D3 Recruits 11-12

Re: D3 Recruits 11-12

I'm going to disagree with this statement. It's tough to compare classes because not all the teams report the recruits, and most fans don't see these players play.
And just because you have a couple of D1 transfers doesn't automatically put you to the head of the class. Just ask plattsburgh how that experiment worked. Will they be better, who knows, there's going to be a lot of turnover in the EC lockerroom this year and that might not equal success imediately.

...and I'm going to agree with this statement, at least partially. The vast majority of coaches like to keep their freshman class under wraps and that's why you see very little chatter on this thread. I believe NUprof said it best when he declared there is a "news embargo" at Norwich and for the most part that pretty well goes for every team.
I'm not sure one can compare the Platty D 1 experiment to any of the girls that are transferring out of WSU. Two totaly different types of transfers. The Platty transfers wanted out and prob due to lack of playing time at their respective D1 schools. Obviously not the case with a number of the WSU transfers.

From an official NU Press Release - there's more, but we will let somebody official post it -

The 2011 NCAA Division III National Champion Norwich women’s hockey team will welcome four newcomers when the team hits the ice in October to begin preparations to defend its title.

Norwich head women’s hockey coach Mark Bolding announced on Wednesday that Tyne Gove, Kacie Anderson, Vanessa Champagne and Caroline Barth will make up the incoming class of 2015.

Tyne Gove is a forward from Berwick, Ont. and played for the father of NU sophomore defenseman Kayla Lascelle at the Ontario Hockey Academy (OHA). She will be reunited with three former OHA teammates in Haley Gibson, Renee Lortie and Lascelle.

Tyne’s sister, Teal, is a standout junior forward at SUNY Plattsburgh. The two sisters will get a chance to play against each other twice this season, as the Cardinals and NU renewed their home and home series for the 2011-12 season.

You're more than welcome to post such things professor. ;)

I ran out to go play some racquetball before I had a chance to put a link up here.

NORTHFIELD, Vt. – The 2011 NCAA Division III National Champion Norwich women's hockey team will welcome four newcomers when the team hits the ice in October to begin preparations to defend its title.

Norwich head women's hockey coach Mark Bolding announced on Wednesday that Tyne Gove, Kaycie Anderson, Vanessa Champagne and Caroline Barth will make up the incoming class of 2015.

"Tyne is a huge pick-up for us with loads of potential," Bolding said. "She can play center or wing, has an offensive flair, and we expect great things from her right away. She has good size, a powerful stride and excellent hockey sense, and we project her to be a top-rated player in our league very soon."

Tyne's sister, Teal, is a standout junior forward at SUNY Plattsburgh. The two sisters will get a chance to play against each other twice this season, as the Cardinals and NU renewed their home and home series for the 2011-12 season.

Kaycie Anderson is a forward from Maple Plain, Minn. that most recently played for the Minnesota Crunch U19AA club.

"Kaycie is a consistent scorer with good hands, vision and is creative with the puck," Bolding said. "She was a very good Minnesota high school player and was a key member of the Crunch the past two years. We are thrilled to have her here to help as a scoring threat, and she should be an excellent college player."

Anderson marks the first player to come to Norwich from "The State of Hockey."

"It's awesome to have Kaycie on board and perhaps she can lead to a connection to more Minnesota players," Bolding said. "They love their hockey out there, and Kaycie is bringing that love of the game with her to NU."

Vanessa Champagne is a forward/defenseman from St. Nazaire, Que. and most recently played at Stanstead College, which was the same school sophomore defenseman Brittany Sharman came from.

"Vanessa was one of Stanstead's top players last season, logging a lot of minutes for their team," Bolding said. "She can play forward or defense, makes very few mistakes and has a very good hockey IQ. She will bring more depth to our roster and is a very athletic kid. She comes highly recommended from her Stanstead coaches as well and is a great character kid."

Caroline Barth rounds out the class of 2015. She is a goalie from Friedens, Pa., and last played for the Pittsburgh Pens Elite U19AA.

"Caroline is a talented goalie with good size and better potential," Bolding said. "She played a split season with a boys high school team and really benefited from the heavier shots there, and learned to really compete and play tough in her crease. She will be a good addition to our young goalies here, and we think she will push both Jo (Plamondon) and Kelly (Fisk) early which is great for the team."

The Norwich women's team will host its annual Welcome Back Barbecue this Saturday, Aug. 27 in front of Kreitzberg Arena at 2 p.m. The event is free to the public. All are welcome to attend and enjoy hot dogs, hamburgers and dessert while socializing with the defending national champions.

The team will also be presented with their 2011 National Championship rings making Saturday's barbecue a can't miss event!

Re: D3 Recruits 11-12

I do not really see any what I would call "impact" players here that really jump out at me for Norwich.... Being National Champions I would have thought that they would have had their pick of big name recruits from U-19 and such that were D3 bound? Any idea why this was not that way.....I saw their Asst. coach out at a few tournys last season that had some really good D3 bound kids that I see ended up at Elmira and RIT....did Norwich not see them as players they wanted......did they not see them as players at all ....or did they go after them but money wise could not make it work for the kid....I do not think the latter as the men's program seems to always make it work and it seems to have worked in the past for the women's program as well. I just would have thought that they would have had a better recruiting class....not that these kids may not work out just not ones that appears (stats wise) to be those real talented kids that you will need to replace Sophie Leclerc......I think hands down the best player in women's D3 hockey last season.

I'd wait until the girls hit the ice before we can start evaluating who is and isn't an impact player. I've heard great things on Tyne gove who should be able to step in and fill a top 6 forward spot right away.

Trust me Norwich had it's handprints on many of those kids that ended up going to Elmira RIT and Plattsburgh.

Norwich still returns a boatload of talent, but I agree the loss of #9 won't be replaced overnight and Cindy Fortin was always a PT player as well.

NU still returns all 6 of their defense as well as all three members of their best line for the last 20 games of the season.

They'll still be in the hunt.

I'm going to agree with Preze here. Let them get on the ice first. You did lose a couple big names but you return a lot more.
And I can't remember if it was you or not, but last year someone from Norwich was questioning their lack of recruits because Beyond the Dashers didn't have anyone listed. Someone was implying the coaches didn't recruit. Seemed to work out for them okay after all. Give it some time before you question if these kids are big enough names for you.

I'm willing to bet Norwich will be there in the end, again.

Only 2 more months until the rematch.

Re: D3 Recruits 11-12

Madeleine Siggelin is expected to replace fellow Swede, Emma Agen, on the blueline for SNC.
Agen is transferring to the U of Maine.
Confirmed that Agen is back on the active SNC roster.
Big addition to the Lady Knights, as she is one of top defenders in the NCHA.
Siggelin is also on the roster.

The ice is getting set up on the big sheet, where the Lady Knights play, this week at the CCC. They were getting the lines painted today.
Captain practices are well underway.
Official team practices start two weeks from this coming Saturday!!

Re: D3 Recruits 11-12

All western teams officially start Oct. 15 - not sure when the exact date for NESCAC is, but usually later in Oct. or early Nov.

It will be interesting to see rosters, compared to what BTD has for incoming players.
