D3 18-19 season

Re: D3 18-19 season

1st year team and a GNAC member. Why not?

Had an NEHC coach tell me that they don't need another weak team in the conference. They've just added Suffolk, USM has never been very strong, and NEC is a perennial bottom dweller. There's concern that despite having Norwich, the conference will be seen as one of the weaker ones around if some of these teams can't improve. Not that it's a powerhouse conference now!

Re: D3 18-19 season

3g 5a vs Daniel Webmaster a few years ago.

One of six players tied for an 8 point performance, which was the high watermark until Sarah Bobrowski of Hamline dropped 9 on Concordia (MN) this past February.

At the rate GNAC schools are adding hockey if they don't let Anna Maria in they could end up with the GNAC schools forming their own conference (or it could happen anyway). The men already at 5, women could be 5 if Albertus Magnus starts a program to join their new men's team. St. Joseph's (ME) and Colby-Sawyer both offer hockey as a club in both genders which could lead to varsity.

Re: D3 18-19 season

Yet another example showing my point that Anna Momma Maria and other teams of their ilk would lose to the top U14 teams.

Re: D3 18-19 season

Some notes from this weekend:

Plattsburgh, Norwich and Middlebury all swept this weekend; the Cards home and home against Potsdam, Norwich hosting NEC and Castleton and Midd on the road vs Trinity.
Hamline and GAC split their weekend series with each team winning an OT contest.
River Falls beat Eau Claire 2-1 on Saturday.
Hamilton and Williams split their series at Hamilton.
Adrian swept St. Scholastica on the road.
St. Thomas shut out St. Catherine's on both legs of a home and home.

Elmira had the weekend off.

Some Thanksgiving tourney action this week. Elmira, Adrian and Plattsburgh head to Middlebury as Middlebury hosts this year's edition of the Cardinal/Panther Classic. And joining UMass Boston at the Codfish Bowl will be Manhattanville, Bowdoin and Wesleyan. The Card/Panther repeats last year's participants while Manhattanville and Bowdoin replace Stevenson and Endicott.

Plattsburgh has yet to give up a non-exhibition goal this year. The 13-14 team started with 8 straight shut outs (and 10 of their first 11)....

If they can keep that through this weekend it will be one hell of an accomplishment.

Re: D3 18-19 season

Polls are in for the week:

USCHO
Rnk Team
1 Elmira
2 Plattsburgh
3 Norwich
4 Middlebury
5 Hamline
5 Adrian
7 Wisconsin-River Falls
8 St. Thomas
9 Gustavus Adolphus
10 Wisconsin-Eau Claire

Only movement is that Hamline drops to 4th in the poll with Norwich moving up from that 4 spot to become the new 3.

D3hockey.com

# School
1 Elmira
2 Plattsburgh State
3 Norwich
4 Middlebury
5 Hamline
6 Adrian
7 UW-River Falls
8 Gustavus Adolphus
9 St. Thomas
10 UW-Eau Claire

Hamline is penalized even more for their 1-1 weekend in this poll than the USCHO. They drop two spots from the 3 to the 5. Norwich and Middlebury each move up one to fill in the gap. GAC, Hamline's opponent in the 1-1 weekend, moves up two spots from 10 to 8. St. Thomas (who swept St. Catherine) stays in the 9 spot and Eau Claire drops from 8 to 10 after going 1-1 (beat Superior in OT and lost to River Falls).

Re: D3 18-19 season

Upsets today at the Cardinal/Panther Classic:

Middlebury ties Elmira 1-1 and advances in the shootout. Strawinski and Hendrikson with the goals for their respective teams.
Adrian breaks Plattsburgh's scoreless streak at 307 minutes and holds on to win 1-0. The Bulldogs allowed Plattsburgh just 25 shots. The Cardinals are shut out in NCAA play for the first time since a Feb 7, 2014 loss to Elmira.

Plattsburgh takes on Elmira in the 3rd Place Game at 2 PM ET and Middlbury takes on Adrian at 5 PM ET for the championship.

At the Codfish Bowl, Wesleyan beat UMB 2-1 on a 3rd period unassisted goal by Allie Damren. Manhattanville shutout Bowdoin 4-0. Tianna Lopes and Amanda Sabia with 3 points each. Rose Pijaca made 28 saves in the shutout.
Bowdoin takes on UMB at 1PM ET tomorrow and Wesleyan takes on Manhattanville at 4PM.

Non Tourney:
Morrisville shutout Buff State 1-0.
Nichols beat King's 3-0.
Chatham leads Aurora 2-1 at the start of the 3rd.
Becker leads JWU 1-0 late in the 2nd.

Re: D3 18-19 season

The Platts/Adrian match was a fun game to watch and a good match up for both. I thought Platts had the territorial advantage but simply didn't get the bounces to bury one if not two. That said, hat's off to the Adrian goalie with a shutout. Looking forward to their rematch in March.

As with today's tilt with Elmira, who would have thought the #1 and #2 ranked teams would meet in the consolation game? Will be a great test for both!

Re: D3 18-19 season

Got to watch some amazing work in all the nets yesterday at the Panther/Cardinal. The 4 teams had collectively scored 89 goals in 20 games prior to Saturday and we got to see 2 exciting games with all of 3 total goals.
Thanks to Coach Mandigo and Coach Houle for creating such a great event (Coach Crowley and Coach Skelly for bring their teams; and all the players and parents for the passion they bring) to cap off the Thanksgiving holiday!
Sad to see the Polar Bears end the NESCAC non-conference unbeaten string at 8 with their 4-0 loss to Manhattanville.

Congratulations to Adrian players, Coach Skelly and intrepid fans for coming east and winning this year's Panther/Cardinal.

It will be interesting to see what happens with the polls tomorrow. It seems like number 1 is up for grabs but I believe the top 4 played in Middlebury this weekend. Just not sure what order.

Middlebury a top 4 team?! Ummmm NO! I can't believe that came out of a Platty fan, c'mon man.

Re: D3 18-19 season

I think it will be:

1) Adrian
2) Plattsburgh
3) Elmira
4) Norwich
4) River Falls
6) Hamline
7) Middlebury
8) St Thomas
9) GAC
10) Eau Claire

My initial gut instinct was to move Midd up but they did only tie Elmira and then lost by 3 goals to Adrian. Seems more like a down performance than up.
