D3 18-19 season

Re: D3 18-19 season

The AHCA has announced the Laura Hurd Award finalists and among them is Hamline junior forward Bre Simon, the leading scorer in DIII who did not win her conference POY award.
The archive of LHA finalists on the AHCA website goes back to the 2010-11 season and no other finalist was nominated without having won their conference POY award in that span. If anyone has the finalists prior to 2011, I'm curious to see them to see if there's precedent.

It's happened one or two other times. I can't name them off the top of my heard but I distinctly remember it happening awhile ago and thinking the same thing. Generally the prevailing thought is, well if my player didn't win their conference player of the year award, how can we expect them to win the national player of the year vote. Which also is tricky considering this award has generally gone to a senior rewarding a career, rather than awarding the "best player" from that season.

Re: D3 18-19 season

Is there a link to video for the Friday games?

I don't see any video links on the ncaa site yet but those should be coming later in the week. Generally you can access the live stats and the video for each game from the bracket matchups on the ncaa site. If that's the case, these links should get you to the video:

4pm Eastern Game: https://www.ncaa.com/game/icehockey-women/d3/2019/03/15/plattsburgh-st-adrian

8pm Eastern Game: https://www.ncaa.com/game/icehockey-women/d3/2019/03/15/hamline-st-thomas-mn

I find some comfort in the fact, that, either way it goes this weekend there will be a first-time participant in the Championship game. Call it parity or whatever, it is nice to see.

I’ll add to this by saying I truly believe both of those teams have earned their way into the discussion, and haven’t gotten to where they are in the blink of an eye. Obviously, this is a Hamline team that beat Plattsburgh for third place last place last year, but even St. Thomas has lost by respectable margins in their last three trips to Plattsburgh. Most Plattsburgh fans vividly recall the time the Tommies brought a 26-1-1 Plattsburgh team scoreless into OT only to lose on s long-range floater that probably had no business going in the net. (The Cardinals went on to defeat Norwich 9-2 the next day)

One of my favorite goals of all time. Era made a great choice to fire it on net while there were three skaters screening the goalie's view and to place it right in the top corner is a level of accuracy not seen often from a defensemen at this level.

I’ll go out on a limb and say whoever wins Friday night will be the champ!

The first game will probably end at night -- post 6pm at the earliest

Lol...not in AZ. But in case you’re still confused, because I’m fairly certain it was clear which game I was referring to...I was referring to St Thomas/Hamline.

Hurd '01-'02 went 40-37-77 as a freshman

Well aware. :) I witnessed plenty of those games in person. There is a reason the award is named after her.

Also, not to diminish Laura’s accomplishments but D3 women’s hockey in 2019 is a litttttleeee bit different than 2002.
