D3 Preseason Captain's Practice

Re: D3 Preseason Captain's Practice

I believe Utica college has started surface practice for its whole team.I don't know the specifics though on it.

Re: D3 Preseason Captain's Practice

The requirements for a "voluntary" practice as described by norm are pretty much unenforceable. All that it takes is a good paper shredder...

I must agree, nothing more than an "honor system" at best, clearly the result of egotistical bureaucrats attempting to make themselves feel important, BS as good as any I've seen. I really liked the quote from Jim Nelson (Suffolk University) - "The term captain’s practice has also been mentioned as some concern. I answer that by saying if it sounds like a duck, looks like a duck, it is a duck."

This practice (?) extends right down to the High Schol level in most areas, at least in hockey. By the time they get to college, players are familiar with the routine and understand the unwritten rules. Most of them take it seriously, and miraculously, the drills don't change when the coach(s) arrive. Therefore there is some good derived. However, as stated above, it really is a duck! :D

Re: D3 Preseason Captain's Practice

The issue, as I see it, is that this is yet another example of the NCAA dictating something that could best be described as "a sheep in a lion's mane". The regulation does nothing regarding the actual activity, it just creates a bunch of hulabaloo regarding what the activity should be called. It's like outlawing apples but serving up plates of them anyway while calling them oranges. Once again utterly shortsighted and pointless.

If they want to target said activity, do it...otherwise stop wasting everyone's time.

And for the record, I have no problem with said activity in the first place.

Totally out of ignorance, (sometimes a common commodity), I would assume that the coach would have had some interaction with the players when they returned to campus, especially the Captains, and I would guess he would have indicated what his expectations were for these "practices". So while the coaches may not be present at such events, I'm sure their 'spirits' are there.

From "pink fluffy bunnies" to ducks performing surface activity. This is all becoming very clear, how we view our student-athletes these Fall days.

To protect the teams from potential NCAA sanctions, I'll keep their identity secret, but photos of the alleged activity can be seen here and here.  :p ;)

This is so very very true. The "Captains Practices" are run by the "Captains" but the drills that are run are no ones but the coaches who have met with the captains prior to ever being on the ice and telling them what drills to do. This is common practice I am sure throughout all of college hockey no matter what the level. Sure there are the occassional days where we scrimmaged but for the most part these practices closely resembled the ones we had when we would take the ice with a coach.

Re: D3 Preseason Captain's Practice

Supposedly there were 78 sightings of "pink fluffy bunnies with cinnamon buns on top" activities throughout the Northeast and upper Midwest today, some going on as early as 5am, others happening as we speak. Dont tell anyone.

In Oswego this afternoon at "pink fluffy bunnies with cinnamon buns on top". The Rookie squad took it to the vet's, in the 40 min scrimmage. More hussle, better passing, and better team defense.:D Just givin the facts
