Re: D3 Game Updates 2009-2010

Final from Stafford

Norwich 2
Plattsburgh 7

Third Period goals to Kate Fairfield (2) and Helen Giroux. Plattsburgh outshot Norwich 18-3 in the third, 39-15 for the game.

Definitely not the worst team to hit stafford this year. Norwich has definitely got something going in northern vermont. 15 shots on goal are not evident of how they were moving the puck pretty well throughout the game. by the third period, they were just overworked. But this should build into a nice little rivalry as the years progress. good night of hockey.

Re: D3 Game Updates 2009-2010

Jackets tie it up!!! on the power play I believe

Olson from Martin

Gusties take the lead back on a scramble in front of the goal...looks like they took a bunch of hacks at it, kunzlemann trying to cover it

Re: D3 Game Updates 2009-2010

Gusties hang on to win it 2-1.

If Superior had shown up before the 3rd period they might have had a better chance.

Board says shots were 35-17...but it said that before UWS had their flury at the end. UWS had a few good chances to tie it up with the extra attacker, but couldnt get it in.

Re: D3 Game Updates 2009-2010

Gojackets, you didn't say the video was free! I watched the 3rd period and thought Gustavus clearly was the better team. First of all, I can't believe all the penalties not called. From the drop of the puck there was checking, holding and interference. The first penalty wasn't called until later in the 3rd. If that happened out east there would have been at least l0 penalties.

When Superior was on the PP breaking out, they iced the puck two or three times?? Their passing was sloppy and often times seemed to just pass it hoping someone might be there. Gustavus clearly more aggressive and just seemed to be a much better team. Sorry.

Don't apologize...you should have seen the first 2 periods. Superior didn't really show up until the third..and still weren't all that. I've seen them play alot better, via internet, then they did tonight this year. And if not for a scrum in front of Kunzlemann right after UWS tied it up..it might have gone the other way or a tie ensued.

Penalties against Gustavus?? or Superior. The gusties had no penalties until middle of the third which was ridiculous. I can see how Gustavus gets its wide shot margin. Shots after 2 read on the score board 31-11. WIth about 4 minutes to go in the third it said shots were 35-17...Superior had several shots after that, but the number never changed and they have 2 taken away on the box score.

I love this...Norwich gets creamed by plattsburgh, but they are good just because they showed up and played the game...wait for them to rise in the polls next week!

This goal should have never happened... a clear icing call was blown and it resulted in the goal... Gustavus was by far the better team in the first and second periods... much faster... Superior couldn't keep up... however both goalies made some phenomenal saves... this game could have easily been 4-3... as far as the shots on goal are concerned... Both teams had shots counted that shouldn't have been counted... dump ins that happened to be on net for instance... at least 5 for both teams... realistic sog - 29-11...

I agree, at least RIT outshot Plattsburgh...either way I don't think you can suggest that a loss by more than a goal or two a close game or a good rivalry.

Rough night gojackets...they will not move up in the polls and actually they have been dropping in polls if you look at the last two USCHO Polls. The first two periods of hockey sounded great, and for those that were at the game is this an accurate statement?

This was the third or fourth time I've watched a game on the Gustie's webcast platform. I think they have the absolute best combination of camera work and play by play. I really enjoy it. IMHO the first two periods featured one team (guess which) playing a very flowing, agressive style, versus a team that was just scrapping to get the puck to the other end of the ice and hoping for a break. I thought the final score was not indicative of the way that GAC controlled the puck at both ends. Kudos to Kunzleman for keeping it close.

I was just referring to what coach houle said in the local paper about wanting to play norwich once or twice every year from now on and that creating a kind of rivalry.

Sorry I was referencing the Plattsburgh Norwich game...

Pretty accurate. You could see Norwich getting frustrated toward the end of the second a bit and they were just completely outworked and overmatched in the third. Plattsburgh just wore them down. But it was definitely a game in the first two periods. I said it earlier, having just 15 shots on goal doesn't do Norwich justice for how much offensive zone possession they had in the first two periods. Obviously getting shots on net is part of being a good team, but their system was something Plattsburgh had a hard time figuring out in the first two periods.

I'm assuming you mean the Superior goal??

Here's what Coach Houle said in newspaper interview after the game: When asked how his team played Tuesday, Plattsburgh State coach Kevin Houle chuckled and said, "Geez, which period?"

The Cardinals had to figure out how to play against a Norwich team they had never seen before. But the puck went in all three periods and Plattsburgh State picked up a 7-2 non-conference win at Stafford Ice Arena.

The Cadets played a trap that gave the Cardinals (13-1-1) trouble at times, especially in the second period.

"They played a different style that we haven't played against, and we weren't prepared," Houle said. "Not knowing how they played, in the first period I thought we played pretty well.

"But you could see them[cadets] playing better, kind of shoring things up with their forecheck. And you could see if they kept working at it and didn't get frustrated, they could be in the game. And they were for a while."

I thought the Cards PK sucked last night with 2 goals allowed on 3 PKs, and apparently so did Houle:

Houle said "the Cadets' first goal was just a good play and the Cardinals had a communication breakdown on the second."

They work on the kill twice a week in practice, but their percentage keeps dropping.

"We're probably going to go down to last in the country on the PK after this," Houle said. "Maybe we have to stop working on it."

UWS would have had better than a few good chances if they had been able to not only get it out of their own end for more that a minute of the last five of the game but if they could have just gotten it over the goal line at their own end. Three words discribe UWS last night, slow, lazy, & cheap. The first two result in the third. That was the worst top ten rank team I have ever seen. If it wasn't for the goalies in might have been a 9-3 game. Yes all those GAC shots were mostly good shots the the UWS goalie made good saves on.

I believe UWS is now 2-9-1 against GAC, think the coach will keep room in the non-conference schedule Next season for GAC?
