COVID-19 The 7th Part: We're Gonna Be Number One Soon!

I actually kinda disagree here. I think Trump is a giant man-baby. I think he is actually affected by people's plights and horrific mass casulty events, he just goes out of his way to avoid seeing/reading about them. (His quote about how his briefing with Fauci was "the worst day of his life" actually approached humanity!) He's also all bluster. He doesn't have the cahones to actually follow through on his threats to disband Congress or force the governors to re-open their states (which is why he backed down).

I think the current setup is so that he can blame governors when they open things back up too early and lots of people die, or he can blame the other governors for the recession for keeping their states closed if we somehow get lucky and lots of people don't die.

The problem, of course, is that once the disaster is readily apparent to anyone with eyes, it's already too late.

The only effect any of this has on him is through the lens of his election prospects, and his ability to make money.

Any of the rest you're seeing is just the con man manipulating his mark to achieve his objective.

So why is Testing and PPE not a core part of Dump's reopening plan?

Yeah, while the man is stupid, I am always amazed that people call him stupid for believing the stuff he tweets. As if any of us thinks the carnival barker actually believes that the dwarf from Toledo is a pygmy captured in the jungles of Borneo or that it's easy to knock over all the milk bottles with one throw. Pence, on the other hand, likely believes most of the spooky religious shyt he puts out there.

Re: COVID-19 The 7th Part: We're Gonna Be Number One Soon!

About dumpy's calls to get people to protest and get "liberated"

First, it's astounding that he's so dumb that after telling people to social distance- because that's what he's being told to say- he then tells people to go out and protest and defy those same restrictions. How stupid can you be?

Second- it's equally astounding that there are people out there who are so desperate that they go out and do that exact thing. Seeing the data 2 weeks post the Wisconsin election, it will be fascinating to see the data in two weeks. If they get sick and some die- it's really, really hard to have any compassion for them- since we all know that's a significant possibility- amplified by the intentional actions that these people are doing. It would be amazing if nothing happens- and for the greater society, it would be some of the best news ever if nothing happens, and we can lift the restrictions. But there is zero data to suggest that we can do that right now, as I am seeing the data- we are just barely to the point that the healthcare industry can deal with what is happening- WITH the distancing.

So going down the path that many get sick and some die in two weeks, there's a 100% chance that none of them will blame the person who goaded them into this mass protest and they will certainly blame the governors- I'm not sure how they will do that, but given we see the orange moron doing that to the WHO and the press right now- lying about their alarm back in December and January- there will be some creativity.

It's almost a no loss situation for dumpy- other than losing a few voters to death.

Re: COVID-19 The 7th Part: We're Gonna Be Number One Soon!

That ship has sailed....

No, it hasn't. WRT prevention of the mass pandemic, sure. But both of those tools can be quite clear for a company to make sure their employees stay safe while being able to work. I know right now that they are top of the list key points for my company to let people back to buildings.

What this restart will tell us are what companies actually take seriously the mantra "our employees are #1" and the ones who say that pretending to care- but use that as a Tom Sawyer moment that it's an honor to work for me and make money for me. Which has been a huge part of the narrative for the past decade since the recession (how many times have you heard the BS line- lucky to have a job?).

Sure he is. He's a college hockey fan, which makes him inherently a smart and good person. :)

I have seen Hovey make subtle distinctions in his arguments and I have seen him argue in good faith. That comment was neither.

I have made lazy, d-ckish posts to be funny in the past and I will do it again, and I was and will be better than that. It is a temptation we don't always avoid, and a quick scold is the appropriate response.
I hate group think. I acknowledge group think occasionally turns out correct. But I still don’t like it.
So, a couple days ago someone suggests a connection between Smithfield’s development as a hotspot and SD’s failure to SIP. Then come the “yep,” “yep,” “yep.” My reaction is “we don’t know that.” It probably has to do with the fact 3000 people stand side by side in a building.

So yeah, when I read about the Worthington plant outbreak, in a state that is sheltering in place, I couldn’t resist. But c’mon, can anyone really claim they’ve never at least thought about chucking a rock at the giant hornets nest hanging above them?

Testing, testing, testing...(Marcia, Marcia Marcia) Seems to be what many think is the only way to get a handle on this thing. Forget the 'anyone can get a test'. Good stuff here in the Atlantic about the pandemic esp. around testing...

https://www.theatlantic.com/ideas/archive/2020/04/were-testing-the-wrong-people/610234/

If this seems to be the 'thing' that is going to help...Fauci: testing is a part of a multi faceted way we are going to get this going...not that testing isn't important, it's not the be all and end all...which I agree with.

So, contrarian just to be contrarian. Got it.

Not a good look.

But you can't get to the rest without testing first. That's the point.

Jason Mendoza. That is amazing.

I’ve been forced to spend a bunch of time in Jax. Truly a chithole

Didn't you watch the clip from Gov Cuomo? It's hard.

He wants all the benefits he gets from the economy being open without any of the work required to do it.

edit: Just remembered this was the clown that on Maher's show in 2008 guaranteed Sarah Palin would be the first woman President

Grew up there moved to NH in '68...tons of relatives still there prob visit once a year. Parts of the city are really great; some, yeah, not so great. Was just at Jax beach last April. Further down the coast is better; St. Auggie, Ponte Vedra (sp). Really nervous for my older relatives there so far they are doing ok but now this. Fingers crossed.
