D1 Commitments 2011-2012

Re: D1 Commitments 2011-2012

Missing the Yale commitments and Sacred Heart is not listed even though there has been talk about both schools commitments for 2011...does anyone have an up-to-date list by state?

I'll update Yale later. I stopped listing Sacred Heart because you never knew who committed until they put their roster on their web site at the start of the season, and they were/are basically a DIII program.

Re: D1 Commitments 2011-2012

Robert Morris should have:

Chelsea Burdzy, Pittsburgh Elite u19, Imperial, PA
Maddie Collias, Belle Tire (not sure what town)

That gives PA 2 commitments ;)

Re: D1 Commitments 2011-2012

Yeah, I'm a snob that way. But given that they have been playing more D1 teams of late, I guess I will put them back in. Would be nice if the school treated the team like a D1 program, and not club hockey.

Much as I'd like to see more NJ players, I only see 1 this year. BU commitment. 2nd?

So has or does anyone ever rank the schools on their recruiting class? I know it is common any many sports. Hux do our Behind the Dashers do this?

tough to do without knowing with absolute certainty who is going where until every school has issued a release and the players actually show up on campus, but i'm sure there would be plenty of armchair coaches that would be happy to give it a shot.

A difficult task also without a pretty thorough knowledge of ALL the players. Is there anyone among those armchair coaches who has widespread knowledge of skills for the bulk of listed recruits? I suspect knowing some listed recruits well and others not so well would at least partially explain the differences of opinion when it comes to ranking recruiting classes.

Nope, and I'd bet most of the real coaches don't have a thorough knowledge of ALL the recruits listed here either. Just too many to see!

Though to do when you don't know all the players, but after a quick glance over the listings I'd say the incoming classes of UMD, Cornell, Mercyhurst and BC look pretty solid. Vermont's class is excellent as well. If I had to vote, it would go to UMD.

Disagree. I'm sure the "real coaches" have a book full of notes on pretty much all the recruits on this list, so their view is probably much better and at least more educated than that of most if not all posters on the boards.

My limited understanding is that the staffs' have these players tiered and they probably all know the top tier players and have completed several evaluations on them. There may be some tier 2 or 3 players that are under the radar in some regions just because some programs don't recruit there. As far as rating recruiting classes it is really tough since many of the top programs are likely trying to fill needs not just take the best player available. Some programs will not recruit players that may not fit with team chemistry regardless of on-ice ability. A gain on paper for one team may not be perceived as a loss at others. What would be interesting would be to see how the final "signing list" compares to the original "wish list". Who filled their needs with the players they targeted.

like puckskillz said...for the real elite kids, absolutely. for some of the others, not so much.

so much of the recruiting in women's hockey is tournament based, and when you can only have 7 off campus contacts and evaluations combined on a given player, it actually can put a big wrench in your ability to see teams in some of the further locales that don't travel to as many tournaments when you've already hit the limit on some of the teams that play in every tournament. of course that's also assuming everyone sticks to the rules.

obviously this is even more exacerbated for the programs that have budgetary constraints and/or are more regional in their recruiting.

Re: D1 Commitments 2011-2012

Obviously the voting is dictated by who you are affiliated with...ie your kid, your kid's teammate, your friends kid etc...there is NO way to rate a class without seeing the kids play continuously. Good example: Cornell #2...funny, but seriously tainted for a self serving reason. Congrats to ALL of the girls listed, they have apparently turned the heads of coaches at a high level of women's hockey. The observation that signings are need based is absolutely right, but it does not take away anything from these girls, regardless of which program they have signed with. Maybe some of the girls picked by school opportunities, coaching staff or even location over "best chance to win"...only 4 years left to enjoy at this level for all of them!

For a self serving reason? What is it? I can't wait to hear this. I have no ties to Cornell, or any player or school on this list.

Saulnier and Fulton are, according to many people, two of the top recruits in this class, and Saulnier is arguably the best recruit in this class. Everything is open to debate, but the fact that Cornell has a smaller class than some of the other top classes doesn't necessarily make it weaker.

I'm guessing the only self serving reasons involved here are the ones you have for your loved one's class/school not being ranked higher.

BTW, since you're so quick to criticize, and clearly know better than what I clearly stated was nothing more than my uninformed armchair coach opinion/guess, let's have your list.
