D1 Coaching Changes

Former Vermont Associate Head Coach Jess Koizumi is announced as the newest player advisor of Carla Pentimone's Women's College Hockey Recruiting outfit. Big name signing for Carla as her and her roster of advisors (including former Badger Alyson Baldwin, former Trine HC Tom Hofman and former LVC assistant Ally LaBaff) continue to guide players through the development and recruitment process.

Ashley Salerno returns to UVM as an assistant coach, a position she held in 2016-17. Salerno has also been the head coach of DIII Castleton and the assistant at DIII Middlebury (2014-16, 2018-2023) where she helped lead the Panthers to the 2022 DIII Championship in an undefeated season. Salerno also coaches with Turkey's national team.

I do not believe she will be with UVM this year. Rumor is she will be a full time coach for TIHF.

Danielle Blanchard appears to have been named the new assistant coach at Merrimack per their staff directory.

Blanchard was most recently the Head Coach at DIII UMass-Boston following a short time as an assistant under Mark Bolding at Yale.

Blanchard is a 7-time Division III champion at SUNY Plattsburgh, having won the national title twice as the leading forward and five times as the assistant coach to HC Kevin Houle. To give an idea of how successful she was at Plattsburgh, when you combine her 4 playing seasons and 6 coaching seasons Plattsburgh won a championship 70% of the seasons she was associated with the team.

Blanchard replaces Kate Leary, who moved to BC this offseason.

Former Quinnipiac and PHF goalie Abbie Ives has been announced as the new assistant at Sacred Heart.

Do you think they went from 3 to 4 coaches? It didn’t sound like anyone was leaving but maybe that doesn’t get announced.

I wonder to what extent the PHF salaries and $24k stipend paid by PW last year impacted the supply of assistant coaches.

I saw UMD is also advertising for an assistant coach, presumably a 4th paid coach.

It was announced earlier this summer that Assistant Coach Francesca Giammona was quitting to become a firefighter in NYC.

Very impressive she broke through. The FDNY is notoriously sexist with less than 2% of firefighters being women compared to a 5% - 9% national average (depending on which report one reads).

Even more impressive when you learn she lost her father who was a firefighter in 9/11.

U18 Coach for Canada and BU Coach. BU will start chipping away at Clarkson and Colgate for Canadian players is my prediction.

Coaches are getting the ax left and right for inappropriate behavior according to the school.

UVM Men's head coach just got canned: https://www.wcax.com/2023/07/19/uvm-...text-messages/

"BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) - The head coach for the University of Vermont men’s hockey team is out.

UVM Athletic Director Jeff Schulman announced on Tuesday that he fired Todd Woodcroft.

The decision followed a four-month investigation by the school’s Office of Affirmative Action and Equal Opportunity into text messages allegedly sent by Woodcroft to a UVM student. According to Schulman, the text messages were “inappropriate” and sent “on multiple occasions.”

“I’m not going to get into giving real specific details about the messages. The way we’ve characterized it publicly I hope paints the picture that they were inappropriate, that they didn’t maintain the level of professional boundaries that are expected of employees in their interactions with students. And, obviously, it was sufficiently serious to warrant termination,” Schulman said.

UVM is promoting Assistant Steve Wiedler to serve as interim head coach for the 2023-24 season.

In a statement, Woodcroft’s lawyer, Andrew Miltenberg, said: “We vehemently disagree with the process and the findings of a proceeding that lacked fundamental fairness and due process. We strongly believe the University’s decision was contrary to the facts and the law... We intend to pursue justice for Mr. Woodcroft, who has been an outstanding coach and community advocate for over two decades.”"

Emails were directed to a player on the Women's hockey team, rumor has it. And coach already has a family...

in fairness to the "student" and coach, rumors should not be shared, especially when not accurate. "Inappropriate" has a much stricter definition in the work place than in personal space, especially when in leadership positions. I am not defending the coach by any means, as the Admin clearly feels he stepped over the line multiple times and let him go for it, but using a vague term and sharing partial details, leaves quite a lot up to rumor and speculation. Again unfair to the student, the coach, the men's team and now apparently the women's team.

I apologize. I just thought it was relevant since this is a womens college hockey forum. Since it was a men's coach who was let go, it made it more relevant to this forum. I have the utmost respect for the woman involved. Again, apologies if my post was offensive.
