CWHL expands to Alberta

Re: CWHL expands to Alberta

People don't you think the announcement of some money coming from Alberta is a good sign. I have heard the people out there raising the money are very good sales people.
There is lots of money out there to be found, it is just a matter of creating a brand to sell, consistent in Canada and the US, and then doing a good job selling it.

Look at WPS. They have done it far quicked than the CWHL. So it is for sure possible.

Despite the CWHL and Alberta's attempt to squash it...there WILL be hockey in the west this season and THAT is much better news than Alberta ponying up some dough and forgettting the other players in the league!! Shame on you...and you know who you are!!! But hey...you will fit in well in your new position with the CWHL!!!!!!

As for brand.....the CWHL is too stooped in their own brainfreeze to think outside the NHL Brand!!!!!!! Therein lies the problem...that and the fact that they continue to make promises that they cannot fulfill!! How many thousands are you going to pay the players this season ladies?????? But let me guess....the money IS coming right!!!!

The money is good, but it would have been donated anyway. The sponsors are a different story since there isn't anything to really sell at this point. There's a team without a name who will be playing in multiple arenas across the province who weren't able to draw any of the players who showed interest (beyond the two national team members) because there weren't any guarantees about the team actually going through. It's a tough sell.

There's money but it would be easier for the athletes to get sponsored themselves or (in Alberta's case) hope Winsport keeps getting donations that allow the team to operate with less and less cost.

Re: CWHL expands to Alberta

From the WWHL website....

WWHL Holds its AGM Meeting and Elects Governing Body

The WWHL held its Annual AGM Meeting electing new members to both the Executive and the Governors to replace the two teams that dissolved and are no longer represented in the league. The body elected its Chair, Vice Chair of Marketing and Finance, Vice President of Rules and Regulations and added a Vice President of Strategic Planning. In addition, Player Reps were added to the Executive, and a new Governor was added to manage the new wwhl team. More to come..

What????? No mention of NHL alignment or coaches and players being paid????? I thought this league disbanded according to the CWHL "expansion press release". Something is not right.......Something stinks here........

You know what stinks? The joke these people are making of women's hockey and their attempt at credibilty. The future does not look bright, at least at this point.

Re: CWHL expands to Alberta

I think that these women in the west just want to play!! I assume that there was some crap going on behind the scenes in Alberta. You want stinks...check with your peeps in Alberta!! as for credibility...I hope you mean the CWHL!!

Re: CWHL expands to Alberta

Enjoy Fiver! That Winsport Arena looks like a great place to see a hockey game. Mrs 86 and I are heading to Windsor next weekend to see Toronto take on Montreal in a benefit for cancer called 'Stick It To Cancer'. Cannot wait to get there. The games are being played at Windsor Arena, one of the great old barns of the OHL. Love those old arenas.

Re: CWHL expands to Alberta

Why on earth is the OWHA involved in ANY of this!!! They cant even run their own minor hockey program. If these people are involved in the CWHL, then god help the league and women's hockey in general. The dinos of the OW couldn't organized a two car funeral procession!! Sad, sad, sad!!!

Game 2 goes today.

Maybe they should stop crying...that might help.

I'm sure your wise words and sage advice are considered truly invaluable by the Whitecaps organization.

Maybe the Whitecaps and all involved are completely engrossed with your ever present objectivity  and therefore await your input with unmitigated enthusiasm and anticipation.

But I doubt it. :)
