Oh, I'll make the argument for Platty as well. It's not just Utica that should be ranked higher, Platty should be as well.

Actually Utica has a better case than Plattsburgh based on strength of schedule. I disagree with the concept of rating a team based on its roster and historical achievements. Sometimes teams are better when the players are younger. Just because X was good when he was a Freshman doesn't guarantee he will be good as a Junior or Senior. Rankings should be based on current performance, not potential.

Now here is a thought, if two weeks ago, Plattsburgh would have beaten Cortland and tied Oswego, they would have still come away with 3 points for the weekend and probably would have been ranked higher. Oswego probably would have been still number one going into the UC/Hobart weekend, and Norwich number two. The Oz loss to Utica would have probably meant a lot more because it would have been their first loss and possibly raised the UC ranking. SO, "It's all Plattsburgh's fault!"

...And, quite plausibly, a better case than the "indisputable" #1 Norwich, looking at that same SOS metric as a basis of comparison.

Doesn't matter much, aside from being a talking point right now. I've seen both the PWR and the KRACH look completely illogical at mid-season, then sort themselves out in a fairly reasonable fashion by the end of the year. I'm going to pay attention to this particular D-3 evaluation for the first time, just to see if it holds any water... Right now, it just doesn't pass the "sniff-test", as far as any team looking miles beyond any other in the top five or so.

Until the NCAA assigns it any credibility, it's all in fun anyway. (And it is fun stuff to discuss, so carry on!)

Nerve is winning games in February and March....something UC NEVER does....They'll end up with their customary 9 losses when it's all said and done. And of course get to watch the NCAA's from their living room. (Note: pull up Schedule/Results from us collegehockeystats for UC for past seasons for verification).

This is a much deeper team than any Utica has ever skated. Heenan rolls four lines every game, all game long, the parts of which are pretty-much interchangeable. While the D has been suspect at times, that group is looking much better of late, and UC is very solid (or better than that) in goal.

The W is looking down as a whole this year, too, which won't hurt Utica's chances of feasting on lesser conference-foes, a la what several of the "traditionally-elite" programs get to look forward to every season.

If Utica stays reasonably healthy, I don't expect a second-half swoon this season... And I won't be surprised at all to see them get a NCAA berth and a comfy seeding, either.

From there on it's a crap-shoot, but this team is for real, IMO.

What I meant to say was that the W as a whole appears down this season, so UC might fare well on a much-weaker-than-usual league schedule, as opposed to running the typically brutal ECAC-W second-half gauntlet.

My apologies for phrasing things so lousily in the first place.

(FWIW, the W is 27-15-4 OOC so far, which is considerably off the pace of recent seasons, but not too shabby in absolute terms.)
