That’s how I frame this?

im saying we’ve made choices and I don’t agree with a lot of them. We couldn’t give up needless stuff and now kids aren’t in school.

what are you trying to say?

I’m saying that’s how the democrats should be framing this argument when someone says our kids should be in school. “You want kids in schools? Then we shut down bars and restaurants.”

of course, the right answer is to close the bars and do distance learning.

sorry. Wasn’t clear in my OP.

Ha, ok the ? Confused me and I thought you meant I was being obtuse and I was genuinely confused

Sherrod Brown should replace Schumer. Nice to see someone willing to go into a knife fight.

I like Sherrod Brown. I think he's right on almost any issue. And as a Senate leader I think he'd be a big improvement over Shumer. But I wonder if he will survive another election in Ohio. 4 years is a long time in politics, but Ohio is turning redder by the year. trump's margin there was bigger than it was in Texas. And while we have all seen some dubious results in polling, Brown seriously underperformed in his race in 2018. Late polls averaged to show him with an almost 13 point lead and he won by 6. He was the only Democrat to win a statewide election in Ohio I believe, but I wonder if he isn't trending downward in Ohio. The republicans basically let him have the seat in 2018 and focused on other races. And trump wasn't on the ballot. I think had his seat been up this time and the republicans focused on flipping it, they would have had a 50-50 chance I bet.

That would be a massive loss. Not the seat, but Brown.

Six points isn’t a small margin statewide. Especially if the Ds figure out their messaging.

edit: obviously the seat would be a huge loss. I’m just saying Brown would be especially bad to lose

Yeah that is definitely the way to frame it.

Then they should remind everyone which party has been spreading the disease everywhere while the other party was trying to save people AND business.

He’d be a huge loss and I don’t see how there much he can do. He could move left or right, it doesn’t matter when Ohio people want qanon and no healthcare and to have a crappy quality of life. The derp seems pretty strong there

How many major outbreaks have been among Ds and Rs in congress and legislatures. Put that graph up. Even better than red state/blue state.

Yeah. Completely agree.

I wonder if he’d be a good VP pick for Harris in 2024

That’s an interesting point. If a terrorist were spreading a bioweapon, how would we feel about it?

I don’t cross into the territory of wishing someone dead. But when you look at like what it is, terrorism and biological attacks... how should we treat it?

See this is pretty much how I AM looking at this. In February or March, or even late into the spring I could see people wanting to take a wait and see approach, wondering if it was really going to be as bad as many feared. But by now everything that is happening was what was predicted to happen in the fall if we didn't get a handle on this. And people ignored it.

Kep was partially right when he said we're not sociopaths here and we are just blowing off steam. But where I'm concerned only partially. Unlike most of the rest of you apparently (maybe?), I do see this as a war and I do see two sides, one right, and one horribly, murderously wrong.

This is just like my vote. If you take my vote away, what choice do I have left? Vote out the bums who took my right to vote away? Wait, I can't do that, they took away my right to vote. and if they're willing to make my vote meaningless or take it away, they sure as hell won't care if I assemble peaceably seeking a redress of my grievances. Again, that's where the vote thing comes in. When you take that away you leave me with no other effective choice. None.

COVID is getting to the point of no return. The administration has allowed it to be worse than it should have been because why? trump was afraid he'd lose an election? And his MAGAts are willfully accepting his word as the word of a god. There is no arguing with that, and nothing anyone was ever going to say was or is going to make them see the light. Is this any different from Germans who followed Hitler, or Japanese who truly believed their emperor was a god? When that is what you are up against, what choices do we have? Most of us posting here are doing what WE can. We are avoiding crowds, cancelling every family event that doesn't just include the people under our one roof, limiting trips outside the home, and have been wearing masks whenever we venture out of our own yards since April. We voted for people who would put the health and safety of people FIRST and believe in science, experts and facts. But that's all WE have, and if the murderously wrong portion of the country is going to continue behaving selfishly, people will continue to die needlessly. And by the tens of thousands. At what point do we say enough is enough?

Again, terrorists killed 3000 people on 9-11 and we've spent two decades expending American blood and treasure, and have exterminated lives in other countries by the hundreds of thousands because of it. I don't know that I see COVID-19 all that differently. So what ARE we to do?

Yep, too many people in dying hellholes like Circleville, and Chillicothe, and Portsmouth want to sit in their trailers, shoot dope, and complain about socialism and both sides.
