If a home test kit says you're positive, you can be certain you're actually positive. The specificity is extremely high for the antigen tests.

Agreed. Unless your doctor recommends a PCR test (they are sometimes necessary for certain treatments), I would not bother with the confirmatory PCR.

Well, the home test had expired and I know that sometimes expired tests give a false positive. I don’t think I’ll need Paxlovid. I called my doctor this morning and have not heard back. Hoping this doesn’t get worse. I’m feeling kind of crappy, more so than this morning.

Got the PCR test, it confirmed it. She gave me Paxlovid, which I started last night. I feel a little better today, not as congested. But I’m still pretty wiped. She also did a flu test, which was negative. Said my lungs sounded clear. My BP was a little high. I think that might’ve been nerves. Didn’t sleep that well last night, not sure why as I’m so tired. But my mouth is so dry. I was up drinking water almost every hour.

Heard on radio that China has massive outbreak going right now?

Unsurprising. The "Zero Covid" policy was stupid once Delta came along, let alone Omicron. Combine that with their generally crummy vaccines in use and a low uptake and you have this.

Hey kids. Definitely feeling better. I think getting on Paxlovid right away really helped. Still tired, but not the heavy fatigue I had earlier in the week. The NP at the CVS minute clinic said if I felt fine with no symptoms five days out from testing positive, I can go out with a mask. My question is - at what point will I not be considered contagious? I usually wear a mask so I don’t mind wearing one but I’m not going to go see my mom until I know I’m not going to infect her.

No less than two consecutive days testing negative with antigen tests. I think the recommendation is ten days after testing negative.

The NP told me not to test. I know people can test positive for a long time. That can’t mean you’re contagious all this time can it? Also, I don’t want to spend $500 on at home tests so I can test every day.

The rapid antigen is your best bet. You can find those for like $2-$5 a piece.

If the antigen tests are positive, you're theoretically still contagious. They don't stay positive terribly long. PCR tests can find fragments of the rna for weeks afterwards. But PCR is more or less useless now with omicron.

I thibk the rule at work is ten days for a mask after negative test.

Guess what I got?? Yeah, that’s right. Rebound COVID. Ugh. Damn Paxlovid apparently. I tested negative three out of the last four days. Went to the Red Sox game, it was hot, I was sweaty. My friend had the A/C jacked up in the car on the way home. I was totally stuffed up when I got home. Tested this morning because I was planning to go to my mom’s. I feel like I have a cold. Needless to say I’m staying home.

i know you can test positive for weeks but I tested negative multiple times. So annoying!

Weighing in- Why the actual F would they not tell folks to err on the side of caution? I totally disagree with the don't test and just go about your business advice. If you test positive then theoretically you have viral load. I cannot understand the cavalier attitude they are trying to foster that ignores we have large portions of the population that are vulnerable. The vulnerable are still dying. We just seem to think this is OK and oh well. Except I love my upper generation and wouldn't get over it if I didn't test, caused their illness and they got horribly ill or died.

Have been reading the latest researches and altho rebound is fairly common there is sig decrease in long covid if it is used. Long Covid scares me way more than the actual illness. That sh1t is nasty

They could be happy precisely because they are unaware of the alternative.

I realize the Krazy Kristians in these rural communities are trying to Hold the Line at 1599. It's the same story 50 miles outside of every city in the blue states, too. Saying broodsows are happy doesn't mean they wouldn't reach for more if they were educated. Indeed it implies that very thing.

The farm folk will never be free until the last billionaire is strangled with the entrails of the last pastor.

Is this in reference to rebound Covid?

My nephews wife has long Covid, in medical field, PhD physical therapy, speciality in geriatric PT, vaxxed, hasn’t worked in over a year. Tired all the time, sleeps every afternoon, 2 young kids to take care of. Terrible thing to face every day after leading a very active life.

Sad. We know someone who is younger than us, has 2 small kids and had to switch jobs because long covid. His work place basically put him in a position to get exposed all the time but when he got it (pre-vax time) they did nothing to support him and tried to claim he wasn't at risk, didn't get it at work, etc. Reprehensible. He moved to a different job but is still following with tertiary care center in a med study because his issues are not fixable
