Cycling 2016

Re: Cycling 2016

Yeah, coming too fast. I missed Omloop last week, but managed to catch the Strade Bianchi today. Nice finish to a really beautiful race.

Re: Cycling 2016

I tried out a Felt AR1, with SRAM etap the other day. Quite the bike, not as stiff as I thought it would be. The Etap was really easy to get used to and use. It was a much lighter bike than a Venge Vias. I'll probably try out a Madone at some point as well. I'm going to be doing a lot of time trials this year, but honestly, it's a lot of money for a bicycle.

Re: Cycling 2016

Picked a good week to take off from work. Watched Milan San Remo Saturday, currently watching the Dwars door Vlaandaren, Friday is E3 Harelbeke, and then Sunday is Gent Wevelgem.

Love those early spring classics, and good to see Belgium carrying on.

Oh, and the Vuelta a Catalunya as well.

Pretty terrific Tour of Flanders this morning.

It was outstanding. My second favorite beat my favorite. Cance needed to give him some rope to hang himself with, but in the end he was too strong. Fun race.

Re: Cycling 2016

For those that like both Cycling and History you may want to check out the Documentary My Italian Secret which tells the story of ordinary Italians who helped save Jews from the Holocaust. Among those profiled is Gino Bartali the 1938 and 1948 Tour De France champion who used to conceal false identity papers for Jewish children and transport them during his training rides and would distract guards at Train station, this is when the North was controlled by the Germans and the South by the Allies by showing up and causing a crowd to gather allowing refugees to change trains unnoticed by guards. Even when it came out later in his life he only casually acknowledged it saying the real heroes were the people killed wounded or imprisoned not himself.

Going on vacation next week so will miss the first week and a half of the Giro. Hopefully it will still be a race when I get back.

I saw it. good movie. Also if you haven't read it, Road to Valor, about Gino Bartoli is a good read.
I'm excited to see so many young guys coming up and making racing so interesting.

Re: Cycling 2016

Created a velogames league in case anyone else has slapped a team together for the Giro. I was happy with some 102 point options but not overly content with anything I could make work for 100.

League Name: USCHO
League Code: 05163949

Re: Cycling 2016

I put a team together that hopefully will be good. I really wanted to have Mikel Landa, but just couldn't work him in without having a crappier team around him. Hopefully, i'll have an overall contender, and a bunch of stage hunters who might get lucky a time or two.

I jammed Landa in due to my usual over-selling of Sky and its marginal gainsmanship, but it came at the expense of Nibali and/or Valverde. So I rolled the dice on some other GC guys like Zakarin, Dumoulin, Chaves, snagged two sprinters though the second isn't exactly elite, and think I spent my domestique points wisely, but there's something about it I still don't really like.

If you're stage hunting...did you grab De Marchi? Good value for, I think, six but I ended up leaving him out.

Yeah, I tried dumping both Valverde or Nibali to try to make Landa fit, but since they were GC, and he was a climber, I had to do so much juggling with the rest of the roster, I ended up with crap . If it were a one to one swap out it would have been easy, either Nibali and Landa, or Valverde and Landa.

I did take DeMarchi, and a bunch of other guys who should be hunting stages, and hopefully one or two of them might get lucky. Valverde says he's stage hunting as well, while also looking to make the podium. Now that its underway, here's my team.

Vincenzo Nibali Astana Pro Team
Alejandro Valverde Movistar Team
Alessandro De Marchi BMC Racing Team
Stefano Pirazzi Bardiani - CSF
Sacha Modolo Lampre - Merida
Marcel Wyss IAM Cycling
Diego Ulissi Lampre - Merida
Bob Jungels Etixx - Quick Step
Sonny Colbrelli Bardiani - CSF
