Culvers Camp Randall Hockey Classic: Michigan vs UW.. Brrrrrrrr!

Re: Culvers Camp Randall Hockey Classic: Michigan vs UW.. Brrrrrrrr!

I mentioned this earlier, but McLeod's primary reason was that there would be no replay capability which is mandatory for all men's league games, not women's.

On a separate note, I don't buy this as a legitimate excuse either, since the NHL seems to have no problem having replay-included, standings-counting games outside in similar venues. With the ton of cash that UW is putting out for this event, the idea that they couldn't have made replay work if it meant Minnesota could come and play (and most likely help a sell-out) is a ludicrous proposition.

I agree and I was gonna post the exact same thing. With technology these days I find it hard that they couldn't figure out some kind of contraption to make it work, but that's just what he said.

Actually, it wouldn't be easy. Impossible? Of course not. Worth the effort? Ehh.

Re: Culvers Camp Randall Hockey Classic: Michigan vs UW.. Brrrrrrrr!

Nobody's paying for two games. The women's game is a tack on and they'll be lucky to have 2000 people there for it.

Obviously, since the game is 35,000 short of a sellout, $25 is too expensive for this game.

Simple Economics

Our Athletic Department messed up and it's a shame because having so many empty seats will reflect poorly on this sports community.
I only paid $10 for my ticket.

Re: Culvers Camp Randall Hockey Classic: Michigan vs UW.. Brrrrrrrr!

Also $24 is fine for a game at the Kohl Center, but not at a place where a majority of seats are gonna have bad sightlines. The athletic department got too greedy with this one. Alvarez has gotten more and more money hungry every year so I'm gonna pin this on him.

The problem is I think Baggott had an article that said this game was profitable with the ticket sales where they were last week. So, even though they fell short of the record, which to all of us is a bummer and a hit to the ego, Alvarez will feel vindicated beuase they made $$$ for the strapped Atheltic Dept. $$$ is the bottom line. I wish they were going to lose money to show Alvarez how he screwed up what could have been an awesome thing.

Re: Culvers Camp Randall Hockey Classic: Michigan vs UW.. Brrrrrrrr!

No doubt if the CRC ends up being a regular thing they will look at what they did right and what they did wrong and change things in the future.
Im sure when they had the game at Lembeau there were lots of things that people were unhappy about too.

If that happened that would only give Barry more reason to short change the hockey program, saying it can't make money. and try harder for the BTHC.

I have no idea why Barry potrays the athletic dept. as being cash trapped when the numbers indicate otherwise. The reality is they have a top 5 athletic department as far as revenue is concerned right behind Texas, Ohio St, Florida, and Michigan? I always roll my eyes when they say the hockey team cannot travel east to save $15,000, yet Barry has asked for a $50,000 raise every year since he's been there. But like you said I think the athletic would rather make more money selling 50,000 at $24.00 a ticket than having a sell-out with 80,000 $12.00 tickets. I'm also really PO'd that the best seats in the house for this game-the upperdeck are gonna be blocked off.

Re: Culvers Camp Randall Hockey Classic: Michigan vs UW.. Brrrrrrrr!

Lots of interesting points why it didn't sell out. I think a factor is over-saturation. These games are no longer a big deal. NHL has taken the concept and run it into the ground.

Playing the game in Lambeau had so many more things going for it. Packer fans wanting to see something cool. Fans that could never dream of making a Packer game seeing the stadium. Badger fans wanting to see Lambeau.

Do you think 80,000 would show up to watch the Badger basketball team play a rival at Camp Randall? Just wondering.

Re: Culvers Camp Randall Hockey Classic: Michigan vs UW.. Brrrrrrrr!

Over 51,000 sold so far.

"Step ya game up!"

Re: Culvers Camp Randall Hockey Classic: Michigan vs UW.. Brrrrrrrr!

I know I asked this before...but tailgating (with alcohol ;)) - an option? I'm guessing all the numbered lots are university owned and no alcohol is allowed?

We've decided not to do the $20 thing inside, so we're either hitting some bars or tailgating (the highly preferred option for our group that has grown to about 30).

I'm also interested in the answer to this. As well as good bar suggestions.

I occasionally do the Lot 60 deal with friends during football season. We always had beer or Bloody Marys, or both, without problems.

Re: Culvers Camp Randall Hockey Classic: Michigan vs UW.. Brrrrrrrr!

I got this e-mail yesterday:

The following is a message from UW Transportation Services.

UW Transportation Services will be providing special event parking in your
lot for the 2010 Camp Randall Hockey Classic starting at 10:30 AM on
Saturday, February 6, 2010.

Permit holders who are going to work during this event may wish to park in an
alternate lot to avoid congestion. Recommended alternate lots are: 5, 8, 9,
25, 26, 27, 32, 35, 58, 61, 82, 92, 129, 130, and 131. Lot locations are
listed on the Transportation website (click the link below and then "Campus
Maps").

If you are attending the Camp Randall Classic you may purchase parking in the
following lots (available on a first come first serve basis):

$15 - Lots 7, 29, 36, 43, 44, 45 E&W, 46, or 91

$10 - Lot 34 (Alcohol Free)

$ 5 - Lots 60 or 76

Please expect increased traffic throughout campus during the event. Further
details and parking implications are available on our website at
www.wisc.edu/trans, view "Events on Campus" under the News section on our
home page.

If you have questions or comments, please email them to us at
customerservice@fpm.wisc.edu.

Thank you,

UW Transportation Services

If lot 34 is listed as alcohol free, it seems to reason that alcohol is allowed at the others.

Re: Culvers Camp Randall Hockey Classic: Michigan vs UW.. Brrrrrrrr!

Thanks a lot guys. Not being a football guy I have never had to figure this out.

So it looks like 44-45 would be a good bet as far as proximity and size?

Yes and $15 isn't really bad. Lot 60 is quite a haul, but there is a shuttle bus system and 83,000 for football season.

As long as the lot isnt designated, "no alchohol"; I dont think anyone will hassle you about tailgating and having a few (dozen) beers.
Should be a great day for it, they are talking a high of 25*. You cant expect much warmer weather than that for Wisconsin in February! :D
Im not even going to mess around with parking. Im just going to ride the Badger bus to and from the game. I dont plan on tailgating anyways, so it makes a lot more sense to ride the bus.

Yes, and for $15 bucks they'll let you park for free.
