D1 Transfers for 2014-15

Not on the men's side, there seems to be a disparity on the woman's side in comparison. Example many more NHL prospect on other men's teams compared to Union.

Anyone care to think of the reasoning?
One reason is that the talent pool is deeper on the men's side, so even if a team isn't attracting the top players in a recruiting class, it can still compete. A second is that attracting the very best talent in the men's game is a double-edged sword, because the elite players often turn pro before they exhaust their eligibility.

Spot on - this sums it up in two sentences.

The players going pro does not matter they are still there on the team.

Granted the talent pool is deeper but it is also spread out at different levels where college coaches look. I believe in the woman's game, because of smaller budgets and I'm sure other reasons the coaches do not look deep and wide enough.

Re: D1 Transfers for 2014-15

The players going pro does not matter they are still there on the team.

 If players leave their college team early to go pro, how is it they're still on the team? Example: prior to the 2013-14 season the Gophers men's team lost five players who had a year of college eligibility left to the pros, two of whom had big rookie seasons in the NHL. This obviously "levels the playing field" when such players are replaced by 4th liners or freshmen with no D1 experience - something you don't seen on the women's side.

Re: D1 Transfers for 2014-15

As a Minnesotan, you know very well how Duluthians brains work:
1) Lie to themselves until they believe their own BS.
2) Lie to each other to confirm that BS.
3) Lie to the "outside world", meaning anyone outside of their clan.

I'm sure it took him a little while longer than usual to convince himself that Krause was a "bubble" player. But he did it anyway. And then he can say it with a straight face to those of us outside his clan.

On the Bubble as in these players' commitment to the program was questionable throughout the entire season. Not surprised any of them are (for the most part) voluntarily leaving. More surprised it didn't happen sooner.

Not on the men's side.
My comment was about Women's hockey, which is the subject of the debate.

Men's hockey is a different animal altogether. Depth in numbers and body checking are both great equalizers. Despite the tremendous growth there is still a substantial delta between the top and bottom teams and between the top and bottom lines on each team in the women's game.

Is it true that 2 players are transferring from PC to SCSU- Molly Illikainen and Lexi Slattery?

Sad but true. Great add for St Cloud if both train hard this summer and stay healthy next season.

Illikainen from Grand Rapids and Slattery from Circle Pines (high school at Centennial and Roseville), maybe not too surprising that they are coming back to play closer to home.

Was alluded to in one of the other threads but Jordan Hampton transferred from Northeastern to North Dakota. Northeastern trading one Jordan for another ha.

Without knowing anything about these 2 players, on paper they seem like they will help . I wonder if coach Rud had anything to do with thi?

They are potentially great players for SCSU. My guess is this was in the works pre coach being named.

This is certainly not a positive commentary on the direction of Providence women's hockey. Two of their better players jump ship for another struggling program, but closer to home. Hard to say how much the location played a factor, but on the surface it suggests that the players feel better about where SCSU is heading than Providence. If an Eastern school is going to recruit from MN and surrounding states, they better be sure they can retain the players they recruit. Also may suggest why they had so much trouble recruiting there this past season - news travels fast in this small world.

I'm sure the idea of coming home had a lot to do with their transfers. This is great news for SCWH! I see that Lexi only played in 18 games this past season, I wonder if she was injured, does anyone know ?

Re: D1 Transfers for 2014-15

RE Lexi - Yes had several nagging injuries and maybe some healthy scratches - PC had 9 D on roster 2013-14. In 2012-13 she was a top 6 D and saw a lot of time on PP. She is more of a hybrid attacking D than stay at home defender.
