D3 Bracketology

Re: D3 Bracketology

Does River Falls still have a chance of making it in?

Assuming Norwich beats Manhattanville tomorrow...(the only result that really matters). Bowdoin and Middlebury will both make it in...I'm pretty sure Elmira makes it in win or loss...unless they lose to Utica tonight...which would swing things in River Falls favor.

I'm going to assume that Manhattanville jumps Amherst in the NCAA rankings after Amhert's loss today and Manhattanville's win.

Code:
Manhattanville vs Wisconsin-River Falls
WIN 0.6667 0 0.7586 1
SOS 0.5334 1 0.5241 0
 H2H 0- 0- 0 0 0- 0- 0
OP 0- 0- 0 0 0- 0- 0 0
RNK 2- 6- 0 0 7- 5- 0 1
 PTS 1 2

Looking at the PWR from USCHO and adding in results against Ranked... River Falls wins 2-1 SOS is practically even...So you would think River Falls would win this.

Elmira vs River Falls is closer
Code:
Elmira vs Wisconsin River Falls

WIN 0.8269 1 0.7586 0
SOS 0.5255 1 0.5241 0
H2H 0- 0- 0 0 0- 0- 0 0
COP 0- 0- 0 0 0- 0- 0 0
RNK 6-6-1 0 7-5-0 1

Points 2 1
SOS is pretty much even. I assumed on the results against ranked a win today vs Utica and a loss vs Plattsburgh. River Falls holds a slight edge in Ranked...but I'd assume Elmira wins this one.

If for some reason Amherst stays ahead of Manhattanville, River Falls should win that one too.

Its a pretty close call. I know the NCAA looks at OWP and OOWP as opposed to SOS. I don't know how those would play out, nor do I care to try to figure it out. I think the NCAA puts them in to see if they can get a 2/2 split in the Final Four...of course that would mean St Norbert beats Platty...

Agree the only result hanging in the balance (NCAA-wise) is the Manhattanville@Norwich, as we know Gustavus, St. Norbert, Plattsburgh, Elmira, Norwich, Middlebury and Bowdoin will be in. Would a Norwich loss to the Valiants drop them any, say to the point of playing an away quarter-final? A win by Manhattanville probably bumps River Falls and makes it a 6-2 split, with the Valiants playing at Plattsburgh.
Am I missing something looking through the "light snow mist" here in Middlebury?

No you're not missing anything. I don't think a loss would affect Norwich that much. Because remember other teams are going to lose too.

The way I see it there are two possibilities.

A
St Norbert @ Platts
Bow/midd loser at Norwich
Elmira @ Bow/Midd Winner
River Falls @ Gustavus

B
Same as above but Mville @ Platts

Spot on!
Does mean the game at Kenyon is a big deal, as they are playing for home ice in the next round.

So I was just on the NCAA D3 women's hockey page and noticed this on the home page.

"Cast your vote!"
Will Norwich and RIT face off in the NCAA Championship again? Yes or No..

Does the NCAA not know that RIT isn't D3 anymore?

Or is it worse that 33 people have voted yes.

Re: D3 Bracketology

Both are sad comments on the amount of time spent on DIII in general, and women's in particular.

This year, SNC, Bowdoin and Norwich have both men's and women's teams in the NCAA tourney. Plattsburgh also had a chance to have both.
And yet somehow, the possibility of having both DIII championships at the same location never came up?? Seems like that could boost attendence if you had one or more schools with two teams in it.

Re: D3 Bracketology

Good call:

That's a wrap.

It's so nice when I'm right.

It appears that the NCAA has accepted the fact that they will have to fly in a team in the 1st round...so we shouldn't worry about them screwing a west team, to save money. 5-3 splits are probably going to be fairly common.

I'm sure it came up.

I'm just really tired of all the *****ing and moaning out of the east fans that they have to travel to watch the finals this year. It has to come out west at least once every 4 years. As I've said before, Imagine being Gustavus fans and having had to travel to a random place on the east coast 8 of the last 11 years.

Wessman is probably one of the better arena's-facility wise- in the west. I've been to St Norbert and Gustavus...I like Wessman better. Hunt arena in River Falls is nice as well, but I'm not sure if they have 4 locker rooms.

This wasn't intended as a complaint against travelling to the west, but a complaint about not having the finals at the same place east OR west.
And according to the interview with the women's committee, that subject NEVER CAME UP.

oh, and I've been to Wessman, SNC's CCC and to Point. CCC would be the my choice over Wessman.

Re: D3 Bracketology

CCC would have been my choice too Jerry, but mostly out of my own personal laziness.

I really hope they come around to the idea of combining the men and women. A much better idea than making D3 a time filler in an NHL Arena for bored D1 fans.

...and to get their butts kicked every year too.

Let's just wait to see attendance figures out of the west this year and then we can compare to eastern venues in the past.:)

I don't doubt attendance will be lower...compare it to Gustavus a few years ago. The fact of the matter, when 3 teams have to fly, their fans aren't going to be dedicated to fly with them. Attendance will be better when SNC stuns Plattsburgh and there are 2 western teams in it :)

Kudos for getting it right but it was a pretty easy one to predict.

The only curveball is a potential Norwich/Plattsburgh semifinal game. I don't think anyone really saw that one coming.

better drive for you I imagine ;)

Because it makes more sense than combining the DI and DIII, it will probably never happen. That is really too bad, as I suspect the attendance would be up every time one school has both teams. It might also make getting a bid from the west for the men's side much easier as well.

I know both Norwich and Midd have each hosted men's and women's playoffs the same weekend, so the tournament side isn't terrible.
