D3 Game Updates Continued

Re: D3 Game Updates Continued

Amherst 1 Gustavus 0 after 1
Amherst is really flying...Gustavus lucky to only be down 1...Justice keeping Gustavus in the game (per the Gustavus announcers, who are doing the game)
SOG Amherst 6 Gustavus 1

Thanks obserbear. Keep the updates coming.

Re: D3 Game Updates Continued

2-0 Amherst. power play goal. 7:44 left in the second (not the time of the goal). no word on the goal scorer.

Re: D3 Game Updates Continued

2-0 Amherst end of two.

shots amherst 13 GAC 11

Dier on the second Amherst goal. Klegg on the assist. Gustavus put more shots on goal. still not a whole lot of sustained pressure, though.

Amherst 4 Gustavus 0
Hu played a great game in goal

yikes...A good goalie is Gustavus' nightmare. Looks like we get another year of the red headed step child of hockey(the west).

Good luck Amherst/Norwich...I hope the Cadets can pull it out, but have to think Amherst is favored...which is good for Norwich.

Re: D3 Game Updates Continued

WOW. Amherst might be the best women's team I've ever seen. Every one of their skaters was lightning fast and they collapsed onto the puck almost instantly when Gustavus managed to get it into the Amherst zone. Their goalie was unbelievable as well... Nothing but respect for that squad. They looked extremely disciplined and played a pretty much flawless game. I never thought I'd see a team hold Gustavus to 1 SOG in a period. I just can't see them losing tomorrow.

Ya the 1 SOG floored me. WOuld have thought the official scorer would have padded that stat a little .... :D

Re: D3 Game Updates Continued

just got home. only 9 hrs of driving:D both games were a joy to watch. Norwich and Elmira both looked good. about like your best western teams:) However I didn't think Norwich exercised very good puck control in the last few minutes of the game and they seem to have some problems in their defensive zone most of the night, but still pulled it off. Congratulations Norwich ,good luck tomorrow.
Amherst and gustavus was a very fast paced game compared to the first game. The first ten minutes looked about even up. Tide definitely changed after the first GAC penalty when Amherst scored on the PP. After that GAC could never keep up with Amherst. There offensive and defensive attack were relentless, and GAC could do nothing about it. Amherst really looked like a championship team.
Officiating for both games was very good. The refs really let them play physical. Tension and nerves must have been high right from the gitgo. During the national anthem one of the Amherst girls skated to the bench and blew chow all over the bench, gross but kind of funny.
Norwich only ran 4 D tonight and looked like they shortened their bench in the third. If Amherst plays the same tempo and style in the championship , I'm not sure if Norwich will be able to handle it. Can't make it tomorrow but good luck to both teams. Was enjoyable seeing the Eastern teams.

Re: D3 Game Updates Continued

Norwich/Elmira was a much slower game, I thought. Both teams had a few players who loked good, but really not many stood out for either team. Jenna McCall looked really good for Elmira, very quick and a hard worker. Norwich's Fortier made a great move and scored the winning goal, which was quite impressive, but I didn't think anyone really stood out from the team.

GAC and Amherst both came out well, but GAC collapsed after the first goal. They are usually very good on the kill, but they were not great last night. Also, a GAC player put that first goal in....I don't think the shot was even on net. Just an unlucky bounce. They did pick it up for the second, and were much improved in the third, but Hu did a great job in net. I thought Sara Yungner was the best player for Gustavus yesterday. Very impressive.

I thought the reffing was great in the first game and ok in the second. There were a couple questionable calls and non-calls, but for the most part the games were called evenly and fairly.

As for today's match-ups, I see the top bracket winning both. I think Gustavus will come out faster today (I hope!) and put more pressure on net. I predict a 4-2 GAC win with an empty netter. Amherst is just too fast and will surprise Norwich and get a couple early goals. I'll go with a 5-1 game. I would love to see Norwich win it, but I think Amherst is just a better team. Stranger things have happened, though!

Re: D3 Game Updates Continued

no score after 1 in Saint Peter
pretty even shots and play...Elmira will open the 2nd with a minute or so left on a powerplay

Re: D3 Game Updates Continued

Elmira 1 Gustavus 0

I've never seen GAC play with so little energy...does not look like Gustavus I know.
