Re: COVID-19 The 7th Part: We're Gonna Be Number One Soon!

Dietrich Bonhoeffer referred to the millions of German "spiritual corpses" who worshipped in the pews of German churches while all around them the Nazis defiled Christian ideals and practices. For many in America it's the same thing. The jingoism and cheap, phony grace (to borrow a concept from Bonhoeffer) displayed at virtually every sporting event in major college or professional leagues is in my view nothing more than an insult to anyone who put on a uniform for the right reasons (whether or not I agree with their own personal or particular path at arriving at the "right" reasons). Instead of cheering for them at the first media timeout of the second period, let's instead make sure the VA is funded so well I never again need to see Trace Adkins beg me to send money to the Wounded Warrior Project. In an America that actually honored service, an organization like that would never have been formed.

That name is too long too. Need to shorten it. It's a group of people gathered to decide if it's economically worth it to make medical decisions that might result in fatality. I'd go with "death panel".

And for all the privileged Republicans equating temporary inconvenience with systematic oppression right now... I don't know what the world's smallest violin is, but my violin is smaller than that.

Planck length violin.

Vice wonders why unemployment is “only” 16 million, repeatedly calls unemployment offices in every state, is able to get through to someone in two of them. 2 out of 50 (for Obama’s benefit there).

NC finally seeing the sharp increase from last week. Interesting that it came 2-3 weeks after the SIP order.

4909 cases, 313 hospitalized, 104 deaths.

Re: COVID-19 The 7th Part: We're Gonna Be Number One Soon!

It takes a few days to get sick and a few more to get critical and then to die. Wisconsin right now is wondering what is going to happen at the end of April after tens of thousands gathered to vote in person on April 7th.

Funny the Supreme Court thought it was ok to make them do that, but they had a conference call...I mean, I get it...but, that was just a terrible, terrible call given the circumstances. Yep, elections have consequences...don't they.

Not to them.

There was a report on NPR a few weeks ago where they estimated that because China is one of the largest polluters, that just Hubei Province being shut down for four months during the lockdown should result in a 1% decrease in global emissions this year.

The ecological studies that come from this will be fascinating.

One (the only?) positive that can come from this is this right here. If more companies realize that working at home is not taboo and can lead to reducing traffic/pollution. You save your workers some gas money and potentially cut down on operating costs for your buildings as well.
