COVID-19 The 7th Part: We're Gonna Be Number One Soon!

Re: COVID-19 The 7th Part: We're Gonna Be Number One Soon!

Speaking of breweries — I know several microbrews around me are still running. Some are brewing cheep beer that is getting delivered to distilleries to get processed into 190 proof alcohol, which is then turned into hand sanitizer for local hospitals by the UMaine chemical engineering department. They’re also selling beer for contactless pickup or delivery.

For the hand sanitizer to scale up initially a bunch of breweries donated beer they brewed for St Patrick’s day. It went to a bunch of craft distilleries to get distilled down and then on to one of the few distilleries in Portland that can distill it further to 190 proof. Now some of the breweries are brewing cheap beer just for hand sanitizer (the distilleries can’t ferment enough on their own to keep up).

“Manufacturing” is deemed essential so they have no problem staying open.
Yep, some distilleries around here are doing the same, and donating the sanitizer.

While some places here are almost there, they still have the signature/receipt issue. If the mom and pop places are simply taking your card over the phone and not doing any sort of confirmation of identity (through signature, account log in, etc.), they are opening up themselves to some pretty big issues (including taking it in the shorts from their bank/credit card provider when there is a fraud charge).

I hope that is not the case for them.... i can’t say I know what they have done on their end regarding that issue..... but I can say I haven’t signed for any takeout or delivery we have done. It’s actually been less contact than going to the supermarket.

It's also entirely possible that they have reached out to their bank/credit card company specifically regarding this issue, and have worked out some arrangement (i.e. any orders over $x still require a signature, but anything less than $x, no signature required). Again, I live in a pretty rural area, so we are probably just behind the times a bit, but none of the local restaurants here have solved the signature/receipt issue.

And completely agree about the supermarket. The supermarkets in Denver have switched over to "one way" traffic, limiting number of customers, disinfecting carts when they come back in, etc. Where I live...not so much.

Re: COVID-19 The 7th Part: We're Gonna Be Number One Soon!

With Door Dash, I get the order with minimal contact. I then drop it off on the front porch, shooting the customer a quick text to let them know it arrived.

Yet the only workers wearing PPE I've seen are IHOP and Applebee's. McDonald's, Bob Evans, DQ, Jersey Mike's, Arby's, and a couple others aren't wearing masks.

The MN governor allowed landscaping to open up early, and is looking at other businesses, and then will decide. Golf courses COULD open up, with limitations (the popular notion is twosomes at most) because there is enough distance between groups and such. The other thing is leaving lakes/rivers for boaters and fishers alone, because of the distancing in those activities, which ties into the resorts that midwesterners love.

In Maine fishing/hiking/outdoor exercise was explicitly listed as a permitted activity so long as people are doing it with people in their own household or keeping a safe distance from others. (Because getting out and being active is important for your mental and physical health). However, I am a member of a search and rescue team that operates in a national park. A rescue of a injured hiker or climber can require a dozen or more people to be in very close proximity for several hours. We are going in under the assumption the patient has Covid-19. The NPS has N95 masks & gloves for us, and the person doing the medical work is going to wear a full gown and not be allowed to do any other task other than tend to the patient. Because of limited PPE and risk to first responders, we are asking people to stay away from challenging trails or doing higher risk activities like rock climbing. (The park is technically closed, but lots of public roads run through it and many trails are accessible from state and town roads and can’t easily be blocked)

It's called sanitation and PPE you dipsht.

Which reduces the chance of infection, but does not eliminate. How many nurses and doctors do we have infected right now?

who's the dipsht again?

Still you.

Re: COVID-19 The 7th Part: We're Gonna Be Number One Soon!

Exactly. The local breweries and restaurants I have bought from are zero contact right now. You order online, pull up, they put the product in your trunk, that's it. If other businesses can do that, let them operate as such.

So you are saying that the restaurants that are still open as well as the breweries and distilleries that are also open stay open.

Got it.

Not all are open, as some can't come up with a workable take out menu, but many are and are open.

And the local distillery is selling alcohol and including a 4oz bottle of spray sanitizer with your order.

They all have very strict orders on how to be open. Just like the grocery stores do.

The sanitizer portion is not accurate. The distilleries that are making the sanitizer are donating it to hospitals and such. ;) The demand for their product is obviously a little lower, so they are using the spare resources to do something good.

What about the people that prepare the food, pack up your order, work in the brewery? How do they avoid catching the virus. if they do catch the virus, how do they avoid passing it on to you? To their coworkers or someone else?

God, you're simple.

Really no different from the people who have to work stocking shelves etc in the supermarket.

Both of you...though you are more of an arrogant dip****.

Maybe you two should just **** and be done with it...

Exactly. And they're getting infected and getting sick, and dying.

But Rube thinks we should open up more people for that exposure. Thinks its safe. Because of sanitizer and stuff.

Unless the patient is a Trump humper. Then don’t risk your life :D

Re: COVID-19 The 7th Part: We're Gonna Be Number One Soon!

So we shouldn’t eat. Got it.

Comprehension ain't your strong suit is it? Or maybe you just like building straw men.

No, we should keep doing what we're doing, exposing as few people as we possibly can to the virus until we get a firm handle on the infection spread. Then maybe we might be able to start thinking about opening things up.

Re: COVID-19 The 7th Part: We're Gonna Be Number One Soon!

This virus must really be mutating fast. Last month Dump called it the flu. Today it's the plague.

As entertaining as the Rube/rufie slap-fight has been:

Some dude in my hood just posted on Nextdoor that he’s complying with the gov order until May 4, then he doesn’t care what the governor says, he’s going out to restart the economy.

First reply was at least humorous. “Any last words”

What does that even mean? Is he building his own farm and factory?
