I see stories like this and feel the need to remind everyone that if trump was a foreign leader who was responsible for 1/100th of the American deaths he has been responsible for, we'd be targeting him with a drone strike, or possibly visiting him with a team of Navy Seals who are instructed to eliminate the threat. And believe me, the Seals were not tasked with bringing bin Laden dead OR alive. trump and his administration have literally been responsible for the death of hundreds of thousands of Americans. Voting him out of office falls far short of what we should actually be doing to him. He actually needs to face the harshest justice this country knows how to deliver and should be arrested immediately after he is no longer president.

I'm of the opinion this is one of the major reasons we haven't gotten more help for regular people from the government.
When Covid first hit, and states were shutting down, Congress acted really quickly in passing unemployment relief, sending money to individuals, helping out businesses, etc., and promises of more to come. I mean, Mnuchin was even talking the Canada thing of sending people $2000/month.
And then we started getting reports about how Covid was disproportionately affecting black and brown people. And then, nothing.

It's how the Plutes destroyed the New Deal and Great Society, too. Through the 1970s there was overwhelming middle class support for equality of opportunity as achieved through social welfare programs because recipients were understood to be hardworking Americans. The rich HATED it because it had eroded their RELATIVE dominance from ludicrously dominant in the 1920s to only obscenely dominant in the 1960s. They had to find a way to make people cut their own throats by voting against the very programs that helped them and limited the predations of their class enemies.
So they came up with the conservative magic formula that has worked ever since: "democratic socialism means white people help the n-ggers." And that was enough to fuel the last 40 years' race to Neofeudal hell.
My favorite part of this isn't actually conservative voters literally murdering their own kids to please their overlords. It's that the rich themselves are, in absolute terms, poorer for it, since by effectively destroying the American economy they have made themselves more dominant but over a much poorer local neighborhood, all while the rest of the world has surpassed them.
They were willing to trade additional opportunities to do things as long as it meant the relative gap between themselves and the rest of us would increase. The reductio ad absurdum of the conservative position is their heaven is a world in which they are as poor as Babylonian kings, but they hold everyone else as slaves. Hence why they consider the failed, poor red states to be better, even though they are sh-t holes, because they can lord it that much more over their neighbors.

The problem is that is flat out not true.
US deaths are down by 60-70% since august when you use the real day of death data, not the day of report data favored by covid tracking project etc., and talking head "Experts."
