D1 Final eight

Re: How to Achieve Utter Parity

Re: How to Achieve Utter Parity

3. Controversial calls. Likewise, the referees must make enough questionable calls and noncalls to cast doubt on the legitimacy of each result.
Some of your other wishes MAY come to pass, but I believe #3 is just about a sure thing -- in our eyes if not in reality.

Re: D1 Final eight

It is kind of interesting to look back at the start of this thread and the PWR rankings that dave posted in early January. At that time, UNH was at #3 while UMD sat in 7th, now nearly reversed. And Wisconsin would have been hosting. Their year was a little like Minnesota in 2007.

Re: D1 Final eight

Predictions

Minnesota over Clarskon
BU over Mercyhurst
Bulldogs over Wildcats
Harvard over Cornell

Question Is it possible that Bulldogs and Gophers meet up in the final?

Basically i voted this way because I answered a poll a while back in which I thought that the more things changed, everything would stay the same. So for that to happen, the above needs to happen. Minus the BU over MC anyway. I just see that one happening for some reason.

Are the brackets reseeded after quarterfinals in the event of an upset?

No and no. The Minny-Clarkson winner will face the UMD-UNH winner in one semifinal, and the MC-BU winner vs. the Harvard-Cornell winner in the other.

One historical note that I posted in the Gopher thread: it was 10 years ago that Minnesota lost to UMD in the WCHA championship game, then came back and beat the Bulldogs in the national (then-AWCHA) semifinal on their way to a win in the national championship game. I personally wouldn't mind seeing a repeat of this feat. (Oh, and Wisconsin wasn't in the national tournament that year either. ;) )

I appreciate reading what you scholars have been prognosticating for your final four, however I'm going with my heart and a simple fact.....for the UNH-UMD game, back in 2008, these 2 teams played in the national semi's....those who remember the game, KNOW that the best team that day did not win.... simply put, I believe history will repeat itself at the DECC.....and UNH will win!

I was there and I, too, believe history will repeat itself. That means, of course, that UNH leaves the DECC disappointed (again) and the Bulldogs advance (again) to the Frozen Four. I'll take quality over quantity any day, especially when it wins games.

Re: D1 Final eight

I'd like to see the first Frozen Four field with all 4 conferences represented.

I was there too . . . and as I recall the winning TEAM, the team that was "best" at scoring goals, the team that was "best" defensively, with the "best" goaltending, won the game. The team that played the "best" in those 60 minutes, on that day, won the game.

We'll see who's "best" this year when the game's over and one team moves on . . . and one team packs it up.

That by definition means...fields is 3/4 set as follows

Mercyhurst from CHA
.....which by definition means UNH from HE
Winner of Harvard - Cornell from ECAC
.....which by definition means Minny from WCHA.

The news is that the ECAC is the only conference with a guaranteed entry in the Frozen Four. :) :D :D :D

UMD won that game that day and you never, ever have to appologize for winning. I'll bet, though, you'd rather not play many games the way that game was played -- in your defensive end. A team (their goalie) will win a game like that every now and again but you'll lose more of them than you'll win.

The stars aligned for UMD that day. It would make my day to hear one of you UMD fans agree.:)

Their coach agreed with you -- would you settle for that? But when people say the best team didn't win, goaltenders are part of the team, a huge part, and they can almost singlehandedly reverse a result for better or worse.

Re: D1 Final eight

YES!

Clarkson over Minny
MC over BU
UNH over UMD
Cornell over Harvard

would be my preferred.

I dont see a lot of upsets....

IMHO predict the winners will be Mercyhurst, Minnesota, UMD and Cornell.
