And, just for Drew.

But so far, the threat of Omicron is doing little to change people’s minds. Nearly 90 percent of unvaccinated adults said the variant would not spur them to get shots, according to a recent survey from the Kaiser Family Foundation.

And some of the unvaccinated said that Omicron’s wily ability to infect vaccinated people only reaffirmed their decision to not get the shot. Others say the virus’s changing nature has stiffened their resolve not to get it.

And this

https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/politics/75-percent-of-unvaxxed-trump-voters-vow-to-never-get-jab-after-ex-president-s-urging-poll/ar-AAS7P8l

A new poll suggests an overwhelming majority of unvaccinated Americans who voted for former President Donald Trump will never get the COVID-19 jab despite the ex-president's urging.

Trump has recently doubled down on his support for the vaccines, regardless of opposition from a significant portion of his supporters. The former president was booed after revealing that he had received a booster shot at an event with conservative commentator Bill O'Reilly last weekend, while he insisted that the shots were "one of the greatest achievements of mankind" after facing resistance during an interview with anti-vaccine Daily Wire host Candace Owens a short time later.

A poll released this week by The Economist/YouGov suggests that Trump's apparent efforts to change the minds of his unvaccinated followers could be a tall order, given that 75 percent of those who remain unvaccinated and voted for him in 2020 said that they did "not plan on ever getting ANY shots of ANY COVID-19 vaccine." Another 12 percent said that they "might" get a shot in the future, while only 3 percent said they would "definitely" get vaccinated and 10 percent preferred to not answer.

And remember Drew, these are the same people that are also opposed to mask mandates, lockdowns, and other government or business imposed measures aimed at helping to slow or prevent the spread of the Covid virus.

So, what do you do?

Am I missing something or is this an irrational and irresponsible reason for a medical policy change?

"The lines are too long."

"Well then don't check as hard."

The handling of the pandemic in the United States has been a joke since day one. Biden has made it better but it's still a joke.

Having turned the science over to actual doctors and scientists, that part has gotten a lot better, but the politicians and media have performed exactly as in Don't Look Up. Utterly inept and unable to relate to the actuality, they go back and forth like slot hockey players only capable of behaving within their myopic perspectives (polls / donors / ratings / advertisers).

I expect businesses to want to murder people for their profits -- that's what businesses are. But that politicians and media go right along with that tells you everything you need to know about what matters to our institutions. It isn't human life.

Maybe it's never been.

When we saw the movie, I really thought it was about Covid, but it was written before it- it's about global warming.

The mining of the asteroid is exactly like the fake treatments that the right is constantly selling- it doesn't work.

I guess someone envisioned politicians willing to murder their own constituents for money before all of this happened- we should not be all that surprised. The sucky thing is that the economy would largely back to full normal if we all got vaccinated as opposed to what it is now. There would be a lot more pressure to send out as many vaccinations as we can to other countries- including the ones we are tourists with.

Instead we have planes flying sick people all over the country, adding massive amounts of chaos to the travel and the tourist industry. Let alone the continued impact on the healthcare system.

It was rather sobering to consider the earlier post about how much worse Delta has been when 2/3 of the country is vaccinated, and we are still faced with hospitalizations and deaths at a rate near the peak before the vaccine came out. And I feel for the people who don't have the luxury of having alternatives to their lives than what they did prior to the pandemic- assuming they are vaccinated. It would be hard for me to feel bad for unvaccinated people when it's their decision to not get free protection.

It's about Climate Change but only incidentally -- it's really about the failure of the people who occupy institutional positions of trust. That's why it's "don't look up." Don't look at the people occupying those slots because they have been trained to be functionaries of a system that has no inputs from reality. It's a meta-meta-metaverse of people trying to be too clever by half, always spinning, always looking for the edge, and always playing inside baseball, while the real world churns on and crushes human beings under the sheer weight of facts.

Our leadership became detached from reality sometime during its bureaucratization, and now it is only fit to make plans in the ether. And "everyone has a plan until they get punched in the mouth."

You put that rule in place and people will get shot. I mean fuckwits are getting arrested because they can't get a fucking Whopper. (btw that guy was at the Insurrection)

People are already dying. All over the place. The war is on.

Yeah but it is one thing to die cause you aren't vaccinated...it is another to die cause one of the fuckwit unvaxxed opens fire when their 17 year old host asks for their vaxx card.

So? My sympathy ended a while ago. They PLAN on shooting to protect their freedumbs. Game on. But, I guess it’s just a matter of who gets shot. People trying to live by the rules or spreadnecks breaking them.

So, exactly like what The Wire was about.

I guess the "consolation" is we couldn't have done it alone, though. Different countries tried different methods but they all keep getting fucked as the new variants roll out. For a while I thought that if we had just all stayed inside for 30 days at the beginning -- literally don't let anybody out of their house -- then we would have had it all over with in the single initial spike and then literally nothing after. But it would have had to have been global.

I guess the best we could have done was lock our own population inside and ground every flight and every ship. If enough of the main players (US, China, India, Western Europe, Brazil, Indonesia) had done that, in lockstep, then maybe?

But obviously that was never gonna happen in a world where at least half the population in every nation is intellectually and emotionally simian. Gonna need another thousand years or so of, ahem, filtering.
