the better team here.

Re: Dartmouth Hockey 2016-17 Season

I think if you would ask the coaches and players the tie with Princeton would be considered a disappointment. The D was solid again although Princeton should not be mistaken for Q as in the night before. The pair of Yau/Shoop continues to grind out major minutes including key O and D zone draws. D man Han was hurt early and never returned and Hartley received a game for a high hit so the remaining 4 D man played out the rest of the two periods. Buffalo was good but we have been seeing a few dirty goals go in lately due to scrums in front of the net and yes the team D also shares the blame. The best line was the Ernsting/Jasiek/Opperman last night as they showed good spacing and zone time leading to quality chances. Strong continues to put the puck in back of the net; very good for a freshmen. Now the downside, PP as they still have NOT scored on one this year as yet. Entry continues to be the problem...they need more speed through the neutral zone to back up the D sitting at the blue line. Too predictable.

Re: Dartmouth Hockey 2016-17 Season

Quick turnaround as the Big Green travels to Vermont for a Tuesday night tilt. We will see how quickly they can bounce back after two road games just a couple of days before.

Re: Dartmouth Hockey 2016-17 Season

Big Green suffers a tough 5-2 road loss where they gave up 4 goals in the first period; they played like they literally just got off the bus. However they stabilized and was the better team for the rest of the game. It was probably a combination of Big Green playing better and Vermont playing safely with an early 4 goal lead. Buffalo got chased early in 1st and Clark came in relief and did fine. Again no PP goals including another extended time 5 on 3. They have to put this in the rear view mirror and move on.

Re: Dartmouth Hockey 2016-17 Season

The Big Green is off this weekend as they have finals to end the term!

Good luck to all teams!

Re: Dartmouth Hockey 2016-17 Season

After having a 'bye" week due to finals, the Big Green travels to Pittsburgh to take on Robert Morris for games on Sat/Sun with the latter being played at PPG Paints Arena (Penguins rink). Who knows what to expect? They had plenty of practice time (hopefully PP unit) with having a bye week. Remember they played one of their best games thus far in the short season vs UM so hopefully they can duplicate the extra practice time into a good game performance again. Go Big Green!
