D3 Women's Frozen Four to be held at Wis. Superior

Read all about the decision to award Wis. Superior the first pre-determined site host here on This Week in D-III Women's Hockey:

Nice article. Not surprised that UWS ended up with when they and Norwich were only possibilities and the UWS AD is the chair of the committee. I think it would be better off paired with the women's D1 than the men's D3. The only real benefit of pairing it with the men wod be if both men's and women's team from the same school made it.

I think it also would tie into the whole Division III identity to have both of the championshiups in one location as well.

Now obviously it won't happen every year but I think the likelyhood of having one school or even two having both teams in the FF isn't all that farfetched.

Norwich, Middlebury, Plattsburgh, Amherst, Gustavus Adolphus, Superior, River Falls, Elmira etc. are all more than capable of pulling off this feat pretty much year in and year out.

If you think of the powerhouses in each though...would it?

Granted I don't follow along on the mens side as much as I used to.

Oswego-men have a chance most years--women won't be going anytime soon
Plattsburgh--women have a chance most years--do the men?
Norwich--both are pretty constant powerhouses
Middlebury--could happen I suppose
Elmira---I don't know enough about the men...women haven't been for awhile

Out West
Gustavus--Women go every year, have the men ever made it?
St. Norbert--Men go a lot, women are still a couple years out
UW-S--women have a shot, men are going downhill
Adrian--has potential, but doubtful.

Probably the only two schools that I see as having a realistic shot of having both in the mix are Middlebury/Norwich...would you disagree?

Plattsburgh men and women are consistent powerhouses. Men were one game away form beating Amherst last year and we would have had both Plattsburgh teams in the final four.

Gustavus Adolphus men are consistently near top at top of MIAC in recent years. In 2009 they made it to the national championship game but lost to Neumann. They are primed for another strong run this year.

I think nowadays you can honestly say Plattsburgh, Middlebury, Norwich and Gustavus Adolphus could all put two teams in any given year.

I think the St. Norbert women are a few years off from being in the same category.
