Imagine how many families are going to have a newly empty chair at the dinner table the week of Christmas. ****, man.

Imagine the infections on Christmas Day. Nobody's going to take away Little Baby Walmart Day from the mouth breathers. There may not be a meemaw or pawpaw left by April Fools Day. At least we won't have to worry about the solvency of social security.

The 25th American to die this morning was the lucky 250,000th.

The world is at 1.3M and has already exceeded the April highs. Worldwide yesterday, 10k died and there were 650k new cases. That's one Washington DC getting sick every 24 hours.

So some updates-

There are now 5 cases on the ship. All from the same party.

And my speculation seems pretty close- the original person was tested 72 hours prior to boarding. And then had symptoms quickly- well within the margin of time of incubation between the test and getting sick. Boarding was Saturday (so testing was Wed?) and the first positive test was Tuesday.
So the procedure should be just like pro sports- quick and immediate before boarding. Otherwise, given the required travel to cruise, you are playing with fire.

edit- now 7. And apparently if you have tested negative, you can fly home tomorrow. hmm... given that masks were not required until someone actually tested positive after showing symptoms, I'm not sure about that.

edit 2- reading through some more of a thread on cruise critic- it's quite safe to say that many of the passengers are selfish and stupid. They protested the fact that the ship required them to wear masks after an outbreak happened- as if they could get away with not wearing one. And the ship is letting people outside at specific times to prevent people from gathering- naturally, the few people outside are gathering w/o masks.

Wow, these people are both dumb and in denial- given they flew in the middle of a major uptick in cases.

So, I have been joking for months we should put the deniers on a ship and let them sail and infect each other. But... my plan included letting the ship stay out there until the infection burned out not bringing them back so they could fly home and seed more of the population. Stupid.

They were old, and going to die anyway, so what's the big deal?

Should probably get the context correct.

We hear a lot about hospitals filling up from covid.

But it’s not the covid patients that are using most of the resources now.
Nearly 90% of patients are there for other reasons.

Capacity used by covid+ patients:
> Hospital beds: 11%
> ICUs: 15%
> Ventilators: 5%

Brilliant plan scaring what, half the population or so all Summer long with "case counts" (Cases that are over 3/4 asymptomatic) and showing 1-3 deaths every day in Minnesota for example, that has about 120 deaths/day on average.

Brilliant plan kicking a respiratory virus down the road into Fall/Winter in the Northern Hemisphere.

Stay #Hysterical #BegToBeLockdDown Virus will still be here.

Radio Free Cafe here, just checking in to see how my pals in the Faculty Lounge are faring ...

... still hysterical, I see (shocking). Thought the likely Biden win might cheer you up? Guess not.

Some folks just enjoy being miserable, I guess. Well, TTFN. Gotta make our Thanksgiving plans.

Jeb2020 thanks for sticking with the data. Keep up the good work.

In raw numbers COVID-19 is gonna kill as many Americans by the end of 2021 as the Spanish Flu did in 1918-1919. I have little doubt about that.

With the explosion of positive cases in the last month and the fact the numbers keep getting worse and worse every week, we are going to see a December and January full of death on the most unprecedented scale imaginable. People are not going to heed warnings to avoid gathering over the holidays. My guess is December and January are going to be the most deadly months yet of the pandemic. I think we might see 100,000 more dead by the end of January.
