D3 Polls - 2017-18

We all realize that the polls are only for entertainment as D3 crowns its champ on ice but I figured I'd start this thread to discuss the humor of or perceived injustice of poll voting throughout the season.

Oct 30 uscho poll:

5 Norwich (1) 0- 1-0 201 1

So, do you think the pollster who voted NU #1 this week forgot to check game results, decided to roll with their last week's submission, or is super extremely confident? :D

I think he missed the game's result. If he's that confident, what does he know that we don't.

It's also just one game. SNC lost their opener 4-2 a couple years ago and finished 2nd in the NCAA that year.

Re: D3 Polls - 2017-18

So NU won two games in against good teams this past weekend, moved up two spots, yet lost their first place vote. The mystery deepens...;)

Re: D3 Polls - 2017-18

Ok, 0-9-2 Trine has 13(!) votes in this week's USCHO poll effectively placing them at #19 in the country.

Re: D3 Polls - 2017-18

Polls are just that, fun,but they do give those who aspire some bulletin board material...Lakers to #4 in both polls,Potsdam and Platty will have their shot at the bullseye this coming weekend......

Re: D3 Polls - 2017-18

Does Chad count the ballots?

I've had the opportunity to ask a few college coaches about the polls, and every one of them told me that they left "their" votes to be cast by an assistant of some sort. (Once, an equipment guy was cited in this regard, no bull.) The coaches knew there was no reason to waste even 10 minutes on it.

These days the polls mean absolutely nothing, yet I do agree that they provide some entertainment... That said, I can't wait for the D-3 KRACH to come out.

The KRACH doesnt mean anything either.

Polls (outside of college football) have never meant anything, so what's your point?

BTW, I see they fixed the "situation."

OK, and to your putative point, what's the reason to publish these polls in any case..? There's no "there" there.

A half-way decent statistical analysis -even the RPI- carries far more logical credence than a throw-away beauty contest, don't ya think?

But, if they "fixed " it, I'd honestly like to hear your take on that. There always seems to be a man be hind the curtain to ignore in D-3. If they agreed on any sort of objective measure, there goes the controversy.
