No wonder The Urine King is unhappy with Fox.

Re: COVID-19 The 7th Part: We're Gonna Be Number One Soon!

John olive skewers the crisis re insurance and unemployment. This nation is just completely set up to do this again and ruin everything.

Health coverage tied to employment is one of the biggest mistakes

In Maine fishing/hiking/outdoor exercise was explicitly listed as a permitted activity so long as people are doing it with people in their own household or keeping a safe distance from others. (Because getting out and being active is important for your mental and physical health). However, I am a member of a search and rescue team that operates in a national park. A rescue of a injured hiker or climber can require a dozen or more people to be in very close proximity for several hours. We are going in under the assumption the patient has Covid-19. The NPS has N95 masks & gloves for us, and the person doing the medical work is going to wear a full gown and not be allowed to do any other task other than tend to the patient. Because of limited PPE and risk to first responders, we are asking people to stay away from challenging trails or doing higher risk activities like rock climbing. (The park is technically closed, but lots of public roads run through it and many trails are accessible from state and town roads and can’t easily be blocked)

I thought that Acadia NP was essentially closed? I am on a SAR team in the Whites, where the USFS has closed the east side of Mt Washington and the AMC and Wildcat have barricaded their parking lots. Our SAR team only has enough N95 masks or patients in litters, none for the 18+ litter carriers. :-(

My guess/hope is that the USFS will close the entire WMNF soon, as the trails are mobbed on weekends by incompetent hikers in sneakers, shirts, and cotton t-shirts from out-of-state who do not realize that there are still 5+ ft snow depths at higher elevations.

As I said:

Being closed doesn’t stop everyone from hiking in Acadia

Re: COVID-19 The 7th Part: We're Gonna Be Number One Soon!

The sanitizer portion is not accurate. The distilleries that are making the sanitizer are donating it to hospitals and such. ;) The demand for their product is obviously a little lower, so they are using the spare resources to do something good.

It's accurate- I called MY local distillery to donate some alcohol to turn into sanitizer. They told me that they are giving customers 4oz bottles. I know my facts.

Re: COVID-19 The 7th Part: We're Gonna Be Number One Soon!

Here’s the reply from another Mensa member

“ This is government over reach and everyone just complied so easily! Keep allowing this and our country will loose our freedom. Elective surgeries are frozen. More people by tens of thousands die from heart attacks strokes flu suicides you name it than corona. In fact more die from guns yet we are all locked up! I will not ever vote for a democratic leader in this state period!”

Love how they pay attention to the science- since there's a lot of evidence that heart attacks are quite a bit down. And then health due to the environment is quite a bit better due to the air quality.

And if people are "locked up"- the people who will get shot are ones who have the guns to use on each other.

On the other board I'm a member of- there's been a big turn in attitude- for all the ones who are complaining like ms maga, there are a ton of people coming down on them for what will happen if we open things back up again. People are actually paying attention to what is actively happening in hospitals in the US- in spite of 3 weeks of isolating. There are people smart enough to extrapolate what would happen w/o the isolation.

I am hoping this type of change is occurring throughout society in general. The short-sighted, soundbite terrorism of the right was perhaps a tolerable luxury during good times -- like buying your screaming toddler the candy just to shut him up -- but during bad times letting Toonces drive is a lethal threat.

Things change. The 75% of the country who are sane and sentient may have finally had enough of the short bus chimpanzees.

Yes, my parents have also been getting some from a distillery.

Meanwhile, S. Korea at last count had a whopping 214 dead.

She’s still going today...

“ Right on! My income has not been affected one bit I’m very blessed I’ve worked from home for most of my adult life . My income flows into my account regardless of what’s going on. But as a business owner and the daughter growing up of a single mother owning a business this is devastating to our small businesses. We have to open why waltz went to May 4 and not nay 1 is beyond me. If he comes back and tries to close us down longer I will not stand for it! I just won’t I do t know what I would do from everything thing to leading thousands to his front door if that doesn’t work then I pack up and go somewhere I can get my real life back the life where I can get my nails done have my pedicure lady get those ingrown toe nails out so o don’t wake up or walk in pain. Go see friends go shopping take my dogs for walks around the lakes. Eat at restaurants go shopping you name it. Oh and get my teeth cleaned as we can’t even go to a dentist. I had to change my appointment. What are people doing if they get an abscess tooth? Also listening to the news this am the suicide hotline has had a 300% increase in calls. The social workers can’t get around to check on foster children how many of them are being abused during this time? How many households are being abused by a spouse? How many people who have not received any money I’m over a month buying groceries ? How many will loose their apartments because it will be impossible to catch up on the rent? How many are having their depression or anxiety being exasperated because of being shut in at home? How many seniors are are so **** lonely they no longer want to live? How many more people will end up homeless ? We have to open back up there is no if and or but. 250,000 a month die in this country without a pandemic. Every life is valuable but only 20,000 have died from covig in the USA so far. The prediction that came out today say 61,000 will die. I predict with zero data to prove it we won’t even hit 40,000. Enough is enough do you want to turn our country into Venezuela? New York May need to keep shut down longer. But let’s use our heads here living a life of isolation and boredom is not a life worth living.”

That's always fun until someone gets hurt. :)

Health coverage tied to employment is one of the biggest mistakes

That goes to FDR and WWII regulations for that mistake. Wage freezes led to employers finding other ways to attract labor via the fringe benefits.

I know how it’s started. It’s not turned out well

well at least this is proof that those who are screaming the loudest about "opening up the country" are also among the dumbest. 2/3rds of what that woman claimed can't happen actually can. They have not shut down police forces or children's protective services. They have not shut down emergency dental care. And her claims that every life is valuable? Where was she when children were being stripped from their parents and put into cages, some of them dying? Where was she 12 months ago when a homeless person was having a difficult time trying to find one decent meal a day? Oh yeah, she was probably at her manicurist. Then she probably went home and complained that all those Koreans and Vietnamese are taking good jobs away from Americans who want to scrape crud off her nasty feet.

...we're only a day after Easter and already my brain is being overwhelmed by more un-Christian thoughts....

Maybe they should have listened to the ship's commanding officer?

An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.
