D3 Game Updates 2009-2010

Re: D3 Game Updates 2009-2010

I have big issues with 4 & 20. I was lucky to see the GAC/UWS game last night and I agree it was very lopsided, but only for a while. UWS did not show up but for 2 periods--yes---but GAC was playing very well. It could have been 3-4 to zip after two periods, but it was not. A tribute to UWS. They really hung in there and worked hard. They got a nice goal on a gift from the refs, but it still evened the game. They were in it until the end.

GAC does not have the style to finish off opponents---never have and probably never will. They had there best player have 9 shots with no goals. They just cannot seem to finnish!!!!

I suggest UWS and GAC will meet in the playoffs of the NCAA. How about that!

I hope so, that way UWS can send them packing again!! GAC's second goal was a typical gustie goal. Throw it at the net, whack at it and hope it goes in.

I will be the first to say that UWS looked like crap thru the first two periods...when i could watch between the computer freezing up. I thought they looked a lot better in the third, had the Gusties back on their heels for a little bit.

The advantage the Gusties have with their gameplan is that it is hard for teams to control their offensive zone...mainly because by the time they get it there, they have to go on a change. They play so aggressively, so hard early on...maybe they tire out by the end and have trouble finishing. We've had the shot on goal discussion before. They throw a lot at the net but get a low percentage in.

I think some teams are figuring out how to beat the GAC strategy. Really you just have to let them do what they do and take your opportunities when you get them. Not getting a powerplay until half way thru the third hurt the 'Jackets...

With 40 seconds left the jackets win the face off and pass it over to a player at center ice who would have had a great shot...and she mishandles the puck...and they end up having to retreat back to defend the empty net. You can't do things like that and win against Gustavus.

As far as scheduling next season goes...I don't even know if it will be up to Laughlin. Depending on how the 11 team NCHA schedule goes...worst case scenario...NCHA teams have 5 nonconference games, MIAC have 5 nonconference...it doesn't always add up to playing who you want.

What are the big issues? Relax just poken some fun at slowj and the UWS coach. I would say it was a tribute to the UWS goalie not the defense or forwards. And what's with the "GAC--never have never will". What are you missing a tooth and I hit a nerve? And please point out to me what while it wasn't lopsided?

Re: D3 Game Updates 2009-2010

Not sure where the official start was to the woes of PSU and their inability to be able to webcast there home games ...maybe on the RIT thread anyway much teeth gnashing about budget cuts etc. Fairly sure I am to blame for starting the debate however I made a point again of listening the other night to the broadcast duo carrying the game on WIRY.COM and man can those two paint a picture. Maybe you don't need to blow the PSU budget on a webcast...just get a commitment from this radio station to carry the women's games.

They seemed pleased to report that WIRY will be carrying the balance of the Cardinals home games this year as there is no conflict with the Men's. Kudo's!

I for one will be tuning in when I can and if I ever visit Platty (I'm hoping were heading there:eek:) I will be sure to support as many of the establishments that I can which in turn support the radio station through advertising revenue.

First, any coaches out there that tell your players "Do not shot or throw it at the net, do not go after it if there is a rebound or shot a lose puck toward the goal"? What if it does not go in on the first shot change lines and let someone else try?
Second, you may have missed minutes 15-19 of the third period, that's the last four of five of the game. UWS was unable to breakout from there own end, what because GAC was tired? And part of the reason UWS got a face off in the GAC end late in the game was because of an icing against GAC.

Re: D3 Game Updates 2009-2010

Pretty testy 4 & 20. It is simple: alot of contol of the play by GAC, very few quality attempts. Very little offense by UWS. You cannot disbute that. GAC does not "close out" the opponent. You can bash Superior all you want, but they were in the game all the way to the end. Is GAC the better team? We'll see. UWS is bigger, stronger, and if the refs do not call anything (like last night) they could prevail if these 2 teams play again-----irrespectibive of who has the puck most of the time.

The NCHA teams beat GAC because of this. Out of the confines of St Peter...Gustavus isn't as good.

420...other teams have plays..etc. All the Gusties do is throw the puck at the net as much as possible assuming that the more they do it...the better odds one will go in.

Saying there were very few quality attempts is only taking away from the outstanding performace Kunzelman had. You can bash GAC all you want "does not close out". By being in the game you mean scoring on an referee blown icing call, I would rather have alot of control in the game all the way than stand around and hope for a lucky bounce. Yes UWS is bigger, stronger and Slower. And from my opininated perspective if the refs had called anything it would have been a GAC power play most of the evening. Hope to see you in March. Play better till then.

See post 805 and aren't most of those loss in St. Peter because they have earned the right to play at home over the entire season?

It's the same team that does the men's and women's games. Ducky Drake travels with the men's team when they are on the road, so most of the women's games that conflict don't get covered. I said most because this past weekend, Ducky's sidekick Rob Knowles did do the women's game with RIT while the men's team was out playing Brockport. I suspect if Plattsburgh's men are on the road for the SUNYAC Championship March 6th, Rob will be here to cover the ECAC West Semis here in Plattsburgh.

Great news! I can remember as a kid listening to hockey, prize fights, football whatever with my Dad. One has to develop an appreciation for these events that are broadcast over the airwaves by painting your own picture. Boom Boom Geoffrion streaking through the nuetral zone...., Orr gets the puck behind his own net.... and my favorite of all time...down goes Frazier, down goes Frazier.

Seasoned crews have the ability to put you in the stands from the comfort of your living room and both Ducky and Rob are blessed with this talent. I look forward to tuning in...

Come NCAA time they will split up too. Two years ago when the Platty men were in the NCAA semifinal Saturday night at 7 p.m., the women were in the championship game at 7 p.m. also. Ducky did the men live and Rob did the women's game, which they aired on the radio right after the men, but both were available on WIRY.com.

The issue with airing the women's games during the first semester is that WIRY simulcasts NY Giants games and many of the women's games are on Sunday. And when they aren't the interfere with the men's games.

Good Lord...how old are you anyway?? And here's a little tip:Try TV...its a great way to watch these events AND hear them at the same time. I thought Alberta was the promised land of cash and opportunity, a veritable Shangri-la where everyone had multiple cars, PVRs, TVs, video games, snow boards, wives...(er, sorry, that's Utah.) Hmm...
