D3 18-19 season

Re: D3 18-19 season

Definitely a great group of players to choose from. Whomever gets selected from the WIAC will certainly be a deserving choice as well. A name missing from the discussion is Bre Simon who is currently the overall point leader in the country, but did not not get POY from the conference. She crushes over half of the offensive field in this list. Will be interesting to see who gets the award. Whomever it is I say congrats! And to whomever does not win, I say congrats on being a finalist. You are amazing players!

Have to agree with this sentiment. Simon has 142 points in 3 seasons.

And I really wish you guys would've put up the MIAC Honorable mentions... Sorry, just being a hockey dad. :)

My hypothesis is that given that the conference POYs become the finalists for what is a de facto career award, conference voters lean towards their top seniors to push them forward for the Laura Hurd Award. I certainly raised an eyebrow at two of the selections on this list.

Barring something unexpected, Simon and Conway will be the favorites for the 2020 trophy.

Re: D3 18-19 season

Who do we think will earn the all american awards now that almost all the conference awards have been given? The east is in a disadvantage as they have more teams and conferences. The west only has 3 conference for all Americans to be decided from.... anyone else thinking this?

They have a first and second team for both Eastern and Western regions so there's not going to be does the West get more than the East.

My guesses:

East:

F: Katie Granato - Elmira
F: Courtney Moriarty or Annie Katonka - Plattsburgh
F: Amanda Conway - Norwich
D: Hannah Kiraly - Plattsburgh
D: Meg Lahey - Elmira
G: Kassi Abbott of Plattsburgh or Stephanie Martin of Elmira

There's likely to be a NESCAC player replacing someone above, probably Halloran of Williams.

West:
F - Bre Simon - Hamline
F - Rachel Anderson - CSS
F - Courtney Wittig - UW-Eau Claire or Leah Schwartzman - Hamline
D - Dani Perry - Hamline
D - Holly Turnbull - UW-Eau Claire or Haley Nielsen - UW-River Falls
G - Kenzie Torpy - St. Thomas

In the West, I think that Demi Cooper - St. Thomas, could fill one of the D spots.

I was not saying the west will get more than the east. I was saying, the east is at a disadvantage because it is harder for the players to become an all american because they have a larger pool of players to choose from. The west probably has 1/3 of the players where as the east has 2/3. I'm aware of how the all americans work and are decided. Who do we think will be second team?

Re: D3 18-19 season

St. Scholastica up 3-0 on Lake Forest, middle of the 3rd. All goals even strength despite the Adrian officials being on-brand tonight with 4 penalties for each team, with 5 of the 8 penalties called coming during the 2nd.

I’d argue that one of those thirds or more out east aren’t good and aren’t even in the discussion. They may have some good players...but rarely do you get All-Americans from poor teams. If Scott’s prediction is accurate, and it most likely is, all of them are coming from 3 teams anyway and the one Norwich player is probably the token “not Plattsburgh/Elmira” player.

Williams is up 1-0 after 1 period. Brynn Puppe waited for a loose puck to get back to her and struck it with a beautiful slap shot over the shoulder of the Amherst goalie

Williams and Amherst traded 2nd period goals. 2-1 Williams start of the 3rd. Pretty closely run thing

Re: D3 18-19 season

So far we have the following tickets punched:

NEWHL: Plattsburgh (5-0 win over Cortland)
MIAC: St. Thomas (2-0 win over Hamline)
NEHC: Norwich (6-0 win over Castleton)

Other autobids:

NESCAC:
Williams 3 - Amherst 1
Middlebury 3 - Hamilton 1

Middlebury @ Williams set for 2 PM ET tomorrow.

NCHA:
St. Scholastica @ Adrian also set for 2 PM ET tomorrow.

CHC:
Endicott 4 - UNE 2
Morrisville 3 - Nichols 1 in the middle of the 2nd. Winner plays Endicott at 2 PM ET tomorrow.

In Pool B action:

UCHC:
Elmira 3 - Manhattanville 2
William Smith vs Nazareth (at Elmira) plays at 7 PM ET. Winner takes on Elmira at 3 PM ET tomorrow.

WIAC:
Eau Claire @ River Falls starts at 8:05 PM ET/7:05 PM CT tonight.

Question (not that the answer means much as both teams will likely be in): If UW-River Falls and Elmira remain tied at the end of the games tomorrow, who gets the Pool B bid and who is the first Pool C? Would a loss by either team break the tie or does Middlebury need to beat Williams tomorrow to shift the common opponent numbers?

EDIT: The Nichols goalie just made a spectacular save on an odd-numbers rush and the Bison stampeded the other way down the ice to bring the score to 3-2.

Not sure on that one...my question was...is it safe to assume that if Eau Claire beats River Falls tonight, they're leading 1-0 right now, that both make it in?

Pretty crazy first period has Eau Claire up 4-2 after the first.

5-2 Eau Claire after 2

Right now both are in but Eau Claire might be the team left out if Middlebury upends Williams tomorrow. The current PWR on USCHO doesn't reflect tonight's game yet, so even that scenario may change quickly.

EDIT: USCHO's pairwise just updated, and based on those numbers and using the highest seeds in tomorrow's three autobid games the field is:

MIAC: St. Thomas
NEWHL: Plattsburgh
NEHC: Norwich
NCHA: Adrian (projected)
NESCAC: Williams (projected)
CHC: Endicott (projected)

Non-autobids in order of PWR
Pool B: Elmira
Pool C: Hamline
Pool C: UW-River Falls
Pool C: UW-Eau Claire

The best way for both to make the tournament is if Adrian and Williams win tomorrow. Williams is between the two UW teams in PWR so a loss to them might hurt them enough that they end up below Eau Claire or not affect them and they are still above them. Adrian is higher than both UW teams and Williams so I think a loss to CSS still keeps them in and bumps out Eau Claire for that Pool C slot. If somehow both Middlebury and CSS win tomorrow, we could see both UW teams out if Williams still beats Eau Claire in the PWR.

Yeah I after I posted it I realized I should have said, “assuming Williams wins tomorrow”

Interestingly if Middlebury were to win and St Thomas is #1, which seems likely, it’d probably be better for the NCAA for Eau Claire to get in...otherwise they’d probably end up flying three east teams to MN.
