How could we forget the senior senator from NEW YORK. Very pleased to see that She and Bill have really stepped up their game from the Chappaqua compound to assist the situation. Happy to report that is only the PUBLIC side of the BIGGER story related to H&B. The might of the Clinton Global Initiative and it's multi-billion endowment is in overdrive because these esteemed individuals are clearly forward thinkers and visionaries. Back in NOVember, after seeing how poorly the US was currently preparing for such an event, the CGI pivoted their esteemed internal research labs away from other projects ** and became laser focused on thwarting the next global pandemic. Seems success in the early stage research miraculously occurred during the CGI related care of an attractive 16 year Wuhan female. In late December she had taken an all expenses paid trip from Wuhan aboard a private 727 jet to a small Caribbean island and then developed flu like symptoms. It was during this time that the attending physician to the teenage female vacationers on the island, Dr Ep something, was able to isolate the novel virus that we now know as Covid-19 and started to research ways to kill the evidence, er, virus. Tragically, as reported by an un-named member of the British Royal family also on the trip, she and the other vacationers did not recover from their plight and succumbed at Bentonville General Hospital before they could tell their covid stories, the connection to the breathing machines, with the TO NY Central Whse shipping labels, made conversation impossible.

The Center for Disease Control and Prevention estimates that 2.4 million to 21 million Americans will require hospitalization during the pandemic, and the experience in Italy has been that about 10 to 25% of hospitalized patients will require ventilation, in some cases for several weeks. I write this with fear and trembling, but another unprecedented crisis with the shortage of ventilators is looming large and we may soon be entering a Triage phase of this horrific pandemic.
Triage proceeds in three steps: application of exclusion criteria, such as irreversible shock; assessment of mortality risk using the Sequential Organ Failure Assessment (SOFA) score to determine priority for initiating ventilation; and repeat assessments over time, such that patients whose condition is NOT improving are removed from the ventilator to make it available for another patient.
It's been happening in Italy for weeks, but there's literally no script for this. Sadly, not only will many perish in horrific pain, but the inevitable repercussion for healthcare workers is moral injury or the trauma of violating your own conscience. Although this violation may be a utilitarian response for the common good, it does little to mitigate the guilt, self-reproach or spiritual crisis activated by healthcare workers who are forced to make the difficult choice to ration ventilators and allow unresponsive patients to die.
Spitting ventilators is simply not a fix because of the drop in pressure necessary to sustain patients’ when their breathing deteriorates from the virus. When the apparatus is removed from those who are ventilator dependent they usually die within minutes.

Quick question for you, 'Watcher … based on your thorough review of such bastions of ace reporting and straight-down-the-middle editorial policy at the New York Times, Washington Post, The Atlantic, CNN and other supposedly exalted MSM outposts … did you find any reference to Diane Feinsten (D-CA) being on the same committee, getting the same info, and doing the same insider trading crap you (rightly) tagged Burr for? Or is this news to you now?
Did you know the answer in advance, TUPD? I didn't. Looked it up just now. South Korea at just over 50 million, Seoul at just under 12 million. Didn't hear how the question was phrased, but assuming the President isn't spending his time poring over the population data from foreign countries, I'm pretty sure this was a useless "gotcha" moment. Kind of like when President Obama couldn't name more than one (1) player on his supposedly favorite MLB team (CWS).
I'd love to see the source of your numbers on total tests administered by country, as of the last 24-48 hours. The CDC states as of noontime today (which I guess reflects close-of-business yesterday?) there were 163,539 total US cases, and 2,860 US deaths, for a 1.7% death ratio. They do not provide the total number of tests administered - or if they do, it's well-hidden. But last I heard, the rate of negative results as a proportion of total tests was in the 80-90% range. By extrapolation, that would mean the US has now tested somewhere in between 800,000 and 1.5 million people. Last data I saw last week, South Korea was around 350,000-400,000. If Trump isn't correct, I'd be surprised. But I've been surprised before, so if you've got the data, I promise to read it.
Of course, the giant asterisk in that whole issue is that China's testing would/should be "more by far" than any other country, except according to them (1) they've already solved their problem, (2) it didn't start there to begin with, (3) they don't give the slightest crap about individual citizens beyond the Politburo, and (4) "Hey, can you pass the delicious bat wing soup, comrade?"

And I'm not partisan, so you pointing to Feinstein does not make me recoil. If she broke the law, then so be it. I understand that there are some facts that make her potentially different than the three republicans (Inofe, Loeffler and Burr) like she missed the meeting, and I thought I read that her husband was already in negotiations to sell the stock so it was a "one-off" and not a dumping, and also the stock actually went up in the post market. But those are facts to be sorted out, and again, I have no skin the game of defending them. You seem to want to play gotcha a lot -- when we point out a flaw in your tribe, you resort to "but the WHO, but China, but Feinstein..." I prefer to call them fairly.
So, I'm sure my questions to you will be part of your next mailbag.
And also answer the more pressing question: I was running to Rush, and came to two conclusions. First, many of my favorite guitar songs are actually driven by Geddy's bass. Red Barchetta. Is his playing superior to Lifeson, even though the bass is generally a stupid instrument.
Second, if you could trade a virus vaccine for developing the electric guitar, would you do it?

I didn't make notes at the time, but a few hours ago the rate was >2%. The hour to hour numbers tend to bounce around, but hopefully this is now the beginning of the anticipated decrease.

Yes, I did know that. As I mentioned in a previous post regarding your idiotic statement that President Trump's NoKo strategy is paying dividends (which it's not), I have family members living in Daejon. So, yeah, out of necessity I kinda know more about ROK than your standard Fox News watching American. And who cares how the question was phrased. He sounded like a dork. Which is funny. Which is all I was pointing out. What I wasn't counting on was the added humor you provided by trying to stick up for such a dumb comment. There is no doubt in my mind that at some point the United States of America will test more than the ROK. But that's due solely to sheer volume.
