So even with Florida suppressing data, the deaths in the past continue to rise. Two weeks ago, they were reporting in the single digits, and now they are pushing 50 per day on the same week. Which means that the deaths they are actually reporting is reflecting the increased infection rate. Which is in opposition to the claims that deaths are down. It's interesting that there are two problems with the death reporting- the lag from getting it to dying, and the lag in reporting on the actual day.

We’re now having more cases per day than Wuhan had in total

there won’t be any actions taken to slow this. It’s nuts. We didn’t have to have it this way. We’ll be over 100k cases per day.

I knew trump would ruin things- just didn’t think it could be this bad. It will be a long time before we’re allowed to travel into any other country.

The worse thing is that nobody will want to visit the US. All those tourism dollars disappearing will make some areas unable to ever recover.

Not even visitors to the US. Florida will suffer from loss of domestic tourism and they deserve it. You vote for republicans who lick trumps ass? Well congrats you’ve gotten what you asked for

Just try to remember that slightly less than half of the state did not vote for this.

To the individual I posted to last night... You say I have to be "certifiably nuts" if a 8-9 month lock-down is my answer. Considering I presented an answer to the biggest push back to that idea -- "you'll destroy the economy". Then all that's left to push back on is that people are simply too **** selfish and don't put the needs of the many ahead of the needs of the few or the one. They absolutely can't be prevented from going to the beach, or going to the range to shoot their AR-15s, or ride their 4 wheelers, or attend a Dump rally. Please provide at least three specific/detailed reasons why it's certifiably crazy to do lock-downs for 8-9 months as long as we keep the economy from going completely in the tank economically. And no, the number of ancillary deaths from other causes being so much higher doesn't fly as a reason because the vast majority of those are a result of increased anxiety regarding their financial situations. But, since my plan removes that issue, that likely reduces those extra deaths significantly.

Also, despite as hard as the stock market was hit, I don't think the actual economy ever went how I define as being completely in the tank. Was losing the number of jobs we did very bad? Absolutely. But, it didn't go into the tank completely. Again, any significant economic anxiety is addressed by my plan. I do appreciate you sharing the Tweet which links to the WHO video stating they now believe that there is very little transmission from asymptomatic people. Obviously, if it's true that could really be a game changer. In many ways. I truly hope it is. However, I find it interesting that someone like you who has been raging at the inconsistencies of the various scientists, experts, and research organizations -- especially the WHO -- is now so willing to cite them as a credible source. Funny how they're now credible since they're stating something that helps support "your" narrative. :)

Again, I really wonder where Florida Tourist Dollars are- the industry is so big, and should be powerful, that they should be lobbying the crap out of Florida's leadership for them to do *something*. It's one thing that they do stuff to prevent their own spread, but if nobody wants to visit florida because of the cluster it's become- the cruise ships and theme parks and beaches are all going to suffer for years.

The whole coulda, woulda, shoulda thing- a hard and fast shut down with real federal and state support would have gotten us through this a month ago. But now we are going to extend this out for more than a year.

Actually, another harsh shut down for 6 weeks may calm this back down. But I see no political backbone in the states that are suffering.

It's SO ironic that the sports bubble is in the middle of one of the worst areas in the world.

repeal the most recent tax cuts- who benefit people who all still have a job, and just give that to people to spend money. And I would very much include the Clinton capitol gains tax cuts to that. For the short amount of time that we would have to be shut down, that would easily pay for it. This isn't that hard.

The economy hasn't completely tanked- it's still going along- people still are buying stuff to survive. And forcing companies to figure out how to do some production safely. Lots of segments of the economy are really booming due to people buying stuff from home. Actually- this is going to force brick and mortar stores to really be a presence on the interwebs to not let the Brazilian river to take over.

One thing that will help a LOT is if there's real effort to make fast internet a utility for everyone to need. So much of the workforce can just stay home and support those who can't. And, mind you, working from home IS NOT VACATION. It kind of sucks that there's no real separation of work and life. But I'm willing to do it- as it works.

What WILL kill the economy is if we keep doing what we do.

Then again, I fully encourage the people who think this is fake to find each other, and have massive parties, dumpy rallies, chanting fests, hail your leader with vigor. We've seen what happens each time that happens. The more we get through them, the faster we get over this.

Dam--it, I didn't do my research very well. That WHO clip is from June 9 when they first stated that about asymptomatic spread and then walked it back a day or so later. Sorry all. And to "you know who", nice try... ;)

Tourist dollars are split 50/50 between R and D for the most part. 50% of tourists to FL won't go because COVID is blooming there. 50% of FL tourists will rant and rave if they are prevented from going to Disney/Universal/ect. From a PR perspective it's a coin flip.

When they look at the books, it's just a question of if they want the money now or down the road. Since it's basically the same amount, the ones in charge will take the cash now and figure out how to deal with 2021/2022 later.

Although I disagree with it, I can see why Disney and Co. are perfectly fine with reopening. They are under tremendous financial pressure. Theme parks are the single biggest source of revenue for the Mouse and Disney World is the biggest single chunk of that (Disney licenses the Asian parks. They don't own/operate).

There are people who will be on the fence about travel. I'm contemplating traveling to your neck of the woods to fish Lake St. Clair in the coming weeks actually, but I dunno if I can live "in the bubble" so to speak (bring my own food/Carryout restaurants, just use pay at the pump fuel stops, stay in my hotel room and don't interact with anyone if possible). It's not much, but it's an annual Michigan and Ontario Fishing License, 2-3 nights hotel, and local, non-chain food for that time. That adds up. Places that thrive on tourism have already lost half of their 2020 season. Can they stay afloat if they lose much more this year? The outlook for 2021 doesn't matter if you close shop in 2020...

Easy answer there. They are terrified of the PR beating they will take from Chump and the loss of patronage by the Deplorables, on top of the revenue they've already lost from those of us with functioning brains.

half full = massive losses. And I don't think all of the R's are actually willing to travel into a hot spot like that.

But I think your vision of Disney is way to short term- right now, there are some serious indicators that the wheels are coming off of the NBA and MLS return on ESPN's dollars. If they force the NBA into another, longer, shutdown, Disney-ESPN are going to be in a LOT of trouble- that's where they have massive dollars wrapped up.

While we didn't go up north, like most of the state has, I don't think we are in that much trouble here. It will be interesting to see the numbers in two weeks, but things have been pretty stable for the better part of a month now. Or two. Quite the opposite of Florida. Haven't checked Ohio, recently, but last I saw they were about the same as we are, roughly. And you can get delivery to your door. I have friends who are on Mackinaw and in Petosky- so there is tourism here.

Florida needs to shut down for 6 weeks. Hard. They did a crappy job the first time, and now it's gotten serious. If we need an example that we need to do this right the first time, look at Florida and Texas.

BTW, can't go to Canada, the border is closed to tourists.
